Jesus Fish/Darwin Fish

--snip--

Atheists use their Darwin fish to protest against the Christian faith. That they use evolution to counter biblical faith shows how foundational the issue of origins is to the gospel, and that church leaders who dismiss it as a ‘side issue’ have their heads in the sand...

I laughed the first time I saw a Darwin fish, although I am Christian.

But there isn’t much question what it means. Not just “I’m an atheist/agnostic evolutionist,” but “My belief supplants and mocks your belief.”

I like the fishhook cartoon up above.

I’ve heard evil defined as the absence of good, like a wound is the absence of bodily integrity.

That's a terrible definition. Last week, twenty miles from me, a young man named Mark Becker walked into a high school weight room and shot football coach Ed Thomas dead (see today's Sports Illustrated cover). If Mark merely lacked "good" he could have just sat on the couch and watched TV all day. Evil acts are sometimes affirmative, active things, not merely the absence of something.

Lies, then, are the absence of the Truth, the absolute, objective Truth.

No, because silence is also the absence of the truth (or the Truth). Lying is an affirmative action.

I had a species of salamander that grew legs again and could reattach a leg. And, yes, I’ve taken collegiate biology classes.

The quote I posted was from the article. The point I was making is that definitive missing links have not been proved, despite the presumption of scientists that evolution is a presupposition. It’s not, and denying the antecedent is impossible.

It’s a recognition that man, left to his own devices, will act in an evil manner, due to his fallen, sinful nature.

That’s the correct vision of the nature of man.

In contrast, the source of all ideological error is the assumption that man is “basically good”.

Reminds me of the Grat Carfish Wars

circa 1999; Boston - Innocent Jesus fish start to appear on cars. This is followed by the Darwin fish complete with cute little legs. Not to be outdone, the Jesus fish owners get TRUTH fish that are eating the Darwin Fish. Finally, there is the really committed evolutionist car owner who gets the dinosaur eating the TRUTH fish.

Ah, the good old days...

I’ve never seen the “Darwin fish” described as a protest symbol before. I’ve even seen cars with both the Christian fish and the Darwin fish.

If believers in Darwinism claim it is not a religion why do they have religious symbols?

It's not a protest, it's a joke. The people who respond with a larger Jesus fish eating the Darwin fish are taking it in the right spirit. The self-serious author of this article unfortunately lets his persecution complex get in the way of his sense of humor.

I have never seen where some has made the effort to purchase and install on their car a Darwin hate symbol attacking the Jewish or the Islamic faiths.

And I’ve been to someone’s house that had a Koran and a Bible on the shelf next to each other.

Yes, there are some confused people out there.

OK...

That’s the correct vision of the nature of man.

No question mankind is fallen.

In contrast, the source of all ideological error is the assumption that man is “basically good”.

That's the source of *all* ideological error? I could see it being the source of most anthropological error, but you really can't think of *any* ideological error that isn't directly descended from that one error?

That's funny ... the first time I ever saw that symbol, I laughed, too, because I am a Christian with a decent knowledge of the theory of evolution and natural selection. I liked the symbol because to me it said, "You can be a Christian and a non-denier of evolution at the same time."

Evolution doesn't challenge God, it challenges human pride.

Great to be back :o) Has the HMS Creation seen any action while I’ve been away???

Some mild chop and a couple of squalls but nothing I really noticed.

Glad to have Captain GGG back at the helm.

I’ve actually done the research for various presentations.

Starting from Sowell’s Conflict of Visions, where he states the dichotomy of (his terms) the “constrained” vs the “unconstrained” view of man,
I took it back to where THOSE views of man come from - the nature of man, fallen and flawed, or “basically good” and perfectible.

I’ve always considered using one’s bumnper to put forth some ideological or political viewpoint as the depth of silliness.

>> I laughed the first time I saw a Darwin fish, although I am Christian.

I have been laughing at the “fish wars” since the first variants started coming out. I’ve seen some clever variants (my favorite I think was the “gefilte fish”).

A serious threat to the Church of Christ? Nah. I don’t think this will exactly “prevail against it”.

I feel sad for those who a) believe there’s nothing more to the universe than... well, than us sorry critters who evolved from dust and b) are, yet, so insecure about that “faith” they profess, that they have a strong need to attack those of us who believe otherwise.

It is our job as Christians to show them the light with meekness and love. That’s the best thing we can do. “For it is appointed to man once to die... and then the judgment”. The atheists can do nothing to escape that outcome.

Yep, I know I have to practice “restraint” when I see an “Obama” bumper sticker,

knowing that the people in that car are complicit with the destruction of the country my kids have to grow up in.
