Gun-Wielding Men Posing as Police Invade Three Homes
Washington Post ^ | Tuesday, July 7, 2009 | Matt Zapotosky

Posted on 07/08/2009 4:17:48 AM PDT by grjr21

Armed with handguns and posing as police, a group of men yesterday invaded three homes in Prince George's County, binding the occupants and demanding money and in one case a flat-screen TV, police said.

The intruders first hit a red brick apartment building in District Heights, cuffing a woman with plastic bindings and asking her where she kept her money, according to the woman's account. Next they moved to a two-story home in Glenarden, disregarding the alarm company security sign in the front yard as they broke in, police said.

The victims were lucky that they weren't assaulted by real police. At least they escaped with their lives

All we need now across the country is citizens standing their ground when police show up especially is accidental cases of a SWAT team being sent to the wrong address, and granny pulls out an Uzi, or some tech dudes use homemade claymores. Only by reason I live in a small rural area in Alaska that I know basically if my local law enforcement is real or not is that I have minimal worry.

The police had better make targeting the faux police their highest priority, or else.

Somehow I think of this of a preview of Obama's proposed Youth Corps.

This bears repeating!!! Also, no-knock raids should be reserved for the relatively few situations where they are necessary, so the law-abiding can know a home invasion is not a mistaken warrant service.

Your last paragraph is the most pathetic, vulgar personal attack I have seen posted in quite a while here at FR.

“It’s asinine comments like yours that helps gives conservatives a bad name.” - your own words apply to you very appropriately.

Your words rank right up there with Letterman’s, IMO. Shame on you!

Unless I somehow missed it, all I read about their dress was the brandishing of handguns. So, were they dressed like a SWAT team (easy to do) with black "tactical" vests, black ski masks? Interesting that there's no mention (that I can see in this article) on how they were dressed or maybe what kind of vehicle they were in (if seen).

This is one of my pet peeves about LE wearing masks, they should always be identifiable, always. Undercover is different, but bona fide cops always in complete uniform, name tags and NO MASKS.

The mask fetish of these SWAT teams is peculiar. Even the KGB/NKVD and other totalitarian police agencies managed to function without masks. Mask usage is more characteristic of groups such as Muslim and Communist terrorists and the Ku Klux Klan.

What I find pathetic, and confirms for me the type of person that posts here, is the fact that over and over, the Police here are compared to NAZIS and are constantly being attacked. These attacks go unanswered. Yet when the Freeper who attacks the person who posts these stupid, asinine anti-cop threads, they get attacked!!

My response results from the absolute frustration of reading so many anti cop statements and the lack of challenge from other FReepers. I really do worry that I’ve been posting on an anti-Govt. site w/o realizing it.

I will, as another suggested, de-join FR and look for another Conservative site. I joined here to engage in serious banter with like-minded conservatives and have enjoyed doing so. But these vile, vulgar, and pathetic attack on LEO’s that have been occurring more and more have ruined this place for me. Some good friends and relatives of mine are LEO’s so EXCUSE ME if I get just a little tired of reading this crap over and over.

“It’s asinine comments like yours that helps gives conservatives a bad name”—”It’s not the Polices’ fault that you probably grew up in a dysfunctional home and had a bad relationship with your Father. Nor is it their fault that your wife probably left you after another failed copulation attempt. Try coming up for air from your basement in ‘occupied GA’ and make an attempt at getting a life loser”

Take a look in your mirror to see a two faced, demeaning hypocrite.

“This is one of my pet peeves about LE wearing masks, they should always be identifiable, always.”

As this article reveals, it is easy to pose as police executing a no-knock warrant. Crooks can get the gear to do this easily. Anybody can get hats & shirts with “POLICE” emblazoned on them - cheap. The mask is irrelevant unless the victim happens to know everybody on the police force. Seeing their face still gives me no clue whether they are good guys or bad guys.

It is not possible to properly identify yourself as police during the chaotic few seconds of a no-knock warrant entry.

The victims here are in a helpless situation, even if armed. They have only seconds to determine if it REALLY is Police, thru a solid door. Once the door is knocked down, they have 2 options. Either start shooting & hope it is the BAD guys, or don't shoot & hope it is the Police. If they guess wrong, they're likely dead.

Law abiding citizens should not have to make this terrible choice. If Police would stop doing no-knock warrants except in extremely rare & dangerous circumstances, then people would have no doubt about what to do: Fill the intruders with lead.

I don't care for it either... But, over the past few years, police departments all across the country have been reduced into revenue gathering union employees, duped into becoming private property confiscation agents for corrupt courts or worse.

The bureaucratic hiring practices weed out all of the good ones with politically correct psychological profiling.

Instead of getting Rick Hunters, T.J. Hookers, Dirty Harrys, Cordell Walkers or Joe Fridays we get "diversity" or the police chief of San Francisco...

If your relatives who work in law enforcement are good people, then you should feel no insult an *other* police being compared with Nazis. But, by all means... leave. Were I a moderator, your home page would've already been reduced to a smoldering "account banned or suspended" message for that last ad hominem insult.

Before you go, let me ask you something.

Whose “side” were you on during to riots in Iran? The POLICE & government paramilitaries, who beat & murdered peaceful protesters, or the people who protested a rigged election?

Many here at FR, myself included, believe the Police are increasingly becoming the tool of the ruling class to criminalize & enslave the population, much as the Nazis did in the 30s, & just as Iran is doing now.

Given the increasingly violent methods the police employ to enforce the increasingly onerous laws - no-knock searches being a prime example, is it any wonder that even reasonable people consider the police part of the problem, rather than a solution.

When we see the police used to take our property & trample our freedoms & privacy, then they rightly lose our support. When the police arrest the Christians, while protecting the perverts, they lose my respect.

But hey, they are just “doing their job”, Right? Well, so were the Iranian police & so was the Gestapo. No thought to what is right or wrong, just doing the job. Gotta protect that paycheck & that pension!

They are Obama’s police now (actually, they have been for many years). You just haven't been violated by them yet, but you will. When they come for your home, guns, light bulbs, or home-schooled children, try to remember these are the “good” guys.

Some folks, aware of history, know where this is all heading. Some folks don't.

You have been here at FR for 5 years. You should know the rules prohibit personal attacks. And they make you look real bad. I've done it a few times, & regretted it. I'm trying to learn to just punch my wife a few times whenever I get flustered. :)

We don't “attack” fellow FReepers, we “attack” their words & ideas. BIG DIFFERENCE!

You may not like it out there in LaLa Land. Trading personal insults doesn't do much but raise the blood pressure.

There is a huge difference between being anti-law enforcement (like the criminal Left) and being pro constitutional - which Free Republic, according to it’s mission statement, is.

Some police leaders and officers are not good guys; most probably are good guys (your relatives included).

Some police leadership and tatics are unconstitutional and disrespectful of free, law abiding people. Some police officers (not many) think they are the punishers of alleged criminals and they are caught on tape a lot lately.

With the patriot act and with the politicans continuing disrespect of the constitution, some are using and training police officer for unconstitutional practices and unprofessional attitudes.

It is just as bad to mindlessly support everything police officers and their supervisors do as it is to mindlessly hate them. I don’t see mindless hatred here for all cops. I do see - FROM ME! - anger when they violate the constitutional rights of citizens or act unprofessional or disrespectful of people.

I have had encounters with disrespectful, unprofessional cops three times in the past year and I am not uncooperative nor am I a law breaker. I always use “yes, sir” and “no sir” when adddressing an officer of the law. It is getting out of hand...it’s unAmerican.

If they don’t stop themselves from “progressing” towards a third world state of behavior and tatics, society should legally treat violators as traitors to the constitution. Any good cop would agree and I know a couple who are freaked out at the sight and sound of some of the beasts on their force. Your relatives probably agree!

Yes, thank you Mister Da, I have witnessed no-knock entries growing in scope over the last decade, I saw it while I was still in LE, I knew it was wrong then (except in very rare or extreme cases) and I still do.

I would say that about 95% do not require a full scale house assault team entry.

About LE being identifiable. I agree that LE gear is easy to get and cheap but this fad of wearing “tactical” masks is out of hand. No room for it in civilian LE.

I still work within the criminal court system so it gives me the opportunity to weigh both sides in many cases. I didn’t turn into a rabid, starry-eyed defense attorney either although I have sure gotten know some good ones with a balanced point of view.

According to the Constitution, a government agent who breaks into a dwelling in an unreasonable fashion does so without any legal authority. Such an agent is a burglar (and, depending upon his other actions and consequences thereof, possibly also a robber, murderer, etc.) I'm not sure why robbers should be equated to Nazis; at least the latter operated legitimately.

Unfortunately, the totalitarian anarchists who infest our government have convinced a lot of people that anything the government does is Constitutional unless or until the Supreme Court declares otherwise. Never mind that the Constitution lists itself, rather than Supreme Court rulings, as the Supreme Law of the Land.
