I have just received the American Community Survey form from the Census Bureau. This is the replacement for the 2010 long form and is being given randomly to a certain number of households. My knee jerk reaction was to chuck it and wait for my official Census Form to come in order to only give my name, rank, and serial number. However, I started looking at what my answers to the questions would be (ie. Caucasian, US citizen, Suburban driving, self-employed professional, non-grandchild rearing, enabled not disabled) and started to think maybe my lifestyle needs to be counted. What do the freepers think?
Yes, every self-reliant non-parasite they count helps stop the socialization of our country.
I say no. Make ‘em beg for it. It’s a small piece of resistance. The data will be used exclusively to “fix” “social problems” that are non-existent, at your expense.
The other alternative it to flagrently lie about everything on it to jam the system with bad data.

There was a funny story of a man who wrote “egg” in response to all the census questions and then acted like a lunatic when an angry census worker showed up to get his information. Too bad I cant find it.
We are thinking of claiming “Native American” - both of us were born here and we ARE Americans. They’ll probably wonder how the indians got off the reservation!

Is this form anywhere on line? I’ve seen the short form but not the long.
If I get one I’m inclined to over answer each question in such twisted detail that the answer will be correct but they’ll never figure out what it is. I’d also add attachments with further detail, likewise hopelessly confusing.
I’d agree with keeping a copy.

Sorry but I must disagree. I see no reason to sully my reputation by acting like a liberal and lying to them. I will give them the information they are entitled to, nothing more and nothing less. Some census information is necessary.
Anything you say can and will be used against you.
I have had several sets of bumper stickers stolen off my Suburban. They are targeting my “Warning: I am a bitter gun owner clinging to my religion”. It has been taken 3 times while the others have named Obama as a socialist. Someone thinks I am a domestic terrorist.

I’m with you. Census intrusion will not be defeated by the good guys not participating, it will only be reined in when we have a real patriot majority in Congress again. Better to add a good-guy profile to the count and work on improving Congress.
All is fair in love and war, including deception. I consider it a false flag maneuver.

How many people living at the house. That’s it. Everything else they can figure out (if they’re half intelligent) by standing on the public sidewalk and observing the publicly viewable areas of my house.
Yes, citizenship seems reasonable. However, when blocking out the congressional districts, I thought it was not total population of that district that was determinative, not the population of voting-age individuals.

Your reply makes sense. In our case, if we received that form, we might make a case for including information about the farm.
Sort of like in “Horton hears a who ...” “We are here, we are here!”
Would hate to see all of rural American completely forgotten.
Not without extensive research; we came across it because my sister and her husband (Jewish, Israeli-American dual cit) adopted a girl from China (now Jewish, Israeli-American) 20 years ago and were baffled by the form and also by college applications that inquired into such matters.
The take-away pieces of information I got were:
1. You are whatever race you deem yourself. It is completely self-identified. The law was to over-rule the “one drop” rules related to slavery and voting.
2. If multi-racial, you can now check more than one box, but if one of the boxes is white, you are almost always deemed “white” for statistical and affirmative action purposes, especially if you check white and native american.
3. For affirmative action purposes, unless your last name is traditionally Hispanic, you are not Hispanic, no matter what you check, even if you came from Mexico and your back is still wet.
4. If you check “other,” you are white.
5. You are “Native American” for affirmative action purposes only if you have a card that states what tribe you belong to. (Apparently, there are now tribes that let you join for a price; good for them.)
I think I’m a Native American; I was born here and have never lived anyplace else. There’s a problem, though, with listing this on the census form, because you are then asked to list your tribe. Any ideas?
