Sometimes the obsession for control of the climate got a bit out of hand, as in the Aztec state, where the local scientific/religious establishment of the year 1500 had long since announced that the debate was over and that at least 20,000 human sacrifices a year were needed to keep the sun moving, the rain falling, and to stop climate change. The widespread dissatisfaction of the people who were unfortunate enough to be the source of these sacrifices played an important part in the success of the Spanish conquest of Mexico.

Prohibition was a mistake, and our country has probably still not fully recovered from the damage it did. Institutions like organized crime got their start in that era.

I wonder if that was a reference to the current "organized" crime in our gangster government? Everyone should just send a bandit's mask and a toy gun to our congressman and tell them to wear it whenever they are passing these stupid global warming laws.

And finally, increasing concentrations of CO2 in the atmosphere will cause the earth's surface to warm.”

backwards.........................

One of the few things I remember from chemistry is that increasing the temp increases the chemical reaction.

Respiration/oxidation is a chemical reaction.

Yes! This is from Feb. 2009. I worked at Senate Environment & Public Works Committee and that is merely a glitch in his testimony. We requested they get the 2002 date out of it, but to no avail.

Here are some other Senate documents from his testimony.

Just read it. It’s really worthwhile to send it to your friends, especially the “AGW believers”. If they’ll actually read it.........

It is interesting that Dr. Happer mentions Lord Kelvin, in the following:

Lord Kelvin was a great believer in models and differential equations. Charles Darwin ... took observations very seriously.

Lord Kelvin is generally considered to be one of the greatest physicists of all time, but he forgot one key principal of science. Data trumps theory. Of course, the data might be erroneous, but there must be some reason to believe that it is wrong, other than the fact that it conflicts with theory.

The irony is that Dr. Happer makes an error in the same paragraph, when he says the following:

...in later editions of the "Origin of the Species."

The title of Darwin's book was "The Origin of Species", and he talks about how many different species have diverged from closely related species. "Species" is plural in the book title.

"Origin of the Species" is a misquote which came from the creationist crowd. They focus on implications about human evolution, so they pretend the book was about humans, and there is only one species important to them, so they pretend the title refers to human origin.

In fact, Darwin never mentioned humans (or even hominids) in his famous book. This illustrates how even someone as broadly educated as Dr. Happer, can still be supremely ignorant about other fields of science.

His argument is that on the balance, the warming is desirable:

Good point!

In fact, there is good reason to believe that the warming IS desirable. There is also good reason to believe that it is not a long term trend, that higher CO2 levels are desirable, that higher CO2 levels do not cause higher global temperatures (the reverse is true with a 1,000 year time lag), and that human CO2 inputs have no real effect on the level in the atmosphere.

It's only necessary to believe one of these things, to have good reason to oppose the idiocy being advocated by the panic mongers.

His comments are very persuasive. Unfortunately, he was speaking to career politicians who have little interest in the truth and great interest in political expediency.

An excellent post!

But this is now 7 months old. Dr. Happer has been capped and traded, and still no Republican Lochinvar comes out of the West to proclaim in plain English that a bullshiite concept without scientific foundation is wrecking the nation. Global Warming is now, well "global;" a religiuon that is sweeping the globe with far worse economic consequences than Islam could hope for in the wildest dream of the most fanatical terrorist.

80% of Ohio's electrical energy needs are presently met by coal, yet Rep. Kaptur (D Ohio) votes for Cap and Trade. And when this gets to the Senate, it won't die, it will be compromised into something more insidious and far worse.

Where are the Republicans?

Your own comments make it relevant, to this very second, because it has become a false religion that intends to take trillions of dollars from a deceived citizenry. It is Prohibition, it is the Salem witch trials, it is the bleeding of sick people in order to heal them, it is everything that was dreadfully wrong in the past that has been done under “consensus” yet totally unprovable with disastrous results.

This argument, from a Princeton physicist, is compelling and I would hope it gets spread as far as email can carry it so that individuals can begin to see the other side.
