Indiana, Pa., July 3rd Tea Party
July 4th, 2009 | sneakers

Posted on 07/04/2009 3:55:59 PM PDT by sneakers

About 300 - 400 patriots turned out for the Indiana, Pa. Tea Party in front of the Indiana County Courthouse. Not a bad turnout for a little-advertised event in a small town!

There were Republicans, Democrats and Independents present. We had one disruptor carrying an "obama" sign who said his parents were going to lose their house and Obama took care of it for them. Just wait until "obamacare" throws them under the bus! He was yelling "obama! Obama!". We yelled "USA! USA!" The speaker pointed out that he had the right to free speech as well and everybody cheered!

Among the speakers: Tim Burns and Bill Russell - both of whom will be vying for the Republican nomination against John Murtha. We all signed a "no confidence" petition against Murtha.

There was prayers, patriotic song, and a reading of the Bill of Rights. People really DO know what's going one. Obama and his 'czars' and congress aren't pulling the wool over our eyes like they think they are! Everybody really IS angry! We are not going away! our Tea Party might have been small - but that's how it started in 1773!

Indiana is the boyhood home of actor Jimmy Stewart. You can see his statue in front of the courthouse (where I work, incidentally). Jimmy would be proud! He was a staunch conservative Republican too, you know!

My estimates are probably waaayy off. There was two other freepers there (whom I did not get to meet, unfortunately!) They might have a better guess on the numbers.

WOW, you had a GREAT turnout! The Gadsden looks fantastic!

How long did your Tea Party last? Ours was a little over 2 hours. I think your venue might have been a little nicer than ours. Even with a couple of thousand we were spread out so much it made the crowd look smaller.

Amazingly for being so close to Pitt, CMU, et all we didn't have any hecklers.

Thanks for the pics, report and ping!

Ours lasted about as long as yours did. The crowd was packed in there so it probably looks like more than it was. But, for Indiana, it was a great turnout! Also, the infamous IUP is out except for the summer students, so no looney lefties to counter-protest! There was bible readings from our own version of “Joe the Plumber” and he didn’t pull any punches about the ‘same-sex marriage’ thing! he read bible passages against, um, ‘that sort of thing’! lol! Things that needed to be said, out loud, were said! No political correctness at OUR tea party! Ha!

If anything I'd say you might be a little low on the estimate. Nice to see pics of Mr sneakers and sneakers jr too! Did they have a good time?

Once again Wife wasn't real thrilled about going. Yesterday was our second grandchild's birthday and she was at my daughter's house from early morning into the night helping get things ready for the party.

At one point she picked up a stroller and threw her back out. I had to run and get medicine so she could move.

baby strollers used to be small and light, now they're as big as small cars, LOL!

In any case once she got there she got into it. She even went and bought a couple of small Gadsdens. I put one on the Durange and she's giving the other to our oldest son. He couldn't make it because of prior commitments.

BTW did anyone there mention anything about demonstrating at Casey and Specter's offices on July 7th? Patti Weaver, the gal who is pretty much organizing things, asked if we could show up for a demonstration. Not sure how that's going to work, I have to find the info on the web.

I guessed about 300-500 as well. It was very well-organized. The songs choices were picked to puncuate a particular feeling. Bob the plumber said what we all think; Dr. Kinter stirred the passion nicely to end an awesome event. And guess what? No arrests, no car fires, no molotov cocktails at all.
Sneakers-I am sorry I missed you! I did look! Thanks for all of your great work. You are a GREAT AMERICAN!

Oh gosh! too bad about your wife! Is she doing better now?

Yep, mr sneakers was very enthused! Son and friends forgot about it and showed up a bit late. They enjoyed it but couldn’t stay long. Mt sister and her two daughters, and my brothers daughter were there too. They had no idea what it was all about. A good education for my nieces!

I didn’t hear anything said about a demonstration at Specter & Casey’s office. Where? In Pittsburgh?

Well, mr sneakers is pacing. We need to go uptown for our family get together tomorrow! See ya later!

I started the USA chant.

LOL! I think that's why Wife doesn't like to go places with me. She claims I'm always showing off or starting something.

Today I started a "Vote Them Out!" chant which went quite well. My "Sink Cap'n Trade"...ummm ...not so much. That's when she left to buy a couple of hand held Gadsdens.

I just noticed that Coraopolis is have a Tea Party on July 11th. That's not too far away and in a heavily demo-rat infested area so I think I'll go lend some support!prisoner6

Hey p6, I’m originally from Coraopolis. I saw the cartoon on their Tea party webpage. It was excellent! If you go, make sure to send pics and a report! I still have friends and relatives there. I wonder if any of them will be there!

I went to the Greensburg Tea Party on April 15th. There was a really nice turnout, in spite of the weather - and I got to meet pennsylvaniamom and some past freepers!

We were there, too!! We stood by the intersection where the one Obama supporter kept driving around shouting at us. I think my students were hoping I would get arrested for civil disobedience or something :)

Glad all of you guys could come. Thank You all so much. Wearing that uniform and standing along the highway took it’s toll. Too many times I felt like I was alone. Your pictures have done my heart a lot of good. Next step in Indiana Pa. is to make a good “hand-off” to the next party organizers. We’ll be contacting everyone soon for that “hand-off”. Pray for us that some great people will step up. I know that I can’t do it again. I got too close.

May God bless you and your families....

May God bless and save this Great Republic...

Isn’t there a guy who’s challenging Russell?

I sure hope so.
I just listened to Russell's video on job creation, and he seems sadly naive about the Pennsylvania coal industry. Hey, I'm all in favor of clean-coal technology, but I don't see a resurgence of coal as creating a wealth of new jobs in the region. Sixty or seventy years ago maybe, but not today. Granted, there still may be a lot of coal left in those hills, but all the easy stuff was extracted during the last century. And he doesn't say anything about the environmental regulations that hinder modern extraction methods. So what good is clean coal technology if you can't get what's left out of the ground economically? And even if you can, it just isn't the same labor intensive industry that it was 60 years ago.

So what's the other guy's name again?
It would be nice to hear what he has to say.

Isn’t there a guy who’s challenging Russell?
What’s the story with that?

It looks like the guy challenging Russell is Tim Burns.
Russell on issues
Burns on issues

And based on that information alone, I honestly like both candidates.
But then, neither goes into detail sufficient to answer the much more pointed questions I would have regarding trade policy, taxation and related economic issues.

The GOP needs to review many of its dismal failed policies of the past several years.
Routine partisan Murtha-bashing won't cut the mustard.
