DHS tries to take children away from homeless Iraq Vet after car/tent accident

MUSKEGON, Mich. (WOOD) - Daniel Nichols, who accidentally ran over his 5-year-old son while the boy lay sleeping in a tent, says the state is threatening to take away his children.

A Muskegon County Department of Human Services worker visited Nichols' wife Thursday at the hospital, where his son is recovering, and told her a campground was no place for children to live, Nichols told 24 Hour News 8.

"She went to the hospital and told my wife that she doesn't think it's acceptable for us to be staying in the campground, which we weren't staying in the campground, we were just camping for a week or so, and then we were going to get a kitchenette," Nichols said.

Nichols' son, Mason, is recovering at Spectrum Health Butterworth Hospital in Grand Rapids. Mason suffered no permanent injuries, though he has fluid in one of his lungs, Nichols said.

"My son is going to be fine; he's smiling; he's happy about it," he said. "He knows Daddy's sorry. He tells me all the time -- I was there all day yesterday -- 'Be strong, Dad. It's OK. It was an accident. It was an accident. It's not your fault.' "

Nichols, his wife, Ardist, and their children, Mason, and Jasmine, 2, started staying in a 9-by-12-foot tent at the P.J. Hoffmaster State Park campground in late June -- on a rustic site, with no electricity -- for $18 a day.

They had no place else to stay, he said.

This is what those evil people at Child Protection Services do.

They steal the children of the weakest among us so that they can run their children mills and have a new supply of kids for the gays.

As the economy implodes, this will increase. They don’t want to lose their CPS jobs.

The social workers are ready for the feast. As people become unemployed and lose income sources, these scum of the earth will come and take your kids. And of course, you have no money so you have no resources for a lawyer.

BTW: When children are taken away, court appointed lawyers have one interest: give the judge whatever he wants, give the social workers whatever they ask for. Kangaroo courts in action. Even a paid lawyer has to be viewed with suspicion, especially one that is buddies with the other court appointed lawyers.

*SNORT*. People pay a lot of money to live in tents, to camp out with no electricity or running water. For God’s sake, our cabin in Maine has no running water - we lug it up from the lake and have graduated from an outhouse to a composting toilet - and we’ve spent every summer there for 4 generations now. During the Depression, hundreds of families lived in campgrounds while parents were on the move looking for work. Is it ideal? Is it a place you want your family to live indefinitely? Of course not. How about helping the family obtain some basic housing instead of taking the kids away?

The last thing that the clueless CPS workers want is a happy intact family.

Their jobs DEPEND on taking children away.

WORTH REPEATING

It has happened to our grandchildren. 16 months an counting. Total family lock out based on social worker lies.

Par for the course with the Dept of Human Services in MI. I used to work closely with them when I was a prosecutor in MI and had many a shouting match with a crazy social worker who did not understand that the rules of evidence or the fact that there was nothing there to take the kids away. Further, they try to take kids away to keep the foster care system greased.

We [the FReepers] need to come to this family's defense. I am a disabled veteran & was homeless living in a camper for a summer [and I was hospitalized as well during that time] and we felt that nobody gave a rat's rear end about us! We never felt more alone than at that time!

If he is a disabled veteran, then the DAV or any of the service org.'s should be able to step in & help out& and ; start the paper work on getting his disabilities payments going! We need to step up as a community to take care of one of our own! SEMPER FI & carry on!

I completely agree with you, except I think it's a new supply of kids for anyone who can pay their price.

And many here will say you're overstating the case, but that is EXACTLY what they do: they steal the children of the weakest, for their children mills. I personally know several families who have been targeted by CPS.

Sounds like he's disabled ~ partly as a consequence of a large piece of ordnance blowing up near him.

Summertime in Michigan is usually OK outdoors ~ I've paid good money to camp there like that.

He needs more than that though.

Sure there are churches, but they don't always hear of needy situations. Often churches don't even hear of the needs within their own congregations.

Not to be critical and I know you didn't mean it that way, but that sounds like Scrooge:

'Are there no prisons?"

'Plenty of prisons,' said the gentleman, laying down the pen again.

'And the Union workhouses.' demanded Scrooge. 'Are they still in operation?'

'Both very busy, sir.'

'Oh. I was afraid, from what you said at first, that something had occurred to stop them in their useful course,' said Scrooge. 'I'm very glad to hear it.'

Self Ping

We [the FReepers] need to come to this family's defense.

I'll watch the thread (or if anyone starts a ping list, please include me). If someone sets up some sort of relief fund or whatever and I can help, let me know. As a father of a young son and former Marine myself, this breaks my heart. ACORN can overrun the system with welfare but we do nothing for those who defend our constitution when they are in need. Disgusting what we have become.

Happened to us as well, but only for 3 months, then they were returned to my custody. But it took a family court judge ordering them to do it - they had no intentions of ever doing it on their own.

The lead Supervisor was geniunely irritated and curt with me when they were ordered to return the children. They’re scum - and they’re on the prowl.

Children have been taken from parents in my area because of a minimum standard of living regulation that requires running water in every household (part of a big developers’ racket—no vacation cabins for camping). Several parents have reported that their children were permanently taken away for no other reason, and those parents appear to be clean, educated, sober, hard working, normal,... ...matter of fact, they’re less apathetic and more clean (no drugs) than most other people around here (including the bureaucrats and their relatives and friends on meth).

So go ahead, and raise the stakes. Elect more domestic violence feminists and SNAGs (sensitive New Age guys) into government offices in attempts to herd Americans into bipartisan, anti-family votes.

In general, kids are better off in the custody of their parents than the bureaucrats and their out-of-touch, rich, adopting relatives (lefties—same thing). We need a sea change in business, government and academic leadership.

It is also a common tactic of ex boyfriends/girlfriends/ husbands/wives. For revenge they will call CPS for anything to pull a family apart just to get revenge.

They are worse than scum, and be glad they did not keep checking up/fabricating stuff on you. Then they have a “pattern” and the next judge might not have been quick to return your kids.

I have seen DSS workers lie in court, falsify records, take things completely out of context on purpose...any and every thing they can do to keep a child in the system they will do. They are evil incarnate, and for money...

In North Carolina, as of 1999, they receive about $1100 from the federal government each month for each child in foster care. They only pay out about $400 to the foster family. They are profiting $700 per month per child! No wonder there is no incentive to keep families whole—there’s no money in it!!

>>be glad they did not keep checking up/fabricating stuff on you.<<

They still are, monthly. “Unannounced visits”. I just keep things wired tight and spotless.

In another local case, they removed a child because they found “animal feces” on the floor. In reality, it was wood shavings from the hamster cage.

In addition to the money, they’re brainwashed into thinking that what they do is “for the good of everyone” - which makes them some sort of savior to the public. It’s insane.

Always loved that Dickensian wisdom. It tells us that doing good is not to be left to the other fellow. Every one of us has to practice it, as if the Lord doesn’t want to waste a single soul. Nobody was put here to leave His work to “someone else.”
