The Jericho III is supposed to be for nuclear attacks but Israel could just change the nuclear warhead to deliver a conventional payload.

before the PC police took over Hollywood, the common cowboy and Indians strategy was to shoot the Chief and the rest of the Indians would not fight.

Iran is controlled by a barbaric bunch of mullahs and one “Chief”, I believe that cowboy and Indian strategy is going to be the result.

Israel knows that it cannot count on our Hussein for assistance. He will criticize any attack on Iran. And should Iran launch terror operations against the US, here or abroad, Hussein will excuse them as necessary/reasonable or God knows what, laying the blame squarely on Israel.

Another strategic move by Israel would be to leave one warhead on a Jericho III missile, take out Qom and the Mullahs at the same time they take out the nuclear sites. That would be an excellent way to straighten out more than one problem in Iran....

Israel doesn’t need Hussein’s assistance, nor does his criticism matter. The rest of the world has taken his measure and they see Jimmy Carter.

Israel will go strong. It’s going to be a coordinated attack with ballistic missiles and fighter/bombers and special ops. To reduce Iranian responses re: the Straits of Hormuz, they will also take out a significant chunk of Iran’s navy. Then they will hunker down and let Obama and others criticize them (while all in the West will be secretly thanking them).

The most pressing question is whether Obama will take action if Iran tries to block the Straits of Hormuz. He won’t want to, but he has no choice.

“Iran is controlled by a barbaric bunch of mullahs and one “Chief”, I believe that cowboy and Indian strategy is going to be the result. “

Unfortunately, I don’t think Iran is reliant only on one or few madmen (like Nazi-Germany). The goal for nukes is widely shared among the ruling elite and also by the masses. The masses are probably not interested in nuking Israel, though, but they want the nukes nevertheless.

Anyway, this was one of the best articles I have read for a long time about Israel’s option and capabilities. Only thing missing was the submarine option (also posted on FR today).

The attack would probably start with fighter jets, ie initial strike with ~80 jets bypassing radar systems. Then, the surprise element is lost, and subsequent F15/F16 strikes would be much more dangerous. Instead, the second phase would involve ballistic conventional missiles (Jericho) and missiles from the submarine(s) on the Red Sea.

I’m not sure if commando operations are possible (sounds like a suicide mission).

One of the pictures I most remember out of the Gaza strip was when Israel decided that the best course of action was to target the leadership, there was some blind Sheik that they targeted in a wheelchair and all that the Palestinians could parade around was his head.

After that the leadership maintained a very low profile, what was demostrated the past week is that there really is not as much support for this regime as we are led to believe.

I still envision the Michael Corleone offense

“today I took care of all family business”
being the result.

It was just announced the other day that one of Israel’s submarines has been transferred from the Med to the Red Sea, which puts her in play for any ops against Iran.

this is actually interesting approach (I’m sure Israel is also debating that).

Targeting Iranian leadership would be more complicated and led to more international condemnation (formal heads of state). On the other hand, recent events in Iran have shown that the leaders are not legitimate. They are also not popular among Iranian people. Mullahs are not even formal heads of the state.

So, I think that targeting the Supreme Leader Khamanei and the leaders of the IRGC and Basij would make a lot of sense. In fact, the first strike should target them. Israel can state the reasons that they are personally responsible of genocide attempt.
President Ahmadinejad is irrelevant and formal head of state so maybe better to leave him alive. His hate speeches and racist rants actually help Israel in international arena.

So I hope that Israel has extra 10 missiles reserved for Khamenei and other mullah leaders.

Agree, this is one of the best articles I’ve read about Israel’s options and capabilities.

I’m not sure it outlined all the obvious consequences though. Does anyone doubt that, in event of a first strike, all the Israeli leaders would branded war criminals and hauled to Europe for trial? The only thing that would prevent this might be strong support from the US, but again, does anyone believe this would be forthcoming?

I hope I’m wrong, so somebody please tell me so.

You speaking of using the MOAB on the whack job in charge and the mullahs? Because they will be well dispersed and may well be located in areas unsuitable for such an attack. Like hospitals and schools and deep, hardened bunkers the MOAB won't touch. Remember the MOAB is the largest non-nuclear explosive power available. Any uptick in power requires atoms splitting.

In this article, I see some commentary about USA/USSR cold war relations contributing to the MAD scenario being workable. But I see no references to how Russia and the hard line communist, Putin would react to an Israeli attack. A lot of Biblical scholars seem to indicate that Russia represents the GOG army of the book of Revelation. Putin might very well be the final commander of the GOG army.

The Russian response here might set up a Biblical prophesy in Ezekiel 38 & 39, wherein GOG (Russia) invades or massively attacks Israel. The fulfillment of the prophesy is that the Russian attack fails spectacularly and not one single Israeli casualty results. Not a hair is touched on the heads of the People of God. Further it is incontrovertible evidence that there has been a Divine intervention, no other explanation is possible and it sparks revival in Israel.

I know this article was a secular military and political analysis of the situation, but since Israel stands at the center of both Christian and Islamic end times prophesy, this is linkage is unavoidable. I'll bet the Ayatollah and the Mullahs are doing the same thing with their prophesies, as well. Another Biblical prophesy concerning this scenario is the one pertaining to Syria noted in Isaiah 17 concerning the utter destruction of Damascus. I think that a tight countdown to both is underway. The lighting of the fuse might very well be an Israeli attack on Iran.

The Atheists here on FR will no doubt jump in here but the nonreligious consequences outlined in this secular article are still potentially catastrophic and terrifying, all by themselves. My adding the Christian angle simply adds another dimension or layer to the overall scenario. That's all.

.......those whack jobs do come together for lots of events.

Only so long as they're not in fear for their lives. Once they are truly aware that Israel is going to pull the trigger on them personally, they'll stay dispersed and they know very well that the time for Israel to bide their time is almost done. Israel is on a much tighter timeline because of the urgency on the ever progressing Iranian nukes. If they come together it will be in areas not open to attack and with Iranian intelligence bird dogging the gathering to insure MOSSAD and the far less effective CIA don't have eyes into the event.

And . . . the secularists . . .

as Scripture says . . .

“The fool has said in his heart, there is no God.”

I figure God knows em best.

I have such little and rapidly decreasing respect for such cluelessness . . . I don’t want to bother with them that much any more.

Anyone . . . who . . . on top of being blind about God . . . is blind about END TIMES scenarios and fulfilled prophecy

ON TOP OF being blind about globalism etc.

. . . well . . . their heads must be so deep in their respective dark places that their tonsils must be chatting with their appendix-es.

I see no reason to try and vainly interrupt those chats.

Like the Israeli did with demolishing the nuclear installation in Syria, first they have to blind their enemy.

Totally ridiculous speculation about something that will never happen. Israel can’t even build housing in sections of Jerusalem without getting heaped on by the world community, including the United States. And anyone thinks they’ll attack Iran? What an excellent justification that would give the world, to dismantle Israel, scatter its frightened population, and carpet it with welcoming rose petals for the muslims.

Iran is a nemesis, no help from America on this as our government takeover has been a tragedy. Hope this ends with BIG explosions in Iran and no fallout. The hatred toward Israel and the increased anti-semitism is really a mess, BUT, "...if good men do nothing..."

Totally ridiculous speculation about something that will never happen. Israel can’t even build housing in sections of Jerusalem without getting heaped on by the world community, including the United States.

Maybe, but when has that ever deterred them? They're through getting pushed around by bigger nation states. They've got "THE BOMB." Remember that the chief creators, Einstein, Teller & Oppenheimer were all Jews. Israel has got, at our last estimation perhaps 100 medium yield nuclear weapons capable of being delivered in a variety of ways and all capable of reaching their chief enemies in the region.

And anyone thinks they’ll attack Iran? What an excellent justification that would give the world, to dismantle Israel, scatter its frightened population, and carpet it with welcoming rose petals for the muslims.

Those would be the same skeptics who said the same thing before Israel pulled the Entebbe Raid; sicc'ed MOSSAD on Black September all around the world (after the Munich Olympics) AND took out Saddam's reactor in the early 80's? Yah, right. That dismantlement as you put it has been tried by the entire Arab regional armed forces combined a couple of times and Israel still keeps kicking Arab A$$, the small summer debacle a couple of years ago notwithstanding. Once the IDF is well and truly let off the leash, they can take care of themselves against all comers. Even this administration, as anti-semitic as it is, would think twice about taking such a move, militarily. First of all, they don't have the guts. Second they'd lose their liberal Jewish political base here. Even if they acted only in some fashion like the ever popular Economic Sanctions, they'd lose the Jewish vote AND the Jewish donations to the DNC. They can't afford that for the foreseeable future.

Finally, although they can't be seen as being overtly supportive, the majority of the Arab nations are well and truly terrified of the Iranian regime's extremism and they are silently praying that Israel does a righteous job in removing that threat. Why is Iran a threat to her neighbors? Well, let's see. Maybe because their own Dear Leader (Mahmoud Imanutjob) sees HIMSELF as the fabled MAHDI who will rise up and unite the Arab world in global jihad? Maybe because that whole "Messiah" mentality is bad for the OIL BUSINESS? And commerce in general? Ya think?

These are all secular arguments I've posited. The final say can be found in several chapters of the Bible. Look at Isaiah 17, Ezekiel 38 & 39; much of the Book of Daniel AND most of the Book of Revelation. I don't know about you, but I'm warming up the popcorn and getting my seat all comfy because the biggest show in all of HISTORY is about to get started. RAPTURE READY?

One cannot avoid seeing that the situation with Iran is only narrowing the options Israel has to deal with that threat. With our present administration now taking a hostile tac with Israel, only the worst can be expected from it. Ez 38 conditions are becoming more and more set.

while a nuke may not destroy underground Iranian facilities - the emp, surface destruction and residual radiation will make it very difficult for operations to continue without a LOT of clean up.

Naturally, if Israel has to resort to those measures all Hell will break out in the persian gulf as well as gaza and Lebanon. That may be the stratigic play-off. Israel believes it can handle Hamas / Hezzies / Syria conventionally, and has an adequate missile shield to defend against Iranian counter strike attempts. They are not worried about the persian gulf - where the oil sheiks hate Iran about as much as Israel. So let them handle the problem in the gulf.

I believe that cowboy and Indian strategy is going to be the result.

I agree, at the end of the day the facilities are not the problem, the leadership is. A coordinated strike against the leadership and some elements of the republican guard would set back their plans significantly. If it does not work follow up and hit the facilities.

Wait until their parliament is in session chanting America is the great satin and turn the place into rubble. Continue hitting every leadership location and command and control location until the last remaining “leaders” are living in a Sadam spider hole wetting their pants.
