Watch Who You’re Calling a Liar (Panetta orders internal probe of secret spy program)

Panetta orders internal probe of secret spy program after some members of Congress say CIA misled them.

###

CIA Director Leon Panetta has ordered an internal inquiry into the agency's handling of a contentious and still highly classified intelligence program that has caused a heated dispute between the CIA and Democrats on the House intelligence committee.

The move by Panetta appears to be an implicit acknowledgment by the agency that it should have disclosed information about the post-9/11 secret program to Congress much earlier than it did.

*snip*

CIA and congressional officials have refused to describe the nature of the covert program, but insisted it is not connected to the CIA's use of controversial "enhanced" interrogation techniques.

But the program's existence erupted into a major political dispute Wednesday night when seven Democrats on the House intelligence committee released a letter charging that the agency had "concealed significant actions" and "misled" members of Congress by failing to inform the oversight committees about the program until last month.

The Democrats demanded that Panetta "publicly correct" his statement of May 15 declaring that "it is not our policy or practice to mislead Congress."

Damn them ... very cunning how this was set up and is being couched and portrayed. I think they were aiming to do this 'investigation' all along, and Isikoff and the vengeful libs are drooling.

Typical of brazen libs. Isikoff was responsible for a lot of violence in Pakistan / Afghanistan riots, which broke out after his phony story on Gitmo guards flushing the Koran down a toilet.

This scum should be defending himself in court instead of instigating attacks against our intelligence apparatus.

As I read it, Panetta found out about this
‘program’ that was considered after 9/11
but never really implemented and spilled
it to Congress ... now this.

Insanity.

They’ll try to use this to wander far from
this issue I’ll bet ... their eternal targets
are Pres. Bush and VP Cheney.

I’m not so sure yet. The republicans that were there sure don’t seem ‘scared’ of this little political ploy by the dems. In fact, they seem like they want an investigation. What bother me is that Panetta is being coy with his ‘internal investigation’ and Newsweek(as usual) is misleading the public.

Thanks for the ping.

A little background on Leon Panetta, Obama's CIA Chief...

"In April 1985 [Leon] Panetta joined with 13 of his leftist congressional colleagues — including Ron Dellums, Don Edwards, George Miller, Christopher Dodd, and Les Aspin — in sponsoring a 20th anniversary fund-raising gala for the pro-Marxist Institute for Policy Studies (IPS), which had been described by Brian Crozier, director of the London Institute for the Study of Conflict, as the "perfect intellectual front for Soviet activities which would be resisted if they were to originate openly from the KGB." The IPS was originally funded with millions of dollars from the Faberge perfume magnate and Communist Party member Samuel Rubin and his wife."

"Readers who recall the movement to impeach Bill Clinton remember that one of the charges raised by Clinton's critics was the conflict of interest created when individuals connected with the Chinese Overseas Shipping Company (COSCO) — such as John Huang, Charles Trie, and James and Mochtar Riady — helped funnel contributions to the Clinton reelection campaign. Afterwards, the Clinton administration lobbied for granting COSCO a 10-year lease on the former Long Beach Naval Shipyard in California.

During a March 1997 edition of CNBC's Equal Time program, California Republican State Senator Dick Mountjoy noted that COSCO-linked arms dealer Wang Jun had been granted personal access to President Clinton, and that Wang's business associates had smuggled illegal assault weapons into California for delivery to street gangs by making use of a ship owned and operated by COSCO.

Mountjoy then stated:

The next thing you know, (then-Chief of Staff) Leon Panetta is down here negotiating that port for the Chinese.

There is much more to the COSCO-Long Beach connection than we have room for here, but a good summary of the threat the arrangement made to U.S. security may be found in an item inserted into the Congressional Record by Rep. Gerald B.H. Solomon on May 20, 1997.

Even the most unbiased of observers may legitimately ask: Why on Earth is an individual who helped negotiate the turnover of the Long Beach Naval Shipyard to the communist Chinese, thereby creating the threat to U.S. national security described in the Washington Times article by Rowan Scarborough and inserted into the Congressional Record by Rep. Solomon, being considered for a top position at one of our nation's most critical intelligence agencies?"

Obama’s Agenda for Change and the 2009 Summit of the Americas

excerpt:

'Yes We Can' — Change for the Americas Coming from Below

Hemispheric resistance to the first attempt by the U.S. to force the Free Trade Area of the Americas (FTAA) on every nation on this continent led to its eventual defeat at the IV Summit of the Americas, held in Argentina in 2005. The organizers of the April 2009 V Summit of the Americas had hoped to focus on a social agenda of providing a decent living for all those who call the “Americas” their home. The emergence of the PPA, or Bush’s Plan B for the FTAA, represents a threat to the urgent need of having all nations in the hemisphere focus on tackling the disparities that make the region the most unequeal in the world.

According to Obama, “what's good for the people of the Americas is good for the United States.” Among the specific proposals Obama has made (political freedom and democracy; freedom from fear and security; freedom from want and opportunity) in the “New Partnership for the Americas” document, he says that “it’s time for a new alliance of the Americas” that leaves behind “eight years of failed policies” and “top down reforms”, and puts forward instead an “agenda that advances democracy, security, and opportunity from the bottom up”. For Obama to make good on his vision for a new "partnership" in the Americas, the divisive Bush PPA initiative must be laid to rest well before the April V Summit of the Americas gets underway.

The 2009 IV Peoples’ Summit in Trinidad and Tobago

On April 17-19, 2009, the IV Peoples Summit will be taking place in Port of Spain, Trinidad (while heads of state are simultaneously meeting at the V Summit of the Americas). The message of a "change agenda" for the hemisphere will be brought to the island nation by social movements coming from all points in between Alaska and Tierra del Fuego. A key focus for discussions during the People’s Summit will be the economic meltdown hitting the capitalist system, and the opening that this provides for the implementation of a peoples’ agenda promoting sustainable development, social justice, equity, and peaceful coexistence.[ie, communism/socialism -etl]

In conjunction with the Hemispheric Social Alliance, social movements present in Trinidad and Tobago will be providing a "change agenda" that, in large measure, will likely be echoed by representatives from many of the newly elected governments in Latin America and the Caribbean. The V Summit of the Americas will be an ideal setting for Obama to signal a new respectful and consultative role for the US in the Americas as well. Will Obama avail himself of the opportunity to take this courageous step forward? Ojalá!

Profile: Institute For Policy Studies (IPS)

IPS’s [Institute For Policy Studies] Washington, DC headquarters quickly became a resource center for national reporters and a place for KGB agents from the nearby Soviet embassy to convene and strategize. Cora Weiss headed one of the IPS's most successful forays -- into Riverside Church in Manhattan. She was invited there in 1978 by the Reverend William Sloane Coffin to run the church's Disarmament Program, which sought to consolidate Soviet nuclear superiority in Europe -- in the name of "peace." In 1982 Weiss helped organize the largest pro-disarmament demonstration ever held. Staged in New York City, the rally was attended by a coalition of communist organizations. During her decade-long tenure at Riverside, which became home to the National Council of Churches, Weiss regularly received Russian KGB agents, Sandinista friends, and Cuban intelligence agents. Weiss became infamous for her role in the psychological warfare conducted against U.S. prisoners of war held in the infamous "Hanoi Hilton" during the Vietnam War.

The Liberation News Service, which is a news source for hundreds of "alternative" publications nationwide (with antiwar, Marxist-oriented perspectives), was founded in 1967 with IPS assistance."

House Democrats inserted language in a pending intelligence-authorization bill requiring the broader congressional oversight by requiring all members of the intel committees to be informed about secret activities. On Wednesday, in a surprise move, Obama said he would not sign the bill unless the language was stripped out.

If they can actually get our warrior CIA analysts

It’s too serious of a job for that kind of crap. Panetta is a lowlife, ‘RAT politician. He needs to be doing politician crap where your major screwups do not put other people’s lives at risk.

by failing to inform the oversight committees about the program

Hells bells, if every agency is required to 'inform oversight committees' about every program that is set up but never used they are going to need a few million more 'interns' to read everything. Congress members don't even read what they are required to read as it is!

It is all smoke and mirrors to cover Pelosi's butt!

Secret Program Fuels CIA-Congress Dispute - Leon Panetta canceled the CIA program when he found out about it.

By Paul Kane and Ben Pershing
Washington Post Staff Writers
Friday, July 10, 2009

Excerpt:

Four months after he was sworn in, CIA Director Leon E. Panetta learned of an intelligence program that had been hidden from Congress since 2001, a revelation that prompted him to immediately cancel the initiative and schedule a pair of closed-door meeting on Capitol Hill.

*snip*

Some Republicans, meanwhile, privately questioned whether Panetta — who has stood with CIA officers in a dispute with House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) — was looking to score points with House Democrats.

The program remains classified, and those knowledgeable about it would describe it only vaguely yesterday. Several current and former administration officials called it an “on-again, off-again” attempt to create a new intelligence capability and said it was related to the collection of information on suspected terrorists that was instituted after the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks.

It had better, or this will blow up in all of our faces. It never ceases to amaze me how Democrats are perfectly OK with damaging our national security to further their partisan ambitions.

With this behavior they set up a situation where the intelligence community will become motivated to do what they are falsely accused of doing: keeping the Dem Congress in the dark in order to keep those a..holes from spilling the beans on our intelligence practices.

Great post. I didn't know any of that about the highly overrated phony moderate Panetta.

I do know this: in the early days of the Clinton administration, I saw him and Laura Tyson on Meet the Press arguing against balanced budgets. Then the Republicans took over congress, forced a sort of balanced budget on Clinton, and Panetta has been taking credit for Democrat "fiscal conservatism" ever since. He even has an institute based on this lie.

Step 1. Fabricate useful myths, make unfounded and even outrageous allegations against the United States and about those agencies and instruments of conventional US policy which are a barrier to your group's acquisition of power and ability to influence US policy. ...

Step 2. After you win an election, install your operatives as directors of these agencies so they will be accepted as credible authority figures and not as the threat they are to national security...

Step 3. Have your new directors fire or marginalize those agency employees whose compliance with your agenda cannot be guaranteed...

Step 4: Have your new directors promote those employees who share your ideology or agenda, or hire additional ones as needed to ensure all departments have a "minder" for all other staffers and control over the flow of information out of those agencies and to supress potential contrary leaks.

Step 5 : Have your new directors conduct "investigations" and "kangaroo hearings" to set the stage for the hit, and use installed or known compliant staffers as "witnesses" to the events - real or fictional- in your allegations to provide bait and fodder for the press to carry your message.

Step 6 : Have your new directors with their new "credibility" confess to and apologize for the allegations you desire the American people to accept as "fact." Repeat as needed until the public cries out for an overhaul, a purge or even elimination of the targeted agency or policy.

Note that one of the authors of this piece was deported from the UK for being a security risk.

* Agee & Hosenball : The Labour government had a chequered record on freedom of information. Whilst there was a clear commitment in the 1974 party manifesto for a FoI Act and to "place the burden on public authorities to justify withholding information" the government's instincts seemed to be more towards controlling and suppressing information. For example, it. . .also deported two Americans, Standard journalist Mark Hosenball and Philip Agee, a former CIA operations officer, on the grounds they were security risks. --------Response by the Campaign for Press and Broadcasting Freedom to the Freedom of Information Bill via 31 posted on 05/19/2005 2:27:44 PM PDT by Fedora | To 29 |

1974 to 1994 + : (IPS WORKS WITH COMMUNIST FRONT ORGANIZATIONS TO BUILD NETWORK TO NEUTRALIZE US INTELLIGENCE) During the past twenty years, the IPS has worked with Communist front organizations in building a network for the neutralization of US intelligence. In 1974, the Fund for Peace established the Center for National Security Studies (CNSS), which has worked closely with the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) in pursuing political and legal challenges against US intelligence. Staff and leadership for the CNSS have been drawn almost entirely from the IPS and the National Lawyers Guild (NLG); the NLG is the American branch of the Soviet-controlled International Association of Democratic Lawyers (IADL), operates as a front of the Communist Party, USA, and publicly supports dozens of terrorist groups ranging from the PLO to the Irish Republican Army (IRA). * IPS :
IPS members have included such prominent leftists as Morton Halperin, the former National Security Council staffer who supervised the drafting of the classified Pentagon Papers-a review of documents related to the Vietnam War. Foreign policy official Leslie Gelb and National Security Council member Anthony Lake illegally authorized the public release of the Pentagon Papers, and later affiliated with the IPS (Lake is now the National Security Advisor for Bill Clinton). Indeed, a number of IPS members were involved in the 1971 Pentagon Papers scandal, causing the FBI to investigate the IPS for espionage. -—— via “The Plot to Hijack the CIA; Is nuclear terrorism about to emerge? ,”Published in October 1994 Inside Story: World Report

***** ... What do all of these organizations [IPS, IPB, PAN, & HAP] have in common? Cora Weiss.
Cora Weiss is the daughter of Faberge millionaire and Soviet-phile Samuel Rubin. She is the president of the Samuel Rubin Foundation, which finances a host of communist causes. As well as president of her father’s foundation, Cora is president of the IPB, president of the HAP, an international representative of the PAN, and the principal financier of the IPS, which was founded by a grant from the Rubin Foundation. ...
In 1983, [Cora] Weiss was a delegate to an IPS sponsored US-USSR confab for disarmament. Delegates included members of the Riverside Church, which is allied with the National Council of Churches (NCC) and World Council of Churches (WCC). ...
The anti-Americanism of Riverside, the NCC and the WCC is well known. All three organizations were advocates for the North Vietnamese. All three organizations were advocates for Marxists revolutions in Africa. (Indeed, the WCC contributed to Robert Mugabe’s Marxist army.) All three organizations were advocates for the Marxist revolutions in Central America in the 1980’s. All three protested the deployment of Pershing missiles in Europe. All three condemned the Gulf War. All three condemned US military action against the Taliban.
Weiss is definitely plugged in to the good old comrade’s network. For example, the IPS Board of Directors contains such liberal luminaries as Harry Belafonte, Time magazine journalist Barbara Ehrenreich, and editor of The Nation magazine Katrina vanden Heuvel (who was formerly the director of the IPS’s Transnational Institute).
Each of these people are well known for their unrepentant leftwing commitments. Ehrenreich is the Vice–Chair of the Democratic Socialists of America. [Katrina] vanden Heuvel, is a staunch apologist for socialism. Belafonte was a founding member of the Hollywood chapter of SANE, a precursor of PAN. In December 2000, he received an honorary degree from Cuba’s Higher Arts Institute. Radio Havana reported that Belafonte said Cuba has always been an artistic haven for people who struggle for the liberation of humanity.
Cora’s old comrade network is incestuous as well. Peter Weiss, Cora’s husband, was the first chairman of the IPS, and is a member of the HAP board. He is a member of the National Lawyers Guild (NLG) and the Center for Constitutional Rights. The NLG is a communist proxy group. Both it and the Center for Constitutional Rights litigate government counter-intelligence activities. -———— ‘Red Queen of “Peace”,’ By Michael Tremoglie, FrontPageMagazine.com, December 11, 2002

No, The Queen was dissed and is having revenge. She is the all powerful one who was shown to be pitiful quivering liar. She has returned to deal a poisonous death blow.

The evil one should be destroyed

Apparently, it’s a sin for a Republican to characterize things that happen during closed door intelligence committee meetings, but it’s refreshing when Democrats to the same thing.

Been expecting this. Been warning about it. OVERT War has been declared on the CIA by this administration. Prepare to see the final destruction of our intel apparatus.

This is a very transparent game of Gotcha! that will eventually prove nothing to no one. Except, of course, that the Dems are willing to play very shallow games with national security, for the barest of political aims.

That said, this couldn't happen to a better agency. HUMINT is the realm of used car salesmanship and lies. While I don't believe that they're guilty of what Pelosi and co. say they are (because they can't keep their mouths shut about anything that might be worth bragging about to Democrat congressmen), they've been underhanded and deserving of comeuppance for some time. Karma's a MF.

"In April 1985 [Leon] Panetta joined with 13 of his leftist congressional colleagues... in sponsoring a 20th anniversary fund-raising gala for the pro-Marxist Institute for Policy Studies (IPS), which had been described by Brian Crozier, director of the London Institute for the Study of Conflict, as the "perfect intellectual front for Soviet activities which would be resisted if they were to originate openly from the KGB."

Thanks for the info. I wonder what the chief marxist Obamunism really discussed in Russia without his sidekick Hillary. The One, left of Chavez and Castro, immersed in the religion of oppression since childhood.

Leon should realize it is not smart to piss off the rank and file in the CIA

Presidents come and presidents go. Directors come and directors go. The CIA remains. :-)

All you really nned to know about Panetta.
He is/was/forever will BE, a clintonista. All the ties to China, Russian Mafia, (Gore’s special niche via Armand Hammer,) and every leftist/marxist/islamic dictator on earth flows through the clinton library these days.

Sounds like an “Able-Danger” sort of activity. It likely wouldn’t make the news if it didn’t have substantial domestic content.

Comes with the territory. clinton spent part of the Vietnam War in Moscow. clinton (and friends) controls this. Take it to the bank.
clinton is a criminal genius. obama is just a criminal.
