WASHINGTON The Bush administration built an unprecedented surveillance operation to pull in mountains of information far beyond the warrantless wiretapping previously acknowledged, a team of federal inspectors general reported Friday, questioning the legal basis for the effort but shielding almost all details on grounds they're still too secret to reveal.
The report, compiled by five inspectors general, refers to "unprecedented collection activities" by U.S. intelligence agencies under an executive order signed by President George W. Bush after the Sept. 11, 2001, terror attacks.
Just what those activities involved remains classified, but the IGs pointedly say that any continued use of the secret programs must be "carefully monitored."

It was just terrible I tell you, but we can still do it.
Kept us safe for years.
Bush’s surveillance program may have been massive, but you ain’t seen nothing yet. And, the motivation will be quite different.
#1 - No more attacks in the US.
#2 - How many US citizens have been prosecuted for crimes OTHER than terrorist related acivities due to these programs?
Just sayn ;-)
This probably explains why we never had the promised 09-11-01 II while President Bush was in office.
So then are we to assume that Obama is not using the same techniques? or he is only because its Obama its OK?
This is being made public now for the following reason: Nobama’s poll numbers have been tanking, so it’s time to drag Big Bad Bush out of the closet so The Kenyan can demonize him - again. The political game that is being played with our national security is astounding. And, disgraceful as well.
This is nothing new. We already knew all about this. What we are seeing here is just the drive-by digging up a corpes and dragging it around the courthouse square to divert attention from zero’s meltdown economy. It’s all kabuki theater. Makes me want to puke.
Beat me by 22 seconds. You are spot on.
He kept us safe for nearly 8 long years, regardless of the democrats efforts to undermine the war and our own country.

Indeed! And have you noticed the lazy Southern drawl is back at times?
Anyway, didn’t Obama decide to continue this surveillance?
Thank God for President Bush....He did the job he was supposed to do....COMMANDER IN CHIEF means you do what you gotta do!!
so you have been on freepr since Feb of this year...and have no qualms about Obama’s destruction on a massive scale of our society...yet use this quote in relation to Bush?
Boola boola boola Bush, the boogey man.
Now, not so much...
I guess they finally decided that Nixon was really dead, they kept dragging him out of his grave when convenient, now it’s Bush.
