Unsinkable Palin eyes run against Obama?
The Times ^ | 1/4/2008 | Tony Allen-Mills

~snip~

Palin ended 2008 with a striking run of personal successes in high-profile popularity polls. According to a poll by Gallup she was the second most admired woman of the year, after Hillary Clinton. Time magazine chose her as the world’s fourth most influential person, behind Barack Obama, Henry Paulson of the US Treasury and President Nicolas Sarkozy of France.

Last week she triumphed in an annual poll, commissioned by a property website, as the person Americans would most like to have as their neighbour. She finished ahead of Oprah Winfrey, the television chat show queen, and Michael Phelps, the Olympic swimmer.

For all the abuse she endured as an underprepared vice-presidential candidate who knew more about skinning moose than resolving Middle Eastern conflict, Palin continues to excite Republican voters enthralled by what they see as a unique political style that could one day put paid to Obama. She has not returned to the Alaska governor’s office to lick her wounds.

An internet campaign is already under way to promote Palin as the Republican party’s best choice to challenge Obama in the presidential elections of 2012. More than 60,000 people have joined TeamSarah.org, an umbrella group that unites numerous pro-Palin fan clubs such as Catholics for Sarah, Texans for Palin and Small Business-Owners for Sarah.

James Brislin, a Connecticut team member, noted that “the Republican party has lost its way . . . Sarah Palin is who we need moving forward”.

The 44-year-old governor is already facing conflicting pressures to map out a strategy that would give her a bigger voice in national affairs without alienating Alaskan voters, some of whom are already complaining that Palin has “not been paying attention” to the state’s mounting problems.

“Palin’s mindset is still all about the campaign rhetoric and her national aspirations,” said Andrew

Romney could step in and offer to pay off Palin’s legal debt in return for her support in the primary.

I could see a sleazy leftist like Romney trying to buy her vote.

I doubt it's for sale.

A half million is the least of her problems, even if she is calling it quits. You would be surprised at the number of people who have volunteered that they are anxious to help her. Help means money.

The Romney people have been very gracious toward her. I would not be surprised to see Romney attending a fundraiser for her, even if she is the competition.

What if Sarah went to 40 DemocRAT congressional disrticts - those that voted for Cap and Trade, and raised some money for challengers; do you think some folks would be out of a job next Nov?

Maybe she spends a 18 months writing her book, speaking and raising money, sounds better than being governor. She can earn enough to retire, to make a difference for her family and start a new round of Conservative actions in America...I'm with her.

A machine may not fail if one grain of sand gets into it. But it will fail if enough sand clogs the machine and it breaks down.
If enough honest people get behind Sarah, then we can break the machine.
RUN SARAH< RUN.

AGREE!!! Now that Sara doesn’t have ethics constraints to contend with, she can simply hold about 3 rallies in the states and wipe out that debt. I’ll certainly shell out $25 to see, even in a crowd of 20,000 people...as long as I know the money is going to good cause (i.e., her future).

Romney’s out business...it’s got to be tough on him.

I had the same thought ... either that or work with Newt and American Solutions? American Solutions calls itself a Tri-Party Citizen Action Network... She said in her speech she will help where she can regardless of party.

Really looking forward to what she has up her sleeve. Talk about keeping media eyes on you. Not only is the media more interested in her than in Michael Jackson, they are more interested in her than in Obama. I have no idea what the Obamas are doing for America’s birthday. Quite the accomplishment! I think they both love and hate her.

When I met Sarah last year I told her that she brought back the red white and blue feeling to Americans who have always been proud of their country.
Well, she has done it again and I give her my full support to win this country back.
Pray for her strength.

I listened to her entire announcement. It was honorable, it was direct, and it punctuated the insane politics of our day...it also punctuated her personal commitment to fight, and to do so when it would not distract further from her job as Governor and the foundation she has built there.

I am proud of her and support her. She is a great American.

I think Sarah has just turned, like a fed-up mama Bear, on her detractors. She has put things in order, she has left them in the hands of capable people, and she has now turned to face her enemies directly.

...and I think they are going to be sorry. We have smelled the fear in them for a long time. Good on her!

I believe she will assist others greatly in 2010, and will run herself in 2012...and she has my full support.

GO SARAH GO!

Exactly! They complain that Sarah doesn’t know enought about foreign affairs. But I’ll be that she DOES know the there are only 50 states in the U.S., which Hussein does NOT know. (Well, he probably knows now; he didn’t during the campaign.)

Palin will excite the base like no other in a long time. If she chooses to, she could have a hand in a massive conservative takeover of Congress in 2010. She will be a lightning rod for consevatives across America.

knew more about skinning moose than resolving Middle Eastern conflict,

Sarah has better judgement about the middle-east than all the Beltway elites who think the situation can be "resolved" by pandering to Islamo-nazis. Supporting Isreal, keeping a strong military, killing the Jihadists, and developing our own energy sources is the best middle-east policy. Knowledge without wisdom and values is worthless.

Ya think maybe her plans to spend 2010 doing speaking engagements and supporting Republican candiates has something to do with building a “machine”? How much of a “machine” did Barak Obama have in 2005?

Pretty good considering where is today. State senate, US senate, POTUS in a record setting time.

The Army of ACRON is only part of the “Machine” a solid funding source - like ‘bamays Union checkbooks, is also needed. Political operatives are needed.

saraH has none of this - or at least what she has is all but invisible.
She has gone out of her way to pi$$ off the local (R) party
Seems to have done the same at the National level
No known or visible funding sources or a fundraiser organization. (see union/ACRON comment above)
and her ‘advisers’ seem to be third string at best - her spokesperson is a recycled TV presenter. for example.

Can she overcome all of this at some point - yes. In just a few years? Don't know, but I doubt it. 2016? Possible.

Starting a 3rd party based on a single individual is a recipe for failure. RE: Ross Perot, WHIGS, Know-Nothings et al. But hey! It's the 4th, have a hot dog with the kids or neighbors.

She’s not going to do a third party.

As for Obama, no he didn’t have a machine in 2005. He was a junior Senator, and all the unions and pols in the democrat party were ready to line up behind the defacto nominee, Hillary. He built a grass roots organization from scratch (actually Axelrod did) based on ideologically driven lefties who were tired of “moderates” like Clinton, and ran in oppostion to the party establishment.

No reason we can’t do the same in the Republican party.
