Reporting from Beirut -- A top advisor to Iran's supreme leader today urged the country's establishment to be more tolerant of dissent, even as military officials stepped up their rhetoric in the latest signs of divisions created by the marred reelection of President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad one month ago.

Mohammad Mohammadian, a midranking cleric who heads Ayatollah Ali Khamenei's office of university affairs, acknowledged simmering discontent over the vote, which sparked massive protests and a violent crackdown last month.

Here is the grabber, such gall. No one should be upset that the election was a fraud.--

"If even certain rights have been denied throughout the election process, nobody should make such a fuss," said Mohammadian, the supreme leader's aide. "If the regime changes, everything would collapse."

The next thing the courageous citizens of Iran need to do is cut off the groceries to the religious leaders who obviously don’t give a hoot for the people. They are dictators who will kill to stay in power. Some religion.

Off Topic and taking a look at what else is being said (propaganda) in Iran and at the Friday Sermon:

Note: The following blog entry is a quote:

Ayatollah Kashani In Friday Sermon: If There’s A Need To Amend Election Law – It Must Be Done Via Majlis

In his sermon today, Tehran interim Friday prayer leader Ayatollah Emami Kashani said that if there is a need to amend the election law, it must be done properly, and via the Majlis.

He said that the enemy, i.e. the U.S. and England, had paid money so that riots would spread throughout Iran. He added that everyone knows that the enemy listens to no one – not even 40 million people [i.e. those who voted in the recent election].

Kashani said that Imam Khomeini had ordered the nation to be united, that the nation should listen to its leader [i.e. Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei], and that Iran has a duty towards the Islamic ummah to maintain its brotherhood and to point it towards justice.

He also condemned the killing of a Muslim woman wearing a hijab in Germany, and said that Islam poses a grave danger for those [i.e. Western, particularly European] countries.

Actually, the army is not united against the protesters. The army general in charge in Tehran was quickly removed and transferred when he would not follow orders to attack the protesters.

I think the very fact the concept of “regime change” has been mentioned by “advisors” indicates the serious nature of the threat of overthrow of Khamenei.

It might happen.

I send daily prayer messages via twitter to individuals in Iran. Most of them I machine translate into Farsi to improve the chances that they are read.

They need our support.

Now the danger. What happens if Iran does overthrow the regime? Who fills the void and do they associate themselves with the Shiite Muslims in Iraq? That possibility is there. The Sunni Muslims ran things under Saddam, but now it is more Shiite. Except for the Kurds.

We have opened the can of worms, and the current administration is about to destroy the accomplishments of the previous.

Yes and I am sure that there are other military officers who feel the same way, and also the police.

All it would take would be the defection of a single high ranking military officer and the war would be on.

I saw a twitter post a few minutes ago, that if true could be revealing about the situation:

“Uniformed POLICE force SHOOTING AT armed BASIJIA”

Not that would be an event. I had previously heard about some police beating militia.
