Sarah Palin lacks what the GOP needs most
The Republicans need a White House candidate with ideas, steadiness and the ability to unify. That's not Alaska's departing governor.
Doyle McManus July 5, 2009
Is Sarah Palin the answer the Republican Party is looking for?
Not likely. Palin's abrupt announcement that she's quitting as governor of Alaska may be part of a long-term strategy that leads to the Oval Office. But at the moment, it looks more like the impulsive act of a hot-headed politician who can't abide criticism -- poor attributes for anyone who hopes to run for president.
Take Palin at her word: She decided to quit because she didn't think she could get much done for Alaska in her remaining 18 months in office, beset as she was with ethics charges that never seemed to go away.
"My staff and I spend most of our day ... dealing with this stuff instead of progressing our state," she complained.

Oh. My. Gosh.
What stooooopid people...
Completely bass ackwards article title.
No. And that is why The Republican Party is also known as The Stupid Party.
Obviously, conservative ideas are invisible to the author of piece.
Is Sarah Palin the answer the Republican Party is looking for?
Not likely.
***********
The libs are giving advice again. lol
She isn’t dumb enough to take advice from the LA TIMS
Stupid-ass LA Times. No wonder nobody reads that rag. It's not that the charges never seemed to go away, it's that her haters filed endless frivolous charges which drag on for months and years by design.
Good for you, Sarah Palin!
At a time in American history when our liberties are under direct assault, our focus should be on how we can regain our countrys freedoms by understanding, supporting and embracing leaders who possess real character, courage, honesty, and integrity, leaders that put faith, country, and family at the forefront of their daily lives Leaders like Sarah Palin who because of her outside Washington DC politics position, has seen herself and her family mercilessly attacked by those who do not possess 1/10th of her integrity and character. We respect Sarah for taking this stand. After all, it is most apparent that Sarahs liberal adversaries are engaging in distractive techniques to prevent her from reaching the battle frontline where she would be a formidable force for the good of this country these distractive malicious attacks are similar to the devils spirit of distraction anytime a servant of the Lord attempts to follow His guidance. Hence, Sarahs advancement in a new direction is totally understandable under the circumstances and we hope that she will re-emerge in the political arena in the future. God knows this country needs leadership that holds to the values and principles that made this nation the greatest on earth.
The constant bleating of fools. Will it ever end?
And the judge of this idea is a writer for the LA Times, or a judge for the 9th Circuit....hard to tell the difference.
Maybe Doyle Smackmyanus could write a piece on what LATimes really need to prop up its sagging circulation.
The problem for The Republican Party is it has no clue.
Palin does. Just you watch.
Asshole.
Yes she lacks ideas where Government is the answer to running the every day lives of morons. Because they don’t exist.
Let’s see. Smaller, less intrusive government; stronger national security; greater freedom; less corruption; pro-life.
Naah. Those sure don’t sound like “ideas” to me!
It would be great if Sarah could own that company. Seems like defamation on each count per article against them would be great starters.
I know it’s not balls or integrity or courage. Hmmm, what could it be...
Marxism.
The L.A. Times has less than zero credibility on the subject of how to build a conservative movement in America, and which people are suitable to lead it.
The L.A. Times would drive the entire conservative movement into a ditch through deliberately bad advice, given half a chance.
She’s not electable and she is not what we need to get our country back from the hands of Marxist. We will waste a chance to get back in power. I like her, I like much of what she says but she will not be able to win the White House.
She’s not it . We need someone of almost historical proportions to turn this massive tide of leftism around.
So who does this raving idiot suggest?
First thought was what a dumb article. It doesn’t even deserve a second thought.
I have a difficult time believing that. If she didn’t have a good chance of winning another elected office or assisting others to get in that would mean Acorn would have gotten away with voter fraud again in 2010 and 2012.
LA Times! OMG, I should have known!
Not as long as there are fools.
Since this is from the Liberal LA LA Times,
it give Conservatives a good laugh and all the more
reason to support Gov. Palin.
I think she can be a great help to us , I just don’t think she is presidential material.
And just when we were expecting the LAT to endorse her.
Pray for America and Gov Palin

Doyle McManus, Columnist for the Los Angeles Times is looking out for the best interest of the GOP! /s
Let's see if this *ss can stand half the trashing that Sarah Palin has withstood. Not likely.
His brother Reed McManus, an editor at the Sierra Club Magazine
******
Let's also see if Obama can stand half the trashing Sarah Palin has received. He complains about his press coverage and all he gets are adulations and *ss kissing from them. His press secretary never answers a damn question either.
******
Why don't we all trash McManus' family and see how well he will take it!
Doyle McManus
That explains it. The sierra club. Another leg of the unholy alliance.
Sarah Palin has the one thing the Republican party doesn't have and truly needs, A CLUE!
What’s amazing is the statements of posters on FreeRepublic that seem to mirror the statements of Left wing Extremists.
Kinda makes you think, doesn’t it?
my opinion from a female POV, I believe she’s one of the best going now to shatter that glass ceiling. But of course that’s just my ‘selfish’ opinion. I’d love to see her govern and have an awesome group of people surrounding her.
It really is time for a large group of elder “statesmen/women to retire and go home. They’ve over stayed their welcome.
I have to admit, her grammar needs improvement.
Progressing our state? Sheesh.
Jay Cost, who is no big fan of Palin’s chances, put it best.
Republicans will not spend time in the wilderness looking for ideas. They will spend time in the wilderness until they find leaders to bring them back.
Palin, I suspect, is one such leader. She needs to get more on the bone to get to where Reagan was, but she has time.
She has to pay her dues, though.
Best,
Chris
Well put.
I don’t know if you added the parenthetical on the title, but the last thing Palin needs is for her supporters to try to argue that she is “no worse than Obama”.
They need to take their own advice and MOVEON.

.......
Great points. Obama for one has had nothing but the press on his side. People like a fighter and Sarah is proving herself everyday that she remains in the spotlight.
Its amazing how eager these leftist rags are to give Republicans political advise.
Sort of Hitler giving Churchill military advise.
politicians MUST never fear being sued by the deep pockets of the opposition... just for daring to run.
if this is allowed to stand, then every candidate will be targeted when opposed by deep pockets. (i still don’t understand why people are not outraged over this fact)
Liberals giving conservatives advice again?
The Repbulicans problem is not that they don’t have good ideas. It’s that they have no credibility that they will do what they promise once elected. When they had both houses and the White House they failed on Social Security and Medicare reform, energy, balancing the budget, controlling illegal immigration, etc., etc. That why the Democrats could run as supposed tax cutters and budget balances. That anyone could believe that shows how pathetic the Pub business as usual corruption has gone.
What needs to be done isn’t dependent on new ideas. What’s needed is someone who really believes all that stuff that the beltway people ridicule about smaller government and American values. Somebody with the guts to say exactly what needs to be said, and not be afraid to step on toes. And that’s Sarah Palin.
The worst is hearing the rats breathlessly explain why.
If that is true, why are they wasting so much ink across the country trying to tell us she's a loser?
If she can't possibly win the presidency, why are they so relentlessly working so hard against her candidacy?
They are afraid of her.
