Posted on 07/15/2009 12:09:23 PM PDT by Kieri
Michigan's unemployment rate for June of 2009 jumped to 15.2%. That's a 1.1% increase over the prior month.
Rates usually climb or fall by a few tenths of a percent. It's rare to see such a substantial increase or decrease.
But experts say the struggling economy combined with the ailing auto market means Michigan has been hit harder than other states.
We'll have much more on the numbers and what it means for Michigan tonight on 6 News at 5 and 6.
Could you please fix the headline to 15.2%? I guess I was an optimist.
Oh I’m sure the Democrats will fix everything. They do own Government Motors now.
Why won’t Obama save us? Where is our Federal Government!?!
and soon it will become REAL unemployment, not the Michigan Sham Unemployment where you take a furlough and collect unemployment + UAW sub-pay for a 13-week paid vacation.
Michigan’s unemployment rate is headed for 20%. Once 0bamacare kicks in and the insurance/health-related companies layoff, we’ll be thankful for the 15.2%.
Take that states with less unemployment!

Hows that hopey-changey thing y’all voted for workin out?
You do realize that the vast majority of jobs in Michigan are non union don’t you?
California and Michigan show the road we are on with Obama’s policies and the direction we are all headed. They are just the trailblazers.
Oh, good God.
Looks like the Democrats they keep electing have served Michigan well, no?
HOPEY CHANGEMAS!!!!! ;)
None of this is unintended. The Messiah knew this would happen. Notice he is not at all concerned. Notice he continues on with his drive to nationalize industry and healthcare and impose an energy tax on ordinary Americans.
If Bush were president, the media would be demanding his impeachment.
Bush is not president, and the media is very happy with the current president and doesn’t care one bit about all those who are being hurt by his policies.
He’s going to train them for his new green jobs since the old ones are gone for good.
These job losses are not necessarily 0bama’s fault. Bad corporate management, corrupt parasitical unions, poor labor work ethic, government regulation, all had a hand over the decades in destroying Michigan’s economic base. It’s just that 0bama is going out of his way to destroy what little is left, instead of trying to rebuild it.
Look at all those jobs Obama is saving, just don’t look at the numbers of job losses.
Many at FR are too busy dissing our state to mess with facts. They assume "union" right away.
I hate to say you got what you wanted, but there are others there that voted against him...
But those that voted for this idiot without doing a 15 minute search, you deserve what you get!
Now exactly who do the Commies organize against when they already own the government?
And, how much support went to Obama from Michigan?????
Just think what the rate would be if Zero hadn’t saved so many.
“Why wont Obama save us? Where is our Federal Government!?!”
What??! I’m waiting with that one lady for my crummy tank of gas...
Forgot about the illegal aliens, but many of them usually leave by October.
How's that hope and change working out for y'all?
I think we’ll see Michigan elect a Republican governor next year and go RED in the 2012 election......RED FOR SARAH!!!!
and soon it will become REAL unemployment, not the Michigan Sham Unemployment where you take a furlough and collect unemployment + UAW sub-pay for a 13-week paid vacation
Gotta love the unions... </s>
Detroit has looked like that for 20 years. Result of race riots and unrest, not the current economy. (not totally anyway)
So which is most likely:
(A) Michiganders will finally turn on the Democrats;
(B) Michiganders will decide they need a new set of Democrats; or
(C) Michiganders will reelect the current crop of Democrats.
“well be thankful for the 15.2%.”
At what point do Americans truly rise up in arms? How did FDR survive for so long...I know, I know, using shell games...I’m a bit concerned about that history repeating itself..
I’m so happy for them that they got what they voted for.
B. They just seem terminally stupid to me. No offense to conservative ones that live there.
No figures but as a lifelong resident who has been both union and non union I would estimate between 3 anf 5 percent of the lost jobs are union.
For every union job lost you can count on between 5 to 10 non union jobs lost.
“Im so happy for them that they got what they voted for.”
Good point - they’re part of a national movement...the 0zer0 army...Rope a dope hope, and change...brother, can you spare a dime?
I feel sorry for the folks in Michigan, but elections have consequences:
Obama/Biden - 57%
McCain/Palin - 41%
Many will, but ACORN and election fraud are difficult to fight.
—Could you please fix the headline to 15.2%? I guess I was an optimist.
—Well, you just lost all credibility here. Might as well go hide your head under a pillow now.
Don’t give up hope! The way you’re understimating/lowballing/minimizing the importance of the real UR, there’s a job in the Obama admin for you yet (snickers). Maybe the difference can be chalked up to some ‘jobs saved?’ Actually the UR is still 5% given the O team numbers, when ‘jobs saved’ are factored in...
Sounds like Michigan is entering Great Depression territory.
No one feels sorry for Michigan...they’re too busy kicking us when we’re down.
Be interesting to see if Michiganders will start emigrating to work alongside the Poles in the UK. Maybe go down to Brazil to teach mechanics at Embraer.
Obama/Biden - 57%
McCain/Palin - 41%
The blue state that’s very blue...but hey, aren’t you glad that Michelle and Malia get to travel and sight see on your nickel?? They deserve it, hey? Now, the other 85% of you, get back to work, we’ve got Obama bills to pay.
Yep. A beautiful state in most parts too. Unfortunately, too many folks vote Dem Socialist out of habit. All of the above is true of my home state as well, btw.
A coupla generations of “voting in your own economic interest” will do that for ya.
Reagan knew how to win Michigan but today’s fine conservatives are too busy kicking the people Reagan brought to his side to want to talk to them.
It plays right into the hands of the democrats.
Hopey Changey Dopey Derangey
So how is the hope and changie thing working out for ya???
