Just a brief stop before I go to bed with Frank (six weeks old!) to remember my father, Bill Wright. Two years in Vietnam, 28 years in the U.S. Navy. 73 years with us and counting (even if he doesn’t remember much of the last few).
And a prayer request for his oldest grandchild, FReeper Anoreth, who broke her foot in Coast Guard basic training and is stuck in the injury unit plotting her novel.
God bless America and all our vets!

No rains yet Hope.....we have had some monsoon clouds, thunder & winds but none of the wet stuff to speak of.
We need rain soooooo badly!
It’s so hot & seems no amount of irrigation is keeping the grass green enough.
I’m feeling a bit wilted myself!;-)

Thanks for the touching images, and good information.
I have been to the Memorial in Washington several times since it was constructed.
My first impression when I saw it at night more than 20 years ago was that it was different than all of the other monuments in the DC area.
It is black, it is built in a depression in the ground and one does not look up to it but rather downward until one is very close, and there is (in my experience) an energy in the area that is unlike any other in the area.
The Viet Nam Memorial certainly has always caused me to be pensive when I have been in its vicinity.
I have been to a number of places in this Country and outside, but the charged atmosphere in the shadow of the Lincoln Memorial is quite distinctive.

The kids got some last week south of Tucson . . . they’re harvesting peppers, toms and squash, lucky them. We are in severe drought conditions here in south Central Texas. its been over a 100 for weeks with no rain and no end in sight . . . sigh! It’s going to take a Hurricane to shift this high pressure system sitting over us . . . sorry for the “H” word coasties . . . ;-)

Tucson and points north and east had severe storm warnings last night, the kids should definitely have gotten wet! From here, it looks like they are going to get it again tonight.
I live about 22 miles east and 30 miles south of them.
If they aren’t getting wet, then the storms are between us!

Thanks for the thread. I am as many of you know a Vietnam era veteran. Note the “era” word there. We flew around the outskirts and never had to do what those brave men and women who were on the ground did. Those of you and the families of VN combat vets deserve our special attention and our undying thanks.
My best and most heartfelt salute.
