BOSTON (AP) — A Boston city councilor charged with extortion alleges the state's former U.S. attorney targeted him at the behest of former Attorney General John Ashcroft.

City Councilor Chuck Turner sent an e-mail to supporters before a court hearing Thursday suggesting Michael Sullivan sought indictments against him and former Sen. Dianne Wilkerson, another prominent black politician, because he was trying to ingratiate himself with Ashcroft — for whom he now works.

"I personally believe that former Attorney General Ashcroft said to Sullivan that if he could take down Senator Wilkerson and myself, he would put up the money to open the firm of Ashcroft and Sullivan in Boston where they could try to secure business for Halliburton to serve as a base while Sullivan prepares for his run for governor," Turner wrote.

What's so absurd about that comment isn't necessarily readily apparent at first. Sullivan would have to be a masochist to want to be a Republican Governor of Massachusetts in a state where the party no longer exists except on paper.

First Halliburton is not going to set-up business in Boston.

Second, why would Halliburton need these two dim bulbs out of the way in order to set-up shop in Boston?

If I was a reporter in Boston then I would be following Turner everyday gathering quotes. Talk about material for a comedy show.

The letter by Turner is pretty easy to figure out. It’s all part of his defense strategy. Turner is fully aware of the level of stupidity and ignorance that can fill a typical big city jury pool. The corrupt pantload is simply setting himself up for acquittal by an OJ jury. It’s Boston, Massachusetts - - he’ll get one, and he’ll walk.
