Former Iraqi president Saddam Hussein told an FBI interviewer before he was hanged that he led the world to believe that his country had weapons of mass destruction because he did not want to appear weak to the Islamic Republic of Iran, according to declassified FBI documents released Wednesday.

Hussein was quoted as saying that he was so concerned about radical Iranian leaders that he was ready to sign a security agreement with the United States guaranteeing protection from Iran....

Hussein also referred to Osama Bin Laden as a "zealot" and said that he did not deal with al-Qaida....

Pre-war quotes from "lying" House and Senate democrats...

"In 1998, the United States also changed its underlying policy toward Iraq from containment to regime change and began to examine options to effect such a change, including support for Iraqi opposition leaders within the country and abroad.

In the 4 years since the inspectors, intelligence reports show that Saddam Hussein has worked to rebuild his chemical and biological weapons stock, his missile delivery capability, and his nuclear program. He has also given aid, comfort, and sanctuary to terrorists, including al-Qaida members, though there is apparently no evidence of his involvement in the terrible events of September 11, 2001."

"It is clear, however, that if left unchecked, Saddam Hussein wiill continue to increase his capability to wage biological and chemical warfare and will keep trying to develop nuclear weapons. Should he succeed in that endeavor, he could alter the political and security landscape of the Middle East which, as we know all too well, affects American security."

John Kerry on the floor of the Senate
October 2002:

"With respect to Saddam Hussein and the threat he presents, we must ask ourselves a simple question:

Why?

Why is Saddam Hussein pursuing weapons that most nations have agreed to limit or give up?

Why is Saddam Hussein guilty of breaking his own cease-fire agreement with the international community?

Why is Saddam Hussein attempting to develop nuclear weapons when most nations don't even try, and responsible nations that have them attempt to limit their potential for disaster?

Why did Saddam Hussein threaten and provoke?

Why does he develop missiles that exceed allowable limits?

Why did Saddam Hussein lie and deceive the inspection teams previously?

Why did Saddam Hussein not account for all of the weapons of mass destruction which UNSCOM identified?

Why is he seeking to develop unmanned airborne vehicles for delivery of biological agents?

I've read many accounts of widely-dispersed NBC sites in many, many places, but it's almost never backed up. This includes the notion that our satellites watched a bunch of as it was convoyed out of the country.

I just finished Marcus Luttrell's Lone Survivor where he recounts finding the trucks that contained Iraq's uranium centrifuges and other equipment stripped and abandoned near the Syrian and Jordanian borders a few weeks into the war.

Hmmmm..., then what was all that the Russians were carting out of Iraq, in convoys, and over into Syria before the war started?

Party of Defeat: How Democrats and Radicals Undermined America's War on Terror Before and After 9-11
By David Horowitz and Ben Johnson
FrontPageMagazine.com | Friday, April 11, 2008

The following [link] is the introduction from the new book Party of Defeat by David Horowitz and Ben Johnson. The introduction lays out the book's thesis: that the opposition to the war in Iraq has crossed a troubling boundary. For the first time, a large number of national leaders have not merely opposed a war; that would be their inalienable right under the U.S. Constitution. Instead, they have actively sabotaged an ongoing war they voted to authorize and which our troops are currently winning. Party of Defeat is available from the FrontPage Magazine Bookstore for $15, less than Amazon.com. -- The Editors.

In his book he criticizes members of the Democratic Party that, he says, are undermining the U.S.'s efforts in Iraq. This event was held at the National Press Club in Washington, D.C."

I came to the same conclusion, including his motive, in the months after we invaded. Basically, he brought it on himself. I still doubt he would have signed a mutual security pact with the U.S., nor that the U.S. would align with him. He may have felt that Bin Laden was a “zealot”, but that doesn’t mean he won’t use perceived or actual alliances with him to boost his standing in the Arab world.

A fair analogy can be drawn between Hitler-Soviet and Saddam-Iran, with the role of western Europe played by the Arab states. The Arab leaders feared and loathed Saddam but they saw him as a useful buffer against the Iranians. They were perfectly content with the status quo ante bellum, with the U.S. keeping Saddam at bay, Saddam keeping Iran at bay and Saddam’s sons raping the women of Iraq and feeding their brothers and husbands into shredders.

Here’s an article from July, 2008. It was posted here last night...

“Last of Saddam’s WMD (that which wasn’t moved to Syria before the war) secreted to Canada”
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/25546334/ ^

( The media and the democrats knew all along Saddam had WMD...we sent an engraved invite we were coming three months in advance, of course he moved his WMD to Syria——but the bloodthirsty “Bush Lied” chorus was allowed to perpetuate to destroy Bush)

Secret U.S. mission hauls uranium from Iraq Last major stockpile from Saddam’s nuclear efforts arrives in Canada

updated 6:57 p.m. ET, Sat., July 5, 2008

The last major remnant of Saddam Hussein’s nuclear program — a huge stockpile of concentrated natural uranium — reached a Canadian port Saturday to complete a secret U.S. operation that included a two-week airlift from Baghdad and a ship voyage crossing two oceans.

The removal of 550 metric tons of “yellowcake” — the seed material for higher-grade nuclear enrichment — was a significant step toward closing the books on Saddam’s nuclear legacy. It also brought relief to U.S. and Iraqi authorities who had worried the cache would reach insurgents or smugglers crossing to Iran to aid its nuclear ambitions.

What’s now left is the final and complicated push to clean up the remaining radioactive debris at the former Tuwaitha nuclear complex about 12 miles south of Baghdad — using teams that include Iraqi experts recently trained in the Chernobyl fallout zone in Ukraine.
