Rasmussen poll confirms: People fear government that fears guns
examiner.com ^ | July 2, 2009 | Dave Workman

New Rasmussen poll released earlier this week reveals that 57 percent of Americans believe gun sales have skyrocketed in this country over the past several months because of fears that the government – now under control of the Obama administration and a Democrat Congress – will move to restrict gun rights.

Since just before last November’s election that put Barack Obama in the White House and has now finally put Far Left Democrat Al Franken in the U.S. Senate from Minnesota – giving Democrats a 60-seat filibuster-proof majority in the upper house – American citizens have been flocking to gun shops, gun shows and sporting goods stores. They’re stocking up on arms and ammunition, primarily semiautomatic sport-utility rifles and handguns, and home defense shotguns out of concern that ultimately, the anti-gun Nancy Pelosi Congress will move to ban those guns.

Now with Obama’s nomination of anti-gun-rights Judge Sonia Sotomayor for a pending vacancy on the Supreme Court, all bets are off in the gun community. The other day on TownHall.com, former NRA President Sandra Froman, a Tucson, AZ attorney urged her fellow gun owners to oppose the Sotomayor nomination. Alan Gottlieb, chairman of the Bellevue-based Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms, immediately came out swinging in late May when Sotomayor’s nomination was announced.

Gottlieb’s forward-thinking rejection of Sotomayor said the nomination affirmed gun owner concerns about the potential of an Obama-Pelosi gun control scheme, and the new Rasmussen poll bears that out. Rasmussen found that 63 percent of American men are concerned about the gun control threat, as are 51 percent of American women. Sixty-five percent of Republicans and 66 percent of non-aligned Americans (those not affiliated with either major party) believe gun sales are up due to the potential of new restrictions.

With Franken in there, the agenda is going to go into even higher gear. There is very little time left. I think when they move on the guns, the people will revolt.

“will move to restrict gun rights”
I do not fear that.
I fear one of the hundreds of swat teams the country has will come kick my door in to take my guns, by force. At the direction of this antiAmerican socialist p.o.s. and the democrat controlled congress.

Actually the title is somewhat misleading.
I don’t fear a government that fears guns,
I fear a government that doesn’t fear guns.

This is BS about people buying because of potential restrictions. If you didn’t fear Obama’s government, the fact that guns are restricted would not affect people to the extent we are seeing now. People know what Obama is about, and are preparing for the inevitable war between the Govt and the People.

Or the urban uprisings that result from obama’s failed policies (successes in his mind), much like the LA riots, where law and order breaks down for a while and people have to protect themselves. I see either or both as possibilities to prepare for.

Also agreed. Now is not the time to be without the proper means of defense. Get a weapon while you can.

I think many people, having seen what Clinton's Assault Weapons Ban did to price and availability for innocuous stuff like 10+ round capacity 10/22 magazines, do fear restrictions - BAD restrictions. However, the latter part of your comment is definitely the unspoken subtext in all of these "gun and ammo sales through the roof" articles and polls.

“People know what Obama is about, and are preparing for the inevitable war between the Govt and the People.’

That’s right and the government is going to lose. Keep arming yourself.

I guess that can be considered good news – people are starting to figure out that disarming the Law-abiding does nothing to reduce crime – only make it worse, and that there is only ONE reason for our ‘rulers’ to want to go after guns.

And just remember:

Registration and confiscation are the same thing, the only difference is where the guns are stored until being melted down or used against the people.

"Registration and confiscation are the same thing,.."

So is the census operation B.O. and Acorn are running. The unconstitutional info they are attempting to gather from citizens dumb enough to give it to them will be used against them in a myriad of ways.

The current administration’s frog march of America in the direction of the socialist collective will only be accelerated by the comfirmation of Franken. How long before members of ACORN begin wearing brown shirts and armbands?

Heller confirmed the individual right of the Second Amendment; however, strangulation by regulation can easily accomplish what statute cannot - the elimination of the private ownership of all firearms.

There are those who believe that Germany in the 1930’s was an anomaly unique to the German nation and the German people; those who believe it should think again - the human race is what it is.

I hear ya,

IIRC, it's supposed to be just an enumeration of the Citizenry, not a means to facilitate identity theft - or worse.

"I fear one of the hundreds of swat teams the country has will come kick my door in to take my guns, by force."

Maybe you should just get a small box and fill it with your guns. Then set it on the front porch with a note asking them to please not hurt you.

You're honest and I respect that. I think that about 90% of the folks who scream "They'll take my guns from my cold dead fingers" are mostly those who will look at the MP5 suppressed pointed at the heads of their wife and kids and roll over meekly. Look at the Katrina debacle. Yeah I know that Louisiana is a welfare state and all that, but what about the supposedly cajun blood flowing thru their veins? Those folks just rolled over and let national guardsmen from OTHER states kick in their doors and grab the guns! That is pretty durn close to letting foreign troops into their homes! Shades of Travis McGees books! EFAD

Two things ExSoldier,
Once you are a soldier you are always a soldier.

But mostly I’m sorry for the painful loss of your best friend.
GOD bless.
