Media coverage of the death of Michael Jackson has reached a fever pitch with his memorial service that is scheduled to take place this week in Los Angeles.

Fans from all over the world have registered for the chance to receive tickets to attend the event, though only 11,000 people will actually be allowed into the Staples Center.

All three networks will broadcast live coverage of the service with their prime-time attendant anchors present at the arena.

The cable news channels will feature wall-to-wall coverage of the event, too, and the memorial service will likely be the lead story on the evening news everywhere.

As we have all witnessed, numerous stories of significance involving foreign policy and domestic legislation have been shunted aside in favor of Jackson interviews, retrospectives, and specials. This is part and parcel of what our celebrity-loving country has come to expect.

Regrettably, the scenario has played out a number of times before...

11,000 from the general public will be allowed in. This is so there will be room for 11,000 hanger-on’ers like Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson to attend.

He was at best, a singer and a dancer. He was at worst, a pedophile and the poster child for bad self image and self mutilation.
The news media has revealed its own depravity and fatuousness with the coverage of his death. The Man in the Mirror reflected isn’t very pretty and anyone who had any doubts as to the vapidness of the MSM should now realize how insipid and corrupt it is.
They might label it Ebony and Ivory, but we all know black and white when we see it.

“They might label it Ebony and Ivory, but we all know black and white when we see it.”

Unfortunately, moral relativism has wiped out that distinction.

Remember when Lennon and Elvis died we did not have all the cable channels giving wall to wall coverage. If we had their deaths would been covered like MJ’s

I predict an ugly scene. Think of Pincess Di’s funeral with rioting and looting.

they keep saying, “stay away if you don’t have a ticket...” They said that at Woodstock, too. I hope the city is overrun.

MSM should now realize how insipid and corrupt it is.

Including FOX. The real problem IMO is the mindless US public. If one station stops MJ coverage for 10 minutes to cover real news, it will lose ratings points.

I hope they can bury MJ before congress sneaks in Stimulus 2.

Shame on Fox. I would think that their demographics would not be very interested in much MJ coverage. The idea of Fair and Balanced is so out of whack. Fair and Balanced would be coverage of true American heroes...our men and women in uniform who have sacrificed the ultimate for our country during the Independence Day weekend, not some strange beyond the pale media creation. MJ is nothing but a media phenomenon. He sang what others wrote, he danced what others choreographed, his music is heavily orchestrated and electronic, even his voice is enhanced artificially. It is no wonder that he thought he needed to change his appearance when his talent is really contrived.
I do believe that in many ways he is a true American tragedy. Young boy pushed to the limit in pursuit of fame. He did not acquire fame and fortune in the true spirit of American hard work and diligence. A boy catapulted to fame before he was in double digits of age has no real contribution to his own success...he is groomed and trained like a performing animal. He is a tragedy of emphasizing all the wrong things.

Fox talking heads (O'Reilly etc.) said last night that they tried to cover real news but then their ratings started to go down.

This is the way the world ends: This is the way the world ends: This is the way the world ends: Not with a bang but a whimper.

They lose a lot of credibility as a news source when they say they cover things only for ratings. Sure they have to pay the bills, but Fox had consistently been clobbering the other stations in ratings recently. A week of real news would have been refreshing rather spending time paying tribute and homage to a freak that everyone else was doing. Why would anyone turn to Fox when the other networks are so much more savvy at entertainment news? Frankly, I don't believe O’Reilly. About thirty plus years ago, I read that when the news anchors and newspapermen became famous, that the news would become secondary to their personalities. I think Bill O’Reilly epitomizes that thought.

Why would we consider any “news” source news when they only air those things that elevate ratings? News is news. These people do not think outside the box, pun intended.
