MN: GOP Colleagues Ask Rep. Bachmann to End Census Boycott [but Bachmann refuses]
The Wall Street Journal - Washington Wire ^ | 2009-07-02 | Jake Sherman

Posted on 07/05/2009 9:13:25 PM PDT by rabscuttle385

Three Republicans on the House panel that oversees the Census Bureau have asked fellow GOP Rep. Michele Bachmann of Minnesota to end her plans to boycott next year’s count.

Reps. Patrick McHenry of North Carolina, Lynn Westmoreland of Georgia and John Mica of Florida issued a statement saying every elected representative has a “responsibility” to encourage participation in the 2010 Census. “Boycotting the constitutionally mandated census is illogical, illegal and not in the best interest of our country,” they stated.

. . . . .

McHenry, Westmoreland and Mica – no fans of Acorn – pointed out an “unfortunate irony” in Bachmann’s boycott, saying it “only increases the likelihood that Acorn-recruited census takers will be dispatched to her constituents’ homes. Anyone who completes and returns their census form will remove any need for a census taker to visit their residence.”

. . . . .

Bachmann spokesman Dave Dziok said the congresswoman isn’t changing her position. “We appreciate their views and hope to be able to work with them to keep Acorn – which has earned public mistrust through its repeated voter registration fraud – out of the census,” Dziok said.

I’d take her any day over Palin. Bachmann takes SPECIFIc positions but Palin (perhaps taking the advice of her neocon friend Billy Kristol) deals almost entirely in soundbites and slogans. The only specific stand she is appears to have to taken is to support more money for special needs children. Where does Palin stand on abolishing the Department of Education, the war on drugs, abolishing the Department of Energy, auditing the Fed. Nobody knows.

Bachmann 2010!

She's a female. Obama's eunuchs in his state run "media" will not allow it.

If you like Bachmann, check out Sarah Steelman in Missouri. Think "Sarah Palin with an economics degree," *and* the RLC likes her.

As long as ACORN has anything to do with it I will only be answering the same questions that Ms. Bachmann is answering. I will allow no entry to anyone, official or otherwise. I am prepared for the fine and imprisonment if necessary.

I will not be badgered; I will not be bullied. Note: I did not comply with the last census either...

You forgot that she's not liberal and not hideous. Two things that can't be allowed.

At least 70% of the Republican party = Democrat auxiliary party.
Make no mistake, that's why the country is in such a pathetic shape.

“I will allow no entry to anyone, official or otherwise. I am prepared for the fine and imprisonment if necessary.”

Census workers have no legal authority to demand entry into private property. They have a legal mandate to ask how many people live in a given residence, and that’s it.

‘I think you’ll be pleasantly surprised when your questionnaire arrives in the mail.’

No need to wait. You can check it out for yourself here:

When the form arrives, and you return it by mail, no one, ACORN or not, will darken your door.

Schmucks. The “constitutionally mandated census” is for an enumeration, not a massive invasion of privacy carried out by ACORN.

Our reps (MICA) should be telling us how they plan on running ACORN out on a rail.

Instead they’re telling us what to do in order to avoid them?

WTF?

The Bureau of the Census led me to believe that the census would be shorter and less invasive than that.

I am not going to answer anything more than the number of people in my household.

The first census was conducted by US Marshals, so I believe the precedent is there.

Here we go again with the !_@#&& republicans screwing themselves instead of the Democrats.

I refuse to participate in this ACORN farce called the census other than indicating how many people are in the house. None of it is any of the federal government’s business, for starters.

Mr. Kirk, I believe that you may have the answer to your questions in a matter of a few months.

If you do not get the answers that you want I suggest that you support the person who's answers you agree with.

At this point I do not believe either Mrs. Palin or Mrs. Bachman has announced for the presidential nomination. I know, for myself, I would whole heartedly endorse and willingly campaign and vote for either one. The are both strong conservative woman, and a damn sight better than the present scum and villainy that infest the Executive Branch.

Those beltway a**hats don't ever have the guts to acknowledge that we are only required, by the constitution, to answer the question on how many people live at our residence. She stated that fact and had dimwits call her a liar. She is not lying and, in fact, I never give any more info than what is required by law. If people come back to my door I simply say I answered the questions, please go away.

Next year may be tougher if they continue to use Acorn to take the census but I will still refuse to answer any questions I am not required to answer.

Why don't these jerks start pressuring to have Acorn disbanded instead of picking a fight with a fellow Republican. RINO ba*****s.

Bachmann is showing strength in calling attention to the madness that is going on with the radicals in charge now and will not play the game letting them go unchallenged. She is a genuine American heroine.

I'm not familiar how the very first census was taken but even so, US Marshall's fall under the Justice Department and not the Executive Branch.

Good point. I hope that void is the reason Palin is launching her Presidential run early. She has a lot of preparation and speeches to make on these issues.

We know where she stands on domestic oil and that is good. We know she is not for killing the handicapped, the unborn or the eldery and that is good. Where does she stand on everything else? Hopefully she and we will find out soon.

Still, researching the subject led me to this article:

I don’t boycott the census, I fill in the only constitutionally required question on the thing and send it back.

I TELL THEM HOW MANY US CITIZENS LIVE IN MY HOUSEHOLD, AND THAT IS ALL!

Everything else they ask is none of their damned business, and not remotely constitutional. The census is conducted constitutionally for representative apportionment, that is all. Everything else is BS.

I don’t know what congress has written into law, but the only CONSTITUTIONAL requirement for the census is to determine representative apportionment. The only question on the census that has anything to do with that, is how many us citizens live in your household.

Everything else has absolutely no constitutional justification for, and I will not answer.
