While many on the left are reveling in the downfall of South Carolina Gov. Mark Sanford after he disclosed his affair with a woman in Argentina, there's a sympathetic figure being overlooked that might have the necessary background to fill the void left by the governor should he resign.

On CNBC's June 30 "The Kudlow Report," Wall Street Journal senior economics writer Steve Moore explained his close relationship with the Sanfords and raised a new political possibility.

"This is such a tough thing for me Larry, because as you know Mark Sanford has been a long-time friend of mine," Moore said. "This story truly breaks my heart." Moore suggested that South Carolina First Lady Jenny Sanford run for her husband's seat - as he called her "the brains of the operation."

Yeah, but I’d hate to see SC declare war on Argentina.

Geez, is this how we elect people? Because they have been dumped on? Look at Mary Bono whatever her new last name is? She marries straight up the ladder.

Whenever something like this happens, it just makes me snicker..what exact experience do you need to be governor? People claw and fight for these offices, extolling their credentials, etc...and then when something happens to them, someone with NO experience with anything comes in. Absolutely ridiculous.

SC was the only Atlantic Coast state not to support Obama. I would imagine that the people there, alas, want to pay penance and vote Democrat for governor in 2010. NC has not had a Republican governor since 1988.

Moore wants her to be Governor based on her husband's recommendation???

Yeah, republican ex-wives ALWAYS make good republicans...Heinz-Kerry, Huffington, Bono, Nancy Reagan (hate to throw her in there but not exactly a staunch conservative).

Unless I misread her badly, she’s got four sons who’ve need a mother pretty badly, since their father’s such a jerk. She’d be a fool to run for office. And I don’t think she’s a fool.

Her husband is a triple class double digit fool.

Jenny Sanford, like Silda Spitzer is a woman of great achievement who didn't need the louse she married to become a governor. Sanford was a high-powered investment banker and independently wealthy, and Spitzer was a Harvard lawyer. I don't want her to run, though. I like the hot Indian chick who is running instead.

ANYONE but the not-so-closeted gay Lt. Governor, Andre Bauer. SC already has a closeted gay Senator (Graham). How THAT working out for them. No wonder Linsday is so used to bending over for Democrats.

That’s a great philosophy—elect people based on name recognition. That’s how we got the Bush, Clinton and Kennedy dynasties. Yay!

Jenny Sanford is an heiress who went on to work not for her family’s business, but for a boutique investments firm on Wall Street where she became VP. She could rightly extol her credentials and she has the requisite experience.

When Jackie-O and Hillary were cuckolded they “stood by their man” in a disgusting display of political prostitution. The left conferred sainthood on them. Being a victim and accepting sins is a part of their mentality: Men are beasts and women are saints.

When a real conservative woman is wronged like that she has some self respect, dignity, and honor. She threw the bum out.

Is there any clearer illustration of the differences between us and these disgusting libs?

Barney Frank was running a whore house for “men” out of his sitting room. Charles Rangel owns 4 rent controlled apartments. Harry Reid steals Nevada real estate. But of course a REPUBLICAN must resign. If he does, he’s an even bigger a$$hole than he appears.
