ANCHORAGE, Alaska — Gov. Sarah Palin will resign her office in a few weeks, she said during a news conference at her Wasilla home Friday morning.
Lt. Gov. Sean Parnell will be inaugurated at the Governor’s Picnic at Pionner Park in Fairbanks on Saturday, July 25, Palin said.
There was no immediate word as to why she will resign, though speculation has been rampant that the former vice presidential candidate is gearing up for a run at the 2012 Republican presidential nomination.
Palin made the announcement flanked by Parnell and most, if not all, of her cabinet.
Parnell ran unsuccessfully against Rep. Don Young in the Republican primary last year.
The stunning announcement by Palin opens the floodgates for the 2010 gubernatorial race. Speculation that Palin might not seek re-election had fueled further conjecture of who might run.
This is a breaking story. Return to KTUU.com for more information

Really stunning .. beat me .. ;)
She may just be leaving the dirty
biz of politics. God bless her ..
she’s too good, has too many wonderful
qualities to be constantly vilified
and mocked incessantly.
I hope she doesn’t step down!!!!!!!!
Holy ****!
If she really is resigning, she must not be running for president. It makes no sense. Something must have happened.
I’ll wait for her announcement. It’s just specualtion.
Whatever she does regarding her office as Governor... she has to run in 2012.
Nice knowing ya Sarah!
What the heck is she doing?
My thoughts exactly.
Can you say “all in”?
This is a “faith” move, if I ever saw one.
She has been Called.
Is there an undisclosed health issue?
Didn’t see this coming. Why resign?????? It makes me think something is about to come out.
Good move, running for president and raising a family is a full time job.
Resignation is a BIG mistake if she actually aspires to higher, national office. Only three years as a governor in a very sparsely populated state will be a deal-breaker to a great number of Americans, if not to all but the most ardent Palin supporters.
“Cut and Run” Sarah - I can see it now.....
Saracuda or Quitacuda?
“Couldn't control spending - so, she quit!
Man oh man, how dumb can you get. If true, this all but ensures she will get nowhere..... just a small footnote in the history books - maybe.
To me this is devestating.....
Hmmmm...Not sure about this.
If she indeed is going to run for Prez in 2012 she is probably making the best decision out of three possible decisions.
It’s gotta be something like that.
More likely it will be 2016.
US Senate in 2010?
Wow...I’m not sure how bright this move is.
Still not voting for Romney.
Bizarre.

Why, you live in Alaska?
She may just be leaving politics all together. Resigning as a first term governor wouldn’t make sense politically to me. She may just want to raise her child and end the dirty attacks on her and her family.
No decent American would want to take the attacks, hatred and beatings she has endured from the Commie DemocRATS and their little toadies in the state run “media”. I don’t blame her. “American” politics is for kneecap busting thugs, Commie scum and greedy pigs these days. If you don’t meet that criteria, you shouldn’t be in politics.
This is not good.
She’s running away to Argentina with Mark Sanford.
(I can wish, can't I?)
LOL, we have a winner.
She probably has decided that she and her family being destroyed day after day after day in the vicious media just ain’t worth it.
She could literally be dead, and they would still flame you if you expressed ANY doubts about her being able to win. lol
I like Palin but have been sceptical of her prospects.
It is a complement to say that she’s not cut out for the despicable and degenerate world of contemporary national politics in America.
She really deserves much better than our politics would inflict on her.
I’m with you. She has a disabled son to care for, an unmarried daughter with a baby, and two other daughters that “need their mom.” I don’t know why people assume there’s something ON her. I think she got sick of the attacks on her children and she is protecting THEM.
I posted on another thread that I hope there hasn’t been a serious threat on her and her family.
She has had to endure more personally and about her family.
She is the only one I care for in 2012.
Scum.
And it ain’t!
Exactly! She's had enough of the personal stuff.
>>> [politics] just aint worth it. <<<<
Wouldn’t you?
I sure would.
I think you’re right.
I just remembered that all the ethics complains being hurled at her, which nearly bankrupted her family thanks to DemonRat ankle-biters, have no choice but to STOP if she isn’t the Governor.
She really doesn’t have the money to just do nothing.
Maybe Zero has offered her a job in the administration.
Cdchik123 I would agree with you. I think the press has done a job on her and her family in which they wanted to take her out before the next election. While I hate to see her go, how much is she expected to take. I don’t blame her because she and her family just don’t need the hate mongering. The liberal media has been vile and disgusting - they can be real proud of themselves - but the one thing is - they ultimately will have to answer for their actions.

I've always liked her, and still do, but I had my doubts as to whether or not she could win after the bad campaign she was in, combined with the constant trashing by the media.
Who knows.
The GOP is at fault for not defending her even a little bit and in many ways stabbed her in the back
Don't blame her one bit, life is too short to live everyday with the most slimy, lowlife sleaze balls treating her and her family lower than snake dropping
