How Palin's Resignation Makes Her the True Frontrunner

Rather than a blow to a career, Sarah Palin's decision to resign underlines her self-awareness, writes The Daily Beast's John Batchelor. She is now unmatched for the 2012 primary. The early excuse for the Republican circular firing squad of the holiday weekend is that Weekly Standard editor and party brainiac Bill Kristol claims that pugnacious McCain campaign enforcer Steve Schmidt has been caught gossiping to Vanity Fairs Todd Purdum about Sarah Palins rambling and incoherent vice-presidential campaign last September and October...

as governor of alaska, sarah would have to be in alaska most of the time.
now she is free to hawk her book in the lower 48 and to fill the
republican leadership vacuum.
later, she’ll announce.

I listened to her entire announcement. It was honorable, it was direct, and it punctuated the insane politics of our day...it also punctuated her personal commitment to fight, and to do so when it would not distract further from her job as Governor and the foundation she has built there.
I am proud of her and support her. She is a great American.
I think Sarah has just turned, like a fed-up mama Bear, on her detractors. She has put things in order, she has left them in the hands of capable people, and she has now turned to face her enemies directly.
...and I think they are going to be sorry. We have smelled the fear in them for a long time. Good on her!
I believe she will assist others greatly in 2010, and will run herself in 2012...and she has my full support.
GO SARAH GO!

Here is hoping after a couple of days the commentary will change a bit more positive (at least in the conservative circle)about what she has done. Commentators and bystanders have reacted to quick and havent really thought about what she said. I think she has seized the door and she is going to kick the %%^^^ door in! Its time to fight hard and she knows it as well as Rush and Levin does. This is a fight for our country!

The nonsense written about Sarah Palin could fill many garbage trucks. What a disappointment that so few, if any responsible journalists are still around! Who is paying these character assassins? They are all over the place! Amazing!

Of a number of smarmy and put-down light comments, this remains the most telling of the piece:
"The darkest revelations about Palin are that she didnt like preparing for the tedious TV interviews; she treated the dull Biden debate as irrelevant; and she wanted to make her own concession speech on election night. In sum, the governor does not like losers, does not like to lose, and was liberated the moment she shed the burden of bootless John McCain... ...the governor does not need much more than a ballot line from the aimless, tongue-tied, villain-rich GOP. She certainly does not need the GOP to do well in the congressional mid-terms in 2010; she does not need the party to improve its flabby polling on health care or trust; she does not even need the Republican Party to raise a voice to explain her positions on the burning controversies on Capitol Hill. Palin does not need to prove anything at all about wise government, because she appeals directly to the anti-authoritarian crowd that has been with us since Shays Rebellion in 1787. It is an accident of history, and of John McCains whimsy, that Sarah Palin caught Potomac Fever in September 08, and it will carry her either to the White House or to that place even rarer, where the Kingfisher dwells, called what-couldve-been."

When is her book due out? I can imagine that without the weight of being in public office she could make it a bit more incisive.
To: skimbell
Sarah drew a line-in-the-sand. Now, let’s see how long before Hillary starts to make a move. Hillary will come out ‘strong’ Obama, and now she is pressured to come out soon. Hillary has a machine in the MSM in place, so look for it to start spinning faster soon. Sarah was not supposed to do thei, or so they (Hillary’s camp) thought. Now Hill is being forced....

"as governor of alaska, sarah would have to be in alaska most of the time. "
Also, the dems and the media are holding the state of Alaska as a "hostage" to force Palin to spend too much time on defense. I think this move is her move to total "offense" (based on her basketball analogy), without the fear of her beloved Alaska being punished in the process.
Sometimes, when your enemies are pushing the hardest - a step to one side will remove their prop and they will fall on their faces.
As a public official, Palin would be somewhat obligated to react to the media and their ridiculous charges, but as a free agent she call tell them to go suck a rope.
Besides, with the personal debt of $500,000 that the dems have caused her to endure, the only way she can retire that debt is through book sales, and she could not be as candid in the book as she'd like without it reflecting on Alaska.
I believe this woman, and I believe she is sincere. She is tired of the people she loves being dragged through the swamp while she is gagged by the constraints of office and protocol. After she leaves office, the gloves are off and the left - and even McCain't and his minions - might wish they'd kept their collective mouths shut.

This is getting interesting.
Look next at Romney. What will his move be? He and maybe Huck, were the only ones “free” to grab the Republican leadership.
Will he change his plans now? Move up his appearances?
If he does then that means his people think she is a serious contender.

Batchelor gets it.Indeed. he does. Here's my fav line of the piece:
What Palin begins with an announcement from Wasilla is not only a campaign, it is an Iditarod of a crusade.
Like Todd, she can win this Iditarod.
The comments thread below the Batchelor article give you a good idea of what she has been fighting, while being muzzled.
Now, the gloves come off.

I think almost everyone in Washington is using the “round peg” analysis on a “square hole” politician.
Palin is so far out of the paradigm of Washington politics and commentary, that they can’t even begin to do an accurate assessment.
