Detroit political mess reaching governor?
Published: July 1, 2009 at 3:44 PM
DETROIT, July 1 (UPI) -- A high-profile Detroit political consultant says the FBI is looking into payments he says he received to not criticize Michigan Gov. Jennifer Granholm.
Sam Riddle told the Detroit News that the $50,000 he received from the Michigan Democratic Party in 2006 was election-year "hush money" to bolster Granholm's campaign against Republican Dick DeVoss.
The newspaper said Wednesday that party officials called the payment a business contract for media consulting, and added that the FBI has not contacted them.
Riddle also said agents also wanted to know about Granholm's connections to Bernard Kilpatrick, a business consultant and father of then-Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick.
Bernard Kilpatrick has close ties to more than one Detroit-area politician who has run afoul of federal investigators, including City Councilwoman Monica Conyers, who pleaded guilty to bribery charges and resigned.
A spokeswoman for the governor told the News the issue was between Riddle and the party.

If you think Detroit is a mess now, just wait until they start pumping out those fart-free Obamamobiles.

What also isn't mentioned is the Patriach of the Wayne County political machine. Ed McNamara, who was like the Boss Daley of Wayne County government. McNamara's dead, so he's untouchable, but Granholm is a protege of McNamara. So is Kwame. Benard Kilpatrick, Kwame's dad, worked for McNamara. Former prosecutor Mike Duggan was also a McNamara guy before moving on to a cushy gig at Detroit Medical Center. Duggan's also tied up with Metro Cars which got some nice contracts with the airport which of course has a terminal named after McNamara.
There may or may not be fire, but there's a hell of a lot of smoke. Kwame and Granholm had a falling out, but they are both still McNamara cronies.

All of the Detroit dems are corrupt. The jury is still out on Bing though, he may be ok. Granholm is incompetent but I doubt she is really corrupt. She did “blow us all away” as she promised though. The state is in shambles.
