Obama Warns Dems on 'Protectionist' Tax in Climate Change Bill
FOXNews.com ^ | Tuesday, June 30, 2009 | By Judson Berger

Posted on 06/30/2009 7:27:20 PM PDT by metmom

After a "Buy American" provision in the stimulus bill triggered a tit-for-tat with Canada, President Obama is warning fellow Democrats to think twice about another "protectionist" measure in the House-passed climate change bill.

The climate bill that passed the House last week on a 219-212 vote includes a provision to impose tariffs -- starting in 2020 -- on imports from countries that don't have a system for limiting global warming pollution.

The provision was pushed as a way to keep the U.S. competitive with other countries that haven't imposed rules to reduce carbon emissions and promote clean energy.

Huh ? Perhaps he should have been warning them *before* they rammed it through the house.

Oh well. At least it’s DOA in Senate. It better be.

Does this mean obama was for it before he was against it?

This whole thing is HIS stinkin’ idea.

Now, all of a sudden, it’s NOT a good idea, after the whole EPA climate change cover up thing has been exposed?

Now he can be the hero. NOT!

Obama is a liar.

He forced the EPA to bury a report that showed that CO2 did not correlate into global warming.

Yet he goes around and says that we need to reduce co2 emissions because the CO2 is causing global warming. It is a verifiable LIE.

His credibility on this issue is shot. The hoax is exposed. What we need now is an investigation into those that want to tax Americans for some shoddy science.

Even if you believe in "global warming," with no consequences for China's real pollution, how is the US committing economic suicide alone going to help?

It will destroy our economy.

This is Obama, Pelosi and Waxman’s plan.

It is what they want.

Don't be complacent! It would be a big mistake to assume it's DOA! People need to keep flooding the Senate with phone calls, faxes and emails letting them know your strong opposition. Pour it on everyday until they vote! Toll free capital switchboard numbers are below.

I’m not so sure it is dead in the Senate. The Dems want it, and between now and the next election, may be the only time it can get done. If America, by a miracle, gets fed up with Dems and votes a big change in the house, items like this will be dead. They know this is a once in history opportunity they have. They can squander the opportunity, or they can get it done. I suspect with much arm twisting, it will get done.

The first thing I thought of was that obama found a way to save face.

Maybe he’s beginning to wake up to what the polls are telling and he figured out a way to come out looking like the hero for getting the bill he pushed for to not pass after all.

Instead of just dropping it and having people accuse him of breaking campaign promises, he found a way to bail out.

DOA - Dead On Arrival
Yeah, right, dead in a FILIBUSTER-PROOF SENATE.
Listen, I remember last Thursday. People calling Glenn Beck’s program gleefully exclaiming that it was “DOA” in the House. They had spoken to their critter, and (s)he said that it would surely fail.
Listen, gang, listen. We’re getting taken to the wood-shed again. When you think it’s dead, they know you will not light up the lines to try to stop it.
This time, though, I do not think it matters. No filibuster means simple majority (right?). “They” only need 50. How in HELL can we win on this?

The rest of the folks out there who like to say Fox is biased (ignoring the independent studies that say Fox is, in fact, more fair and balanced than anyone else) will blow this off. The MSM will bury it just like Obama did. Liars, all of them. Tin foil hat on securely.

Paul Krugman’s opinion piece in Tuesdays edition of the Daily News. Krugman wants to label all that voted against president Obama’s Cap and Trade legislation as acts of treason. I guess that means that those that voted against it and all that support them would be considered acts of treason also. This, makes my blood come to a boil. It was recently reported that a report compiled by EPA analyst Alan Carlin was suppressed by the agency because it would have hurt chances of this legislation from passing. Its bad enough that Krugman cites only those that support the theories of global warming and totally ignores the scores of scientists that dispute the issue. It also laughable that the ever pompous Al Gore makes the bogus claim that the science debate is settled. But when you have an agency of the federal government suppress a report and cite the reason that the analyst is not a scientist but an economist and can’t be considered as authoritative. I mean after all don’t economists take collected data and analyze it to reach a informed conclusion as a means to make a recommendation to decision makers. I guess when it comes to science you can’t trust an economist. Oh, I forgot, isn’t Paul Krugman an economist!

If you google “solar minimum” “sunspot” and “Ice Age” you will find a huge number of articles that make a compelling case that we may be entering a new Ice Age. There is always a spike in warming just before an Ice Age begins according to scientists that have studied past cycles by measuring ice cores and other evidence. We may need all the CO2 we can get as well as any other greenhouse gases to minimize the effect of the next Ice Age. The Sun is cooling and we cannot stop that. The Gore crowd is trying (through their ignorance) to go in exactly the wrong direction. They have politicized an issue they really don’t understand. They are only looking at the last few hundred years when they should be looking at the climate history of the last 200,000 years which includes many Ice Ages, each one preceded by a short temporary warming. We Have finished the warming and now are rapidly cooling. Cap and trade not only disadvantages our economy vis a vis the world, but is a monstrous tax increase that will only exacerbate climate damage.

I think the only hope is that it cripples industry in a couple of states with Democrat Senators and that they take a second look; particularly MI and WV.

I don’t hold out a whole lot of hope for this.

The only decent spin to put on this is that it should fuel a conservative comeback in 2010, or that it will be “the shot heard round the world”.

Certainly, no one with any sense is going to buy Obama’s 11th hour rhetoric when they are on the receiving end of this legislation. If he knows how bad the bill is he shouldn’t sign it into law.

He owns it.

FACTS: 1) greenhouse gases are not evil, they are essential to keeping the earth warm enough for humans; 2) the most common greenhouse gas is water vapor; 3) CO2 is not pollution, it is essential for plants and humans; 4) CO2 is only a trace element in the atmosphere at 380 parts per million; 5) humans and their activities account for only 3 to 5% of CO2 emissions each year -— volcanoes contribute more than people; 6) the earth has had cycles of cooling and warming about every 1,500 years due to variations in the sun’s activity and our orbit around the sun; 7) these cycles are beyond human control; 8) about 1,000 years ago, Greenland had vineyards; 9) the earth is cooling now, not warming relative to prior decades; and 10) a major reduction of sun spots in recent years suggests a coming mini ice age.

If more people knew how much damage Cap & Trade will do to our economy, they would be shouting their disapproval. But apparently most voters don’t even know what Cap & Trade is all about.

Here’s how the cap & trade legislation will adversely impact our entire economy and standard of living:

We simply don’t have time to wait until 2010.
I’ve always though that Bush left us in a situation where his successor would have to make every move exactly perfectly to avoid the collapse of our republic. Obviously this has not happened.
