OAS eyes Honduras suspension, but beaten to punch
Associated Press ^ | 49 minutes ago | Associated Press

Posted on 07/04/2009 12:28:27 PM PDT by fiodora

WASHINGTON (AP) — The Organization of American States is meeting in Washington to consider suspending Honduras' membership because of the military coup that ousted President Manuel Zelaya.

The group's assistant secretary-general, Albert Ramdin, said Zelaya planned to attend Saturday's emergency meeting. Zelaya is expected to address foreign ministers

Ramdin says the OAS does not regard the current Honduran government as legitimate — so it can't withdraw from the OAS.

Ministers agreed Tuesday on a 72-hour ultimatum for the Honduran government to reinstate Zelaya or face an OAS suspension. But Honduras' interim president calls the OAS "a political organization, not a court."

THIS IS A BREAKING NEWS UPDATE. Check back soon for further information. AP's earlier story is below.

If the OAS doesn’t like Honduras’s actions they should declare war on them. Nuke ‘em. Send in the OAS military. Bomb them into submission. /s

I would love to see some GOP spokesperson(s) call a press conference to support the legal, constitutional government of Honduras. 0bama is an anti-freedom, dictator-loving Marxist. On Independence Day, it would sure be nice to let Honduras know the Fraud does not speak for the real America.

JoSixChip had the brilliant idea that Sarah could make a first trip as an independent citizen to show solidarity and support of the Honduran government to contrast with the Marxist's policy.

You gotta love these clowns. They obviously haven’t thought this through to the next step. If the old government’s the only one they recognize, then they’ve just suspended the ‘legitimate’ government. The only way they can suspend the “illegitimate” government would be to admit them so they can be suspended. It just gets sillier and sillier.

You’re fired!

No, I quit!

No, I fired you!

No, I quit!

I said you’re fired!

And I said, I quit...

The OAS, can say what it wants, the government of Honduras is legitimate. In this instance the OAS’ opinion is also legitimate, as even wrong opinions can be. It is still irrelevant. Honduras has dropped out of the OAS, and anything the OAS says is just posturing.

Honduras is a sovereign nation. It has every right to conduct it’s business as it sees fit.

It’s not harming it’s citizens. All is well. Life goes on.

Masterful move Zelaya. You went from president to a man without a country.

I agree with all you said except that all is well in Honduras. Nicaragua has closed its border to trading. Venezuela has cut off supplies of refined gasoline and diesel. The World Bank has suspended financial aid. 0bama has threatened to cut off U.S. aid. It is reported that at least a thousand Nicaraguan and Cuban agitators have infiltrated through the Nicaraguan border, with Honduran passports, to stir up pro-Zelaya sentiment. (It was also reported that many had come in before to vote in Zelaya's little referendum.) The UN has stated it will refuse to recognize the current government of Honduras.

The forces are aligning to crush the constitutional government of Honduras.

BREAKING NEWS: we’ve found out that Zelaya conviently shutted douwn our radars allowing Venezuelan flag planes to carry drugs to the US.
ALSO Zelaya spent $80,000 (yes US Dollars) in 5 days!

We are fighting not only for our country, but also to protect the US from harm by drugs, we fight to protect a country that always has made good things for our people.

I think you make some very powerful points there.

If Honduras is crushed, it will be a real tragedy.

People who think international entanglements are just great, should go to school on this.

International governance, is a threat to more than Honduras.

[That is pretty much just pro-chavista propaganda.]

Mostly, yeah. I should have said “fuller” rather than “full story.” AP went into more detail about the government's justifiable alarm over Zelaya’s actions than previous AP stories. What is described is not a military coup:

“The military on June 28 acted under orders from the Supreme Court and with the support of Congress, which is controlled by Zelaya’s Liberal Party _ though nearly all members had turned against him. Lawmakers unanimously installed congressional leader Roberto Micheletti, who failed to get his party's presidential nomination last fall, as the new head of state the same day.”

From June 28, AP:

“The president of Honduras, Manuel Zelaya, has been forced into exile after being arrested by a group of soldiers in an apparent military coup. . .More than a dozen soldiers disarmed his security guards after surrounding his residence before dawn.”

Zelaya spent $80,000 (yes US Dollars) in 5 days!

What a piker! If you divide our budget by 365, then by the number of congressmen, it appears the average congressman spends about 23 million per day! Can we get this Zelaya guy to run for US Congress? LOL

Darn straight! They are acting more like a sovereign government.

Please leave a comment on this Honduran mission blog, and commit to prayer and fasting tomorrow for the Honduran people.

We're already in such a world of trouble. Honduras had a congress willing to uphold the rule of law over any self interests each legislator might have had. Including the courage to face the sanctions now being brought against the whole country. That could play havoc on their political careers even though they did the right thing.

They also had a SC with integrity. We might. But I did have to use the word 'might.'
