Jeb Bush: The Future of the Republican Party

Jeb Bush interview, Biltmore Hotel, Coral Gables, Florida.
The scene: Lunchtime at Jeb Bush's modest office just outside Miami. Just Tucker and Jeb, no one else in sight. Sandwiches. Jeb, only fifty-six, the smarter Bush boy, a good governor, with a great many people expecting that he's not yet finished, but after passing on the chance to run for Mel Martinez's Senate seat earlier this year, there's not an obvious path back to power for him. And his party is a shambles. Obama strides the globe like a colossus, Specter is days away from jumping, and Congressman Eric Cantor's sad rebranding effort is about to launch to no fanfare at a pizza parlor somewhere in Virginia. What will become of the once (and recently) great Republican party? And what role will one of its brightest stars one of its only stars play in its future?

It's a pretty wide-ranging interview covering many topics. Could Jeb emerge as a presidential candidate? Will Palin, Romney and Bush be the three primary candidates?
To: teddyballgame
No thank you Jeb. Go do something productive with your life.

Ummm, no, I’m done with Bushes. They talk a good line but in the end, they disappoint.
Bush 41:
- Read my lips, no new taxes (read between the lines, new taxes)
- David Souter, Supreme Court Justice
Bush 43:
- Bank bailouts
- Ramos and Compean
- Immigration reform
Although every president fails on some point or another, I’ve about had it with the Bushes.

Another Bush — another nonstarter.

Outside of his family name, he is the perfect candidate for the GOP. It is too bad. GWB really ruined a lot of things during his second term by refusing to wage any sort of competent public relations efforts. Most of his decisions were right on, but his name is mud, as is the family name. I am big supporter of W, but it is really depressing to see the wasted opportunities that resulted from four years of ineffective appointments, lack of media plan, and abandonment of limited govt.

What about this bizarre scenario unendorsed by Obama:
It’s Romney’s turn to LOSE in 2012
It’s “Jebbie’s” turn to LOSE 2016 to Hillary!
To: teddyballgame
Bush, Romney, Huckabee, Gingrich, Guiliani, McCain, - these are yesterday’s news. These people represent everything that is wrong with the Republican party today. They truly are LOSERS - and they have lost it for the American people. Because of them, we have Obama now.
Yesterday’s rules don’t apply anymore. It’s a whole new ballgame. If the GOP insists on keeping it’s tradition of running the “next person in line” - I will be through with them forever & so will a whole lot of people. Those days are over.

Jeb Bush is the only Bush worth a damn. He would have made a much better president than his brother (or his father, for that matter).
His brother has destroyed the Bush name to such an extent that Jeb will never have a chance to at this point.

Only if the GOP is determined to throw away another election.
GW left a bad taste for too many.

Jeb to push for immigration reform (Jeb Bush and the Council on Foreign Relations)
|
| |
Miami Herald ^ | 07/07/09 | Miami Herald
Jeb Bush will be back in DC this week to present a Council on Foreign Relations-sponsored report on immigration policy that calls for a path to legalization for illegal immigrants -- a position shared by his brother, former president George W. Bush. The task force -- co-chaired by Bush and Mack McLarty, former President Bill Clinton's chief of staff -- argues that "the failure to reform immigration laws and procedures threatens to harm America's economy, jeopardize its diplomacy, and weaken its national security." The report urges Congress and the Obama administration to undertake a new effort with three central components:...

Jeb is a globalist who received money and influence from his brothers administration to promote the FTAA and the integration of Canada and Mexico with the US. He also received huge amounts of money for the Bush administration ethanol scam which was sent out of country to Brazil and South America through the Inter-American Ethanol council.
The republican party is corrupt and has only corrupt globalists to run for office. They need a new dance card if they, and America is to survive.

Jeb is a good fellow, I’m sure. He might even have a role to play in the future of the GOP...just as long as he understands that, for reasons that should be obvious to him, to Tuck, and to all concerned, that role is not going to be as a presidential candidate any time soon.

To: mc6809e
I agree with your political assessment of JEB’s potential. I don’t necessarily agree with your prediction that he will never be in a position to win the presidency.
One sure way to rehabilitate a loser is to place in power an even bigger loser. Obama will prove himself to be every bit the loser George Bush was, and more. And if things remain as they are, Obama will gain this perception long before 2010 — plenty of time for JEB to seriously think about the presidency, if for no other reason than to restore the family name.
However, I really don’t see how JEB could possibly run against Sarah Palin in 2012 and still hope to win the presidency. He may be able to do it if Palin decides to play the part apparently assigned to her by the RNC, as recently expressed by RNC Chairman Michael Steele. But if she decides to play by her own rules, JEB’s 2012 presidential aspiration is toast, along with a few other “moderate” Republicans.

Most of the young people who claim to prefer socialism have never beeb made aware of it's impact on individual autonomy. They think they can have all the perks and continue to enjoy a hedonisitc lifestyle. The Obamas and Clintons paint glowing pictures, and avoid all the nasty details.
At some point in the socialist game government has to clamp down on things, and the velvet glove comes off.
