Obamas health care proposal is, in effect, the repeal of the Medicare program as we know it. The elderly will go from being the group with the most access to free medical care to the one with the least access. Indeed, the principal impact of the Obama health care program will be to reduce sharply the medical services the elderly can use. No longer will their every medical need be met, their every medication prescribed, their every need to improve their quality of life answered.
It is so ironic that the elderly - who were so vigilant when Bush proposed to change Social Security - are so relaxed about the Obama health care proposals. Bushs Social Security plan, which did not cut their benefits at all, aroused the strongest opposition among the elderly. But Obamas plan, which will totally gut Medicare and replace it with government-managed care and rationing, has elicited little more than a yawn from most senior citizens.
Its time for the elderly to wake up before it is too late!
In our new book, Catastrophe, we explain - in detail and in depth - the consequences the elderly of Canada are feeling from just this kind of program. Limited colonoscopies have led to a 25% higher rate of colon cancer and a ban on the use of the two best chemotherapies are part of the reason why 42% of Canadians with colon cancer die while 31% of Americans, who have access to these two medications, survive the disease.
Overall, the death rate from cancer in Canada is 16% higher than in the United States and the heart disease mortality rate is 6% above ours.
Under Obamas program, there will be a government health insurance company that gets huge subsidies of tax money. It will compete with private insurance plans. But the subsidies will let it undercut the private plans and drive them out of business, leaving only the government plan - a single payer - in effect.
Today, 800,000 doctors struggle to treat adequately the 250 million Americans who have insurance. Obama will add 50 million more to their caseload with no expansion in the number of doctors or nurses. Indeed, his plan will likely reduce their number by lowering reimbursement rates and imposing bureaucrats above them who will force medical decisions down their throats. Fewer doctors will have to treat more patients. The inevitable result will be rationing.
And it is the elderly who rationing will most effect. Who should get a knee replacement a 40 year old or a 70 year old? Who should get a new hip, a young person or an old person? Who should have priority in the operating room a seventy year old diabetic who needs bypass surgery or a younger person? Obviously, it is the elderly who will get short shrift under his proposal.
But the interest groups that usually speak up for the elderly, particularly AARP, are in Obamas pocket, hoping to profit from his program by becoming one of its vendors. Just as they backed Bushs prescription drug plan because they anticipating profiting from it, so they are now helping Obama gut the medical care of their constituents.
It is high time that the elderly of America realized what the stakes are in this vital fight to preserve Medicare as we know it and keep medical care open, accessible, and free to those over 65. It is truly a battle for their very lives.
Like a good fascist, 0bama wants to dispose of the weak and elderly.
They contribute nothing to the State.
Those elderly idiots don’t listen. The ones that are rational already know it.
Brilliant. I love Dick Morris. I can almost forgive his arrogance and his having worked for the philanderer with this one. He has come up with a great angle to drive a stake through the Barakula’s health reform.
Shut up and drop dead you old people!
It’s for the children!
Even if it is the children of illegal aliens.
“Single payer healthcare” (as the freeloaders like to call it) is the best way to get rid of people before they can start drawing Social Security. Uncle Adolf would be proud.
You are supposed to live a lifestyle of self destruction with drugs, drink, AIDS, sitting in front of the TV, and if nothing else kills you then suicide from depression (soon to be doctor assisted) - should be as far as you go.
Those that live to be old Failed and likely stopped supporting the Far Left agenda at some point and need to die because soon or they will be sitting in church and voting Republican.
Of course it is different for the Elite Far Left like Obama who are seeking the Fountain of Youth through whatever ghoulish medical process they can get it and be the only ones to afford it.
Oh dear. Thank God I am not a senior yet. He does not need seniors votes anymore because he has the young, illegals, gays, large chunk of hispanic vote and minorities.
He seniors and soon to be seniors this is Obama - get screwed. I wiped out your retirement plans now go and die. Sad but the elderly are easily fooled by the Democrats.
I saw this coming.
“Those elderly idiots dont listen. The ones that are rational already know it.”
It isn’t they don’t listen, it is that they(the AARP) will be exempt from it. So unless you are an AARP member (Dem constituency) you will be one of those with rationed healthcare.
Bingo. The seniors were always the key voting block. He knows he can lie and fool many and he has illegals, recent third world immigrants, gays, dead voters, ACORN surplus votes, etc. He just needs the old people to hurry up and die.
Ilegals will get endless freebies while old people will get rationed. This is EXACTLY what the Labour (marxist) Party did in the UK.
You obviously don't think you'll live long enough, under Obama's treacherous agenda, to become what you describe as an idiot.
I assure you that you won't turn into an idiot if you live enough years. You're already there. Rejoice.
“It isnt they dont listen, it is that they(the AARP) will be exempt from it.”
Umm. How, exactly, would the AARP be exempt from it? Just curious, as I’m an AARP member (or should I say my check cleared for the magazine). It’s a cheap geezer discount organization. For $12-13/yr you can join too, but ya’ gotta’ be a really old to get the discounts. In any event, the membership fee is hardly a significant surcharge to exempt yourself from a government death plan(which obviously won’t get you out of it anyway).
AARP is totally dominated by the Dems. Even the most recent articles in their house organ give absolutely no warning as to what is on the horizon for their members. It is written for the feeble minded that are either too dim to think for themselves, or were never able to do so in the first place. The AARP is an organization with very little real influence. Once you take away the geezer discounts, there is very little meat their.
This line is screwed up - I assume.
Basically is says 42% die with colon cancer under the Canadian system and 31% survive under the US system meaning 69% die under the US system... I assume they meant to say 31% die under the US system otherwise the US results would be much worse...
Oops, ........there is very little meat there.
You are going to start paying more for less. Just you watch, 1/2 of every dollar going to this thing will pay for just some paper pusher.
But, then again, the moment America’s waiting rooms are filled to the brim, the vote to repeal it. All I know is this. I had to see the doctor because of an ulcer. He told me to schedule an appointment to see a specialist-I scheduled that appointment that day-Tuesday-and saw him on Friday.
Agreed. Unfortunately much, much less.
This isn’t a lesson in frugality. This crap will likely kill me. Best to get some “health money” set aside offshore so I can have a chance at surviving a bit longer.
If Obama effectively repeals Medicare, the voters will repeal the Democrat party.
The baby boomers (including Morris) aren’t going to stand by and let their promised health care benefits go away. Nobody else may get any but the boomers will get theirs.. trust me..
Yup. That’s the way it worked 30 years ago. That’s the way it should work now. Unfortunately, the system itself is starting to unravel. Post stroke appointments with cardiologists can take three weeks to aquire, and that’s if you really push for them. Not exactly what I was expecting, after paying into the Ponzi scheme over my working life.
It is a very frustrating situation, having someone else making decisions as to what is appropriate for your healthcare. It will get worse. The problem is that the only folks that are going to get around this health debacle are the young folks at the bottom of the economic scale, and those at the very top. The vast middle is in the process of getting carved on a number of fronts.
You are generalizing when you say the "elderly" are easily fooled. You are either ignorant of or choose to ignore the common sense, values and sacrifices most of them made throughout their lives.
They know right from wrong. Divorce was an exception to the norm, single men and women living together was pretty much unheard of, there were a handful of abortions compared to what we witness today, and heroin, ecstasy, marijuana, etc. was not a problem that touched the great majority of families. Unmarried parents were the exception compared to what is going on today.
Gay Parades were unheard of, as was the present-day clamoring for gay marriages.
As I view it, no one would have dared to pull the crap that has dirtied this country, beginning in the '60s.
So who's being easily fooled? Bleeding-heart liberals, college kids buying into the leftist propaganda of liberal teachers, many twenty-somethings, blacks, hispanics, low IQ Americans?
None of them, I presume. Just the stupid old people.
Give me a break!
...dedicated to enhancing quality of life for all as we age," which "provides a wide range of unique benefits, special products, and services for our members." AARP operates as a non-profit advocate for its members and as one of the most powerful lobbying groups in the United States, and it also sells insurance, investment funds and other financial products
No one can be a conservative and a member of aarp.
58% of the therapy-challenged Canucks live while 31% of the Americans live? Did Morris switch these two figures around?
“You are generalizing when you say the “elderly” are easily fooled.”
There’s more afoot here than whether the elderly are easy marks for the Dems. As an enfeebled geezer of long standing, I can tell you that there are a number of things I’m uncomfortable with re. the older population. I’m not going to pat ‘em on the back too much, because for the most part they’ve had it pretty good until about a year ago. The average geezer was not exactly destitute up until that time. In fact, with some exceptions I found them to be terribly self absorbed and equally indulgent. Why would that be, I wondered? One would think that with more time on their hands they’d get more involved with contributing some of that time to the community, and maintain their societal attachments. From my experience, that’s not the case. Lots more cruises, vacations, eating out, big Caddie purchases. I didn’t get it, and still don’t to some extent.
My conclusion was, that after pulling out of the work place, they can become as culturally isolated as they want to, and too many do. It’s like they don’t want to be around the rest of society, a “geezer ghetto” mentality if you will. There’s lots more nihilism than I would have guessed. But when your health care, and SS benefits are “prepaid”, and your retirement saving are in Blue Chips, you ain’t beholdin’ to anybody (obviously the recent financial unpleasantness has adjusted some of this attitude, but much remains due to “attitude inertia”).
Even after the financial debacle of the last few months, most of the folks in my age category are still oblivious to what is threatening them in their remaining years. Groupthink, arrogance, unwillingness to reattach to the challenges facing them, it’s all there. Whether you are possessed of sterling ethics/morals, conservative beliefs, or if you were a phony all of your life it makes not a bit of difference. You don’t get extra credit from Washington, and thinking that you will or should just blinds you to the fact that no one in DC really cares about you unless you have a significant voting block.
That’s why geezers are slow to come around. They’ve had it so good, for so long, that their reaction times are degraded. It’s time they get out of their nanny state mentality and start using what remains of their common sense. Believe me, if you don’t use it, it goes away too fast.
I question if there are enough conservatives and wide-awake moderates to crush that party. As it stands now, we can't rely on the republican party to represent us any more, which makes it blatantly clear that the two-party system, i.e., the major parties, are in bed with each other.
I really wonder how much destruction will Obama and Congress have to bring on our country before they are stopped by loyal Americans.
They seem to spit in the faces of any factual information presented to them by those knowledgable on subjects pertaining to his "leftist agenda".
Americans with a working brain are also ignored.
Will the tea parties wise him up?
Is this from there advertising literature? Hardly sterling proof of their efficacy when they're about to be shorn.
“No one can be a conservative and a member of aarp.”
I can show you my canceled check, and my membership card.
Dang it! Can’t keep my their/there protocol straight this evening.
Amen! In my weird way of looking at the world and its battles I am convinced that his time in the belly of the beast has turned out to be one of his greatest strengths. Goodness knows he learned a lot about them during that time.
He is right on point with this. Remember the hell that broke loose when, I think it was Dick Armey, who said they wanted to improve Medicare to the point that its current form would die on the vine because everyone would choose the improved version, and the Dems promptly ran the sound byte of him saying only “die on the vine” and everyone bought into it?
Better think again about that. The National Rifle Association has 4 million members and, as we all know, is quite powerful. AARP claims 35 million members. How could it be anything but powerful?

“How could it be anything but powerful?”
Do I gotta’ tell you again? It’s a geezer discount club. It’s not made up of folks with deeply held intellectual beliefs (like the NRA). AARP is based on the discounts available with membership. It’s not a thinking person’s organization. It’s there so you can get the deals!
Elderly people have a “duty to die and get out of the way”.
— Gov. Richard Lamm (D-Colorado)
http://www.nytimes.com/1984/03/29/us/gov-lamm-asserts-elderly-if-very-ill-have-duty-to-die.html
Medicare and social security are by far the largest welfare programs in the US. (If you disagree, look up the word “welfare”.) Since these programs overwhelmingly benefit the elderly, the elderly are well-organized to lobby and vote for the continuation and growth of their welfare benefits.
Morris is right: things are going to change under ObamaCare. Welfare is politically distributed. Under ObamaCare, virtually everybody will be enrolled in a medical welfare program with features determined by political processes rather than by market demands.
The elderly will lose their political clout once everybody is enrolled. Once patients’ demands can only be made through political processes, politicians are going to hear from all sorts constituents and lobbyists for special needs; e.g., the mental illness, pregancy, fill-in-the-blank cancer, drug addiction, AIDS, sports medicine, the list is endless. Seniors will just be one of many supplicants and will thus lose their special standing. Social security and Medicare will no longer be the “third rail” of politics.
Richard Lamm had a clear vision of the logical conclusion of Democrat health care policy back in 1984.
You are correct in every respect. It will be "reform", not "repeal".
But, when he says "We can't continue with the system we have", what do you suppose he's talking about...??? Obama proposes to "reform" Medicare via government-imposed rationing.
Elderly people (and I am one) need to resist the move to National Health Care.
In Canada, that would be the third Friday in January. Next.
Perhaps that's the reason you joined -- hope it's paying off well for you. However, with 35 million members, even if they're not Einsteins, that has to represent lots of votes. And, since they're not thinkers, they can probably be more easily controlled. Made to order for the DemocRATS.

They won't be so relaxed after the Obama Inc cuts Medicare to shreds.
It was Newt Gingrich who said it about the dying on the vine...
fyi, the exact phrase was ‘wither on the vine’...
http://www.patientprivacyrights.org/site/News2?page=NewsArticle&id=5064&news_iv_ctrl=1146
Newt and Kennedy working together mentioned in this article, made me ill to read it.
By my math, 100% - 42% deaths = 58% survival rate for Canadians, which is more than the 31% survival rate given for Americans. If the numbers given are correct, Canada's winning. If the numbers AREN'T correct, that's an atrociously-written sentence.
Dammit!!!!
Thats what happens when your late to a thread about President Unicorn’s health care plan. Someone always beats me to the Soylent Green reference.
:-)
More than a few elderly are catching on here, whereas pre-election you were a kook if you thought so. I’d love to see Dick Morris and Ed Schultz go head to head - yee haw!
Speaking of rationing, I heard on the radio on a news break that the H1N1 vaccine will be rationed because there isn’t enough to go around. “Not everyone can get them - decisions will have to be made on who qualifies”, which can mean a pregnant woman, young child, health care worker or those with an underlying condition such as asthma according to the news reporter.
A fair number of the seniors are down at the local government funded senior center busy eating their government subsidized meals to bother with this trash. Their local democrap politician told them not to worry, the politician that got them the funding for the propaganda...er, uh “Senior Center” in the first place. When its time to get in the boxcar to go east for resettlement, they’ll comply with the fuehrer’s “request” and go peacefully.
Morris is a interesting guy.
Big picture research and ideas he is spot on. When he then tries to parlay that into poltical prediction (as on Hannity) he is usually 180 degrees off.
This time he may be spot on on both counts....
I am astounded at your post about old people.
It is full of your bias and not reflective on what I see as an old person. And malicious to boot.
That is exactly what the elderly deserve for voting for Obama.
Give the people what they want and give it to them HARD!
Free medical care is not what senior have. We have worked a lifetime, paid the medicare and social security taxes over alifetime and pay for our medicare in retirement according to our income. We pay for our medigap insurance which usually comes from our employer and we continue it on reituring.
Whoever thinks this is free and welfare is full of crap.
The attack on older people is disgusting. They are your mothers and fathers and grandmothers and grandfathers. And yourself one day.
Yep, the AARP is like a lot of the embedded Soviet disinformation program that has been silently running for almost a century. Just a little push and tug from many different sides and Lady Liberty is starting to lean to the Left.
