NIGERIAN militants claim to have blown up for a second time a recently repaired oil pipeline operated by US petroleum giant Chevron.
The Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta (MEND), the country's most prominent armed group, said it destroyed the pipe around 1900 GMT on Friday (5am AEST Saturday). The pipeline was first hit in May.
"Our fighters revisited the recently repaired Chevron pipeline linking Alero creek through Abiteye to the Chevron export terminal in Delta state and destroyed it again," the group said.
Nigeria's main rebel group, which claims it's fighting for a greater share of the oil wealth to go to locals, said it originally destroyed the pipeline in southern Nigeria on May 24 in response to a military offensive.

They wanted a cut of the revenues.
A BIG cut of the oil revenues.
Maybe they want to send a message to Chevron to stop the exploitation of the local populace in the oil drilling.
Didn’t Obama take a swipe at the oil industry yesterday in his speech in Ghana? Maybe these guys were just following Obama’s orders.
“My greeting is to you,
I am Barack Hussein, First Chancellor of Nigeria Oil and Gas. You are as a friend to hear my story. I have possessed to myself a most valuable holding of bearer bonds, but as unfortunate I am, I have no way of exiting this place as I am without sufficient funds to leave. Should you want to share 6 trillion dollars with me, please send me all your money today so that I may depart. I should meet you in London for us to celebrate...............................”

The Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta (MEND), the country's most prominent armed group...I guess their poverty hasn't stopped them from buying guns and bombmaking stuff. Their efforts would be better spent fighting the predominantly Moslem Nigerian gov't.
Because they're Muslims, and all they do is destroy and kill.
the heavily biased Wiki-wacky page (no disclaimer about impartiality is shown of course):
“It must be clear that the Nigerian government cannot protect your workers or assets. Leave our land while you can or die in it.... Our aim is to totally destroy the capacity of the Nigerian government to export oil.” ... Kenneth Roth, Executive Director of Human Rights Watch, has said of the situation, “The oil companies can’t pretend they don’t know what’s happening all around them. The Nigerian government obviously has the primary responsibility to stop human rights abuse. But the oil companies are directly benefiting from these crude attempts to suppress dissent, and that means they have a duty to try and stop it.”
