File this under: It ain't braggin' if it's true.
This weekend, Free Republic won a battle in the political and cultural wars over Sarah Palin by exposing an article published by the Huffington Post that mockingly attacked the Alaska governor and her infant son Trig over Trig being born with Down syndrome.
The exposure by Free Republic went viral to Twitter, Newsbusters and Hot Air (includes screen grab) as well as numerous blogs. The Huffington Post pulled the article within hours and issued an apology. The author of the piece of work, Erik Sean Nelson, issued his own apology via e-mail and on the Huffington Post. His claim that he pulled the article himself within ten minutes of it being posted at 6 p.m. EDT Friday, July 3, 2009, is belied by the Huffington Post editor who said it was pulled by HuffPo editors after they became aware of the brewing controversy and by an advocate for the disabled, Patricia E. Bauer, who wrote of seeing the offending article on the Huffington Post at 6:52 p.m. EDT.
A diarist at the Daily Kos wrote an entry late Friday evening Pacific Time with an accurate headline, Huffington Post gives in to Free Republic over Palin article, that provoked chaos at the Daily Kos all weekend.
Here's an excerpt of the piece as originally posted Friday evening:

Huffington Post gives in to Free Republic over Palin article
Fri Jul 03, 2009 at 09:59:34 PM PDT
On this one article it seems like Huffington Post pulled the piece because of Free Republic.
Palin Will Run in '12 on More Retardation Platform
Freepers state that they forced Huffington Post to take down and article by Erik Sean Nelson titled "Palin Will Run in '12 on More Retardation Platform"
Now I did not see the article but when you go to the link for the article, there is no article at all.
SNIP
Freepers are happy that they were able to get Huffington Post to take this article down. Sorry to link to Freepers site
That posting resulted in over a hundred comment, many of them attacking the poster and demanding he pull his article down immediately.
The Sheeping of America or a Daily Kos moderator later changed the title to Huffington Post, Free Republic and a Palin article.
On Saturday, The Sheeping of America posted a groveling apology of his own to the Daily Kos over his article about Free Republic forcing the Huffington Post to pull that offensive article:
I just wanted to apologize to any Kossacks that were offended by the diary that I posted yesterday.
There were a lot of calls to delete the diary and perhaps I should have deleted it right away.
The diary was never meant to offend anyone or pit Huffington Post against Free Republic, because of course Huffington Post would win every time.
Also, I did not mean for any Kossacks to feel under attack or believe that the diary would be used against the Kos community. This was my error and I apologize.
(Well, too late for that....) The apology goes on to talk about how "strong" the Kossacks are and concludes (I kid you not) with You Tube videos of Anita Baker singing "I Apologize" and Elton John singing "Sorry Seems to Be the Hardest Word".
Of course this posting prompted a call for the apology to be taken down:
DELETE THIS DIARY (2+ / 0-)

This is going to destroy Daily Kos.
The Freepers will quote from this and accuse us all of being whining little apologists who can't stand by our convictions.
Delete it now I tell you.

Well, he got that right.
Actually, “Kossacks” has Czarist connotations.
Make of that what you will.
LOVE IT
I am sure Sarah's attorney is making a long list of those who will be soon be looking at a court date to appear for a liable suit! GO SARAH!!
Yes, this is true but that meaning has been lost to history. My family background has a few of them.
I already have her attorney’s phone number, I found it on his official site, but I can’t find an email address..if anyone has it here please post it. Oh I can imagine he already has a huge list going, but he can’t be aware of every single vile thing being said, so it’s up to us to find everything that is considered defaming and she can sue their asses
This has been a long time coming and I am so glad to see that Republicans are not going to take it anymore. We need to see that this constant flow of vitroil can not go unchallenged. The attacks on the Palins went beyond what is acceptable and into the realm of a terrorist campaign. They are throwing out whatever charges, no matter how outrageous or untrue, just to terrorize the Palins.
It must be stopped. And we all can do are part. I have been going on political sites and responding to the critics. So please put me on your list and I will do what I can.
This politics of personal destruction that the Dems used to try to destroy Republicans like Bork, Quayle, Newt, Ashcroft, Clarence Thomas, and it goes on and on, must be addressed in public forums and challenged.
Enough is enough!
Not that its a surprise, but wow, what a bunch of butt-hurt female dogs those koskiddies seem to be.
Oh noes, we don’t want to hear the truth..it burns, it burns!!!1!
This place sounds more like the DUmp all the time. Do you actually eat with that mouth?
Interesting. ‘Our health care dollars’. Wouldn’t that be ‘their’ health care dollars? I mean they have paid into the system all their lives.
” ... apologists who can’t stand by our convictions”
That’s the Kos conviction that it’s ok to mock Down Syndrome children?
I am as always proud to be a member of Free Republic.
I’m sure Nelson will now be a featured regular on Letterman’s clusterfrak of a show. But at least all the horse sh*t will be in one stall then.
I posted a link to the FR page with the text in my blog post on the Fourth, to MAKE SURE that even if they took down the original post, there would be access to the text her on FR.
Unrelated I am curious to know if KOSsacks and DUmmies peacefully co-exist or are they enemies even being on the same side of the battlefield?
"One at a time is pretty good fishing," my old mother-in-law used to say.
This might be a good time, then, to re-institute that fine old art, letter-writing. And, the chances are very good that your paper letters will be read and noted in their logs. Put your information in a well-crafted letter and mail it to his office, and he will have it in black and white.
“Oh how they are squirming”
squirming like a bowl full of maggots!!
