Posted on 07/13/2009 7:17:59 AM PDT by Jbny
On Sunday, the New York Times struck another blow against the Bush administrations counter-terrorism measures with a front-page story alleging that a CIA program was kept secret from Congress for eight years. The orders to keep Congress out of the loop which sound flagrantly illegal came, according to the story, straight from then Vice President Dick Cheney.

Yep, pretty dastardly of the VP wanting to kill our enemies that are at war with us. I am sure we all feel safer knowing that current Commisar Paneta has ended this program. / sarcasm on heavy!
The CIA reports to the Executive. End of story.
New plan.... “Pet or Gently Rub he Enemy”
“Kill or capture the enemy”?
Sounds good to me. What a novel concept. To the wussy Dims of course.
“There is no subsitute for victory”.
Kill em all, Allah can sort em out.
Good heavens, you can’t make this sh$t up.
We need to dig up Roosevelt and Truman, and prosecute them.
They had a plan to kill Hitler. Outrageous!
“Coming on the heals of another story”
At the moment you have Pelosi challenging Paneta's feudal rights and precedence in a dispute no one outside the crowd of Siciliano Protectores understand.
The fact the Chicago families own the rest of the government probably ought to be of some concern to everyone.
WFB used to note that "so and so" (forgot his name) said that someday we'd wake up and the Mob would have taken over the government ~
“Yep, pretty dastardly of the VP wanting to kill our enemies that are at war with us.”
Under Obama, only our capitalist allies will be killed.
My, my. How un-PC. It sounds like the George Patton rant about you don't win wars by dying for your country. You win wars by making the other s.o.b. die for his.
Which major city are we going to have to lose to Islamofacist terrorism before the sheeple wake up?
Let the heeling begin ;-)
The comfy pillow!
The only thing that’s got me mildly puzzled is why the order to keep it from Congress came from Cheny. Shouldn’t it have come from the President himself?
“The CIA reports to the Executive. End of story.”
For 8 years we had adults in charge, that were concerned with our nation’s best interests.
Now we have college freshman in charge, who formed their thought patterns while sitting on hemp blankets at an outdoor reggae concert.
Time wounds all heels.
Time heals all wounds.
Touch your computer-ah....Heal!
Obama Bin Laden, the Nuclear armed communist leader and friend of the Iranians.
Cheney could only order it kept from the Senate. He would have that authority as ‘President of the Senate’.
That's outrageous. This must be stopped! [/sarcasm]
Well, not exactly...Agencies “brief” congressional intelligence committees in order to get/secure funding. So they could just report to the exec, but they may risk funding cutoffs if they do not maintain a relationship with the HSCI or the SSCI.

= = = = = =
...and our economic system, our morality, our freedom of speech, our liberty and justice.
Step 1) stack the Supreme Court
Step 2) Create the “Civilian Security Force” (ACORN) that he promised before the election:Neighborhood Community organizers(Marxist thugs)
Kill and capture are not in the Democrat lexicon.
Cuddle and fondle are.
When you are in a war, leaders have to do things to win it, including killing or capturing the enemy. DOH!
How does this secret commando unit stand up against Churchill’s decision not to evacuate a British city before a planned air raid because it would reveal to the Germans that the British had broken their secret code?
I don’t recall the British ever going after Churchill with an investigation of it.
Cheney’s plan seems if we don’t have enough enemies, create some more then kill them.
Bush, the Elder, managed to get most of the ME to help us in Gulf War I. Bush, the Younger, managed to turn that around by not getting bin Laden dead or alive for 9/11 but instead opted to take out Saddam because Iraq was doable. Of course in the process of taking out Iraq he eliminated the barrier we now need for Iran. A sort of lose-lose plan.
Step 0) redefine terrorist to include your political enemies
Surely that qualifies him to be head of the CIA.
"He polished that handle so carelessly, that he became the leader of the Queen's Navy."
Aren't these the same Democrats loudly asking why haven't we caught Bin Laden? How are we supposed to catch him or kill him without something like what they are talking about here?
Just another left/Dem/Socialist smoke screen for something much, much, larger that they don’t want found out...yet.
Cheney had his own Deadly Viper Assassination Squad, ala “Kill Bill”.
At least that’s the Dem wet dream.
The problem the dems have is that most of the country doesn’t have a problem with that.
Nonsense. We went after Saddam as he was torturing and gassing his own people; he was going to cause supply disruptions to world oil markets to cripple the West; and he was funneling money to terrorists. Stop with the DNC talking points - the adults made the right decisions here - snipers like you aren’t informed enoough to make adult decisions. Get back to day camp or I’ll tell your parents!
How is this some super secret plan? Did Congress not know there was a war going on?
if the Dems actually want to get on the opposite side of Cheney on THIS, I say let ‘em
Wow, attempting to take effective action against the enemy. That certainly sounds illegal. I’m sure the media thinks it ought to be, anyway.
Unlike most Presidents, Bush actually selected a competent person to be his VP, and delegated a great many responsibilities to him.
Smokescreen, for sure - we need to put this in perspective. Listen to the reports - program was started in the wake of 9/11 and not yet, fully operational. Other references indicate that efforts mostly died out, within 6 months.
This is simply the Democrats continuing to position the Bush Administration in the cross-hairs for prosecution. There is nothing here, except a desire to demonize the previous administration and deflect public focus away from their own misdeeds.
Kill the enemy; those who are trying to kill you. Isn’t that what is done, in war?
ABC News: The secret CIA program that was withheld from Congress was designed to find and capture or kill senior Al Qaeda leadership at close range rather than through air strikes, government officials said.
