COLUMBIA, S.C. -- COLUMBIA, S.C. - South Carolina Gov. Mark Sanford declared his Argentine mistress his soul mate Tuesday but said he is committed to reconciling with his wife in hopes of saving his family and what is left of his political career.
Sanford, who also admitted meeting his lover more times than he had previously claimed, told The Associated Press in emotional interviews that he "crossed lines" with a handful of other women during 20 years of marriage.
But he said he never went as far as he did with Maria Belen Chapur, the woman at the center of the scandal that has derailed his once-promising political future.

He’s lying. It’s blindingly obvious to me what he’s doing.
He’s doing everything he can to publicly humiliate and enrage his wife. I believe he’s trying to provoke her into filing for divorce. Then, in his mind, he can blame her for divorcing him even though he “was committed to reconciling”. After that he can be with his “soulmate” relatively guilt-free.
I am appalled by all the holier than thou FReepers. Sometimes stuff happens and the heart, regardless of age makes decisions that are not popular with family and friends. The good Governor may have found someone who he can be happy with the rest of his life, then again maybe not, who knows. For all you holier than thou hairy legs out there...ever been to Argentina...make you wish you had gone there before you got married GI..

I liked them but they are all cranked out of the same cookie cutter. I have to admit as a woman basing on looks, that Tanned-Ken Doll look, along with the smooth talk had me hooked but what a downer these two dopes have been. I want the real deal now: Jackie Broyles or Coco The Gorilla. The political system in this country is a royal joke right now. I believe he knows exactly how this in impacting his wife and kids, and that he’s doing it deliberately to provoke his wife into divorcing him.
You make it sound as if Obama orchestrated this affair to destroy Sanford, when Sanford by his own actions, basically gave it to them on a silver platter, without them having to lift a finger.
His wife and kids are on the floor and he’s KICKING THEM.
Well Mr Sanford should have thought of that before heading down Argentina way.
I'm having a lot of trouble with this one. I can't imagine a "spirtual adviser" advising a special trip to NY just to call it quits with the mistress. I would expect the adviser to say "Grow a pair...here's the phone, moron." But, I guess it's a good story to tell the wife. "Honest Hon, I'm gonna have a chaperone when I break up with her." Apparently Jenny Sanford didn't fall for "Farewell 2: Brazilian Soulmate". You know, fool me once and all that.
Sanford — What an idiot. Why doesn’t he just pour some more salt on the wounds he inflicted on his wife and sons, the moron! The only soul he’s talking about is the one between his legs.
I think one of the email leaker suspects was a boyfriend of the woman. Allegedly he saw the emails from Sanford.
It's hard for me to believe he made such a statement with that info on the table.
Stay tuned, I suspect this whole story is going to get a lot weirder before it’s over.
