Russian Military Chief Accuses Georgia of Preparing Aggression
JamesTown ^ | June 18, 2009 | Pavel Felgenhauer

The top Russian military commander, the Chief of the General Staff and First Deputy Defense Minister Army-General Nikolai Makarov during the Paris air show this week said: "Georgia is saber-rattling and preparing weapons to resolve its territorial problems by any means." Makarov accused NATO of supporting Georgian aggressive intentions and E.U. observers of ignoring Georgian rearmament and war preparations. Makarov stated that the Russian army and the FSB Border Guards in Abkhazia and South Ossetia are preparing together with local forces and forming new military infrastructure. He confirmed that the defense ministry will permanently station "somewhat less combat troops in Abkhazia and South Ossetia" than the previously announced 3,700 soldiers in each region (RIA Novosti, June 17).

If Moscow were indeed anticipating a possible new Georgian attack, it would have been logical to place forces in forward positions to prevent a sudden assault. But if Russia itself is preparing major military action, using the accusations of Georgian aggression as a pretext, it makes practical sense not to spend resources creating large permanent military bases in Abkhazia and South Ossetia. It is much more expedient when the time for action arrives to move combat troops from permanent bases within Russia.

Like Georgia wanting to keep Abkhazia and South Ossetia which were inside their borders?

Putin still wants to move on Georgia; sounds like he’s looking for another “excuse”.

Accuse the other side of what you are doing.

Perfect! The Persian Crisis, theHunduran mess, 20,000 civilians dead in Sri Lanka and Amnesty International keeps silent, Biden and Saudi’s give a verbal okay to hit Iran, Russia wants in, North Korea is doing nasty things and has two American women in their danged prisons....wars and rumors of wars. It’s been going on for 2,000 years now and every year the whole pain of war moves expoential to Our Lord’s Spiritual timing.

Vlad, put the vodka bottle down and step away from the tank. This song is getting very old. They just accused Poland of wanting to invade Germany before World War II started. So the Polish apparently got what they deserved. Oh well, a mind is a terrible thing to waste on vodka.

“Georgia has a very tiny military force... this is nonsense from Russia.”

Nope. Standard from a hostile nation about to attack another country that hasn’t provoked them.

The aggressor creates the pretense of a causus belli, and then uses that to defend their attack of that country.

Obama put 4000 Marines in Afghanistan, and now Putin is going to cut their supply lines and escape route out unless Obama caves on SDI, or whatever the Russians ask for.

Putin met Obama, just like Kruschev met Kennedy.

Now we get to watch as the Russians threaten world war and then we’ll see what happens.

As Putin did to Bush at the Olympics, He will also do to Obama during the summit: Invade Georgia again. Of course liberals will blame Bush for this
