Albuquerque Tea Party was due to start at 4 pm and run until 6. By 2 pm we had lots of people there signing petitions, filling out postcards and 'notices of termination' to their elected officials and waving homemade signs!
We had a few speeches - nothing major (no big names were on hand). There was a band, some lively music, many renditions of the Star Spangled Banner and God Bless the USA, some good barbecue and fun had by all.
Not sure how many people showed up but there were large crowds for most of the time we were out there. I worked the Postcard booth and we were swamped! It was very encouraging to see the large number of people that were from 18 to about 25 or so ~ they were there in pretty good numbers and seemed well informed about what is happening in this country! They seemed to want to make a difference which was so encouraging.

" The Albuquerque Tea Party keeps flexing its muscles, drawing thousands to demonstrate against government spending at an Independence Day rally near Balloon Fiesta Park.

Organizers had hoped to double the size of the Albuquerque Tea Party's last rally, held on tax-filing day, which drew several thousand people. Tea Party officials estimated 7,000 turned out for the April 15 demonstration.
Tina Carson, a founding member of Albuquerque Tea Party, said the event Saturday drew similar numbers. A police estimate of the crowd size was not available.

Carson said the group is going to incorporate as a nonprofit and use its network to become a force against free-spending politicians.
"Our representatives truly don't realize that their constituents are about to throw them out of office," Carson said.
Demonstrators were most critical of several pieces of legislation recently in front of national lawmakers, including health care reform, the carbon "cap and trade" bill and the federal stimulus measure."

Out here on the eastern border of New Mexico, we are not privy to the news, as the powers that be have lobbied the satellite and cable companies to cut us off from New Mexico News. The eastern 1/4 of the state is heavily conservative voters and those counties have been removed from New Mexico News full length of the state. This happened about 3 years ago. If you go to Clayton, Tucumcari, Clovis etc, you get Texas television stations on satellite or cable tv. You cannot get an Albuquerque News or Santa Fe paper. By doing this, they prevent the major portion of the conservative base from knowing what is going on, and effectively prevent us from protesting their actions, or even knowing of their actions. I suspect that this is also true across the conservative southern edge of this state. Skullduggery is alive and well in New Mexico.

I’ve noticed what you said about that Concho. When I’m in Clayton, Clovis and Tucumcari for work it’s always the Texas news.
I don’t understand how they’re allowed to do that to you. It totally stinks and you do live in NM and need to know what goes on there!
