Fighting back tears, Debby Smith, 53, told Obama of her kidney cancer and her inability to obtain health insurance or hold a job. The president hugged her--she's a volunteer for his political operation--and called her "exhibit A" in an unsustainable system that is too expensive and complex for millions of Americans. ... Smith, of Appalachia, Va., is a volunteer for Organizing for America, Obama's political operation within the Democratic National Committee. She obtained her ticket through the White House.

If my health care proposals were law today, you could rest assured that a Government appoint administrator with no experience in health care would be reviewing your case right now. And once they had looked at your condition, the state of your cancer, and the cost of treatment versus success for your type of cancer, you could go home knowing that you could spend the rest of your short life happy with all the morphine you could handle at minimum cost to you,
Under the Obama Health Plan this poor woman would be given pain killers and told to go home and die....
