OR...I can make them prove that I don't have any "black" blood.
It saddens me to see this in America today....well...it just isn't "American".
You will lose your case for having posted your intent here....and, because you’re white.
How is this NOT discrimination?
Unfortunately, I see these ads every day in the academic world.
Look for the “paper bag test” to make a comeback.
That is standard boilerplate on all government job listings, though stated a bit clumsily here. More typical phrasing is “Women and Minorities are ENCOURAGED to Apply”
Tell them you are part Cherokee
So, the solution to discrimination is more discrimination.
You find the right lawyer with an imagination and a good sense of PR work I think you could take this to the USSC. Its a judgement call on what “race” you are and from what I know there is no legal standards for racial definition determination.
Ok, I’ll bite: What is a “paper bag test”?
They can’t do this!
What ever happened to that nice EOE law?
SEC. 2000e-2. [Section 703]
(a) Employer practices
It shall be an unlawful employment practice for an employer -
(1) to fail or refuse to hire or to discharge any individual, or otherwise to discriminate against any individual with respect to his compensation, terms, conditions, or privileges of employment, because of such individuals race, color, religion, sex, or national origin; or
(2) to limit, segregate, or classify his employees or applicants for employment in any way which would deprive or tend to deprive any individual of employment opportunities or otherwise adversely affect his status as an employee, because of such individuals race, color, religion, sex, or national origin.
“OR...I can make them prove that I don’t have any “black” blood.”
That’s always the most interesting point to me. Everybody always talks about minorities, ethnicity, diversity, and race, but no one can ever say exactly how any of those things can be verified.
As an equal employment opportunity employer, The City of North Little Rock is seeking qualified black and female applicants.
Lighter or darker than.
Southern DEMOCRATS used to test whether someone was white or “negro” by holding a brown paper bag up next to their face.
If you’re lighter than the bag, you’re white - darker, “negro”.
In terms of employment stability, it must be sweet to be a highly-competent, educated, black person. It is triple-insurance against corporate layoffs.
Hell, I’m in AR and I haven’t heard of that. Wow. Thanks!
The fecal matter is about to hit the fan.
I think EVERYONE should simply lie about their race. If NO caucasian claimed to be one, it might bring the system down. Just one of my many ideas for civil disobedience that we should have implemented 8 months ago.
Obviously the thing to do is say you’re black on the employment application. I think it might be iffier to say you’re female if you’re not, but you could try it and then sue them for the whole transgender discrimination thing, or maybe both.
Everyone send this to drudge
Black? I thought they liked African American? Is them using the word black racist?
It would appear that blacks also cannot be guilty of voter intimidation!
Or hate crimes mind you.
I was white until 1973. I became “latino” (and have been ever since) when I a returning Vietnam Vet could not get classes at a local JC because minorities ... especially Vietnam refugees .. were given priority for and were filling the classes
Tagline change
>>>Black? I thought they liked African American? Is them using the word black racist?<<<
Black and African American seem to be used more or less interchangebly these days.
I think the reason the ad read “black” instead of “African American” is that “African AMERICAN” would “discriminate” against illegal aliens.
I’m a Human Resources guy for my day job, was on the employment side (penance for something I must have done to someone somewhere at some time) for several years.
It’s funny that freepers don’t get the intense cynicism behind this kind of ad. But if you’re not in the biz, I guess it’s easy to see this the way it is being seen on this thread.
We want your application (you A-A females) so we can report out that the pool of minimally qualified applicants matches the demographics of the area in which the job is located. It’s called keeping the fed off of your a$$.
Like many government programs, folks working in those areas become expert at appearing to be in compliance while continuing business as usual.
Or any crimes for that matter.
Like “liberal” and “progressive”,
and term applied to people of a certain ideology or culture
comes to actually mean what it is referring to,
and becomes viewed as a negative.
The people of that ideology or culture then consider the term pejorative, and demand to be referred to as something else.
I am in complete agreement with you. And we should have started doing this years ago. If they want to play the race card, we need to see them their race card and raise them another. We’re all discrimination victims now, so we might as well take advantage of it.
“OR...I can make them prove that I don’t have any “black” blood.”
Check the application and see if it says Black or African American. If it says African American apply for the job and use that designation.
When you get the interview and they say you aren’t black, tell them you were born in Kenya and as such fit the African American designation.
Sit back and watch HR’s heads explode.
I just got off the phone with The City Of North Little Rock Human Resources Department. According to the woman on the phone, they are required to use that exact wording in every ad they place. It is required under a consent decree between the DOJ and North Little Rock dating back to the mid 1980’s. When I asked her why it was worded that way(when often the wording is that they are encouraging minorities to apply,etc)..she said the exact wording came from this decree.
She was very nice and offered to send me a copy of the decree, but I told her not to bother. She said that the job was open to all applicants. However it is obvious which applicants will get the job if you ask me. This is our quota system in action. Reverse discrimination.
Exactly....SPHR here.....hated working for the “gov’t” even in private biz...so got out of it. They are reflecting what gov’t intervention causes....
So, the federal government is “decreeing” the wording of an employment ad for a CITY in the STATE of Arkansas...
Folks, this is symptomatic of the problem in this country.
The cry of “no taxation without representation” was not about taxes, it was about local control and self-governance.
“When in the course of human events” time.
The most important thing about any job is to make sure you get the most qualified man or woman for it regardless of race, color or creed. Naturally information on every single job application should be thoroughly checked out before any decision is made to ensure honesty, reliability and trustworthiness.
Freepers practicing reflex victomology, on MY FR?
It is more common than you think ;)
Yep...you have it exactly right. It likely stemmed from a lawsuit of some kind back in the 80’s between the DOJ and the City of North Little Rock. There were probably lawsuits like this filed all over the country at the time by the usual suspects(the ACLU et al).
Hard to believe they are still obligated to do it after this much time though.
They are getting bolder and bolder about announcing their intention to totally degrade Whites.
No-one is practicing ‘reflex victimnology’ here. We are looking at the state of our nation and how far we have traveled from our constitutional foundation. If this ad does not strike you as fundamentally wrong, then there is no hope for you. People should not be judged on the color of their skin nor their gender, they should be judged on who is the best applicant for the job.
Maybe they should have just said “non-whites”.
Don’t you know that “minority” is code word for stupid and lazy and has nothing to do with race or nationality? That’s why Asians are never considered a minority. And when whites are demographically the minority, they will never be considered a “minority.”
Can you imagine the outrage if the ad said blacks and women need not apply. Talk about your hypocrisy and double standards.
What white guy is going to work for $18-24 an hour?
Your suit will be thrown out because you lack standing to sue.
;)
When you get the interview and they say you arent black, tell them you were born in Kenya and as such fit the African American designation.
Sit back and watch HRs heads explode.
__________
Gosh, no one has ever thought of that before. You are a genius.
HR recruiter for a couple of years, and that is exactly the kind of stuff we laugh at. Yours would be the shortest interview ever. And because you would have knowingly falsified your app, you would have zero recourse. But you would be unknowingly the brunt of jokes for years to come. Quite a legacy.
Look at a job application sometime. It does not ask where you were born, African American is a racial category, one of 6 or 7 found on applications for organizations that must report stats out to the fed.
Well I’m Black Irish
