That’s what I’m saying. I just can’t see an attorney doing 14 years if he could just hand over the money.

99% of attorneys give the other 1% a bad name...this from one who’s brother is among the other 1%.

From your linked article.

Four years ago, both parties decided to have a retired Delaware County judge, A. Leo Sereni, look for the money. After 15 months using two forensic accounting firms, Sereni's search came up blank.

He recommended that the court release Chadwick.

...A panel of three Delaware County judges dismissed Sereni's findings.

So they could not prove that he had the money, but they kept him in jail for 14 years anyway.

Unless there is more to this case, I hope that Chadwick ends up owning Delaware County after the lawsuit.

He was not convicted of anything. He was found in contempt of court. Same thing happened to Susan McDougal, by the way. I think she did close to two years in prison rather than squeal on Slick Willie. Wise choice, considering what happened to her husband, who did squeal.

There is no lawsuit. The judges all have absolute immunity for their judicial actions.

Maybe, and maybe not.

He refused to provide permission to let investigators check his claim. I suspect he has the money.

LOL

When my brother passed the bar a couple of years ago I told him “I guess we’re lucky that we can still say there are no prostitutes in the family.”

I used to tell people my bro played piano in a whore house instead of admitting he was an attorney...then he moved to Illinois, now I say is is an attorney in hopes of changing the subject. :{)

What kind of woman would do that to a man? What kind of a Judge would let her?

I guess you aren't very familiar with women or the court system.

He has kids from a prior marriage. Probably gave it to them. Don’t blame him

LOL I can get some mileage out of that one!

I am learning the hard way that the contempt put forth in the media for men in the US has seeped into the court system(s). No wonder women are choosing divorce more often than in the past, they are taught to revile men their whole life.

At the bitter end of a divorce, a man is capable of doing anything to keep the ex from getting her hands on his money.

I remember a case many years back where a Navy chief with more than 25 years service took an Honorable Discharge rather than retirement because he didn’t want his ex-wife to get her hands on his pension.

This is taking it to extremes though.

Susan McDougal was incarcerated for contempt. This man was incarcerated for a debt disguised as a contempt. Susan McDougal held the keys to her release in her hand, she need only have testified. This man had to buy his way out or rot for 14 years if he could not. That smacks of debtors prison which we abolished in the 18th century.

Not even Madoff was jailed for failure to pay the debt. Why did not the courts simply order him to repay those he defrauded and then jug him for failure to pay back $15 billion?
