Early summer is sports day season and it seems as if we are living at my sons' schools, watching with pride as their little legs pump across the field, their eyes screwed up in concentration as they attempt to keep that pesky egg on the spoon.
But I find myself wondering why they try so hard when their teachers are so determined that there should be no winners, no matter how far a child streaks ahead of his classmates.
Last Friday was my five-year-old son Jacob's first sports day at his primary school, and when he powered over the finish line ahead of all his little classmates, he held his arms aloft and shouted 'I'm the winner', only to be taken aside and gently told by his teacher that there were no winners and it was all just a bit of fun.
His face fell as he felt as if he was being reprimanded for celebrating his success.
This misguided philosophy is meant to make it easier on those children who for ever trail in last, but that's an insult to their intelligence.
My son knew he had won the race, and so did all his friends. Telling him not to enjoy his moment of glory didn't make the slowcoach at the back of the pack feel any better - he was still last and everyone knew it - it just took the joy away from my son and made him wonder why he had pushed so hard to cross the finishing line first.

He was. That's the point. All too common in all too many schools.
Reprimanded, oui.
Although "punished" for success based upon individual hard work might be closer to correct.
It's the Marxist way.
.
government is like that
Sounds eerily similar to a socialist economy....the capitalist business owner works his butt off to get the huge order...makes the huge profit...collect the huge payment...and gets taxed out of his shorts so he can pay for the lazy azz not looking to get employed by the thousands of jobs available because it’s beneath them....
Everyone is equal and everything is free.....But some are more equal than others and everybodies taken all the free stuff.
This senseless attack on the best and brightest must stop!
The best and the brightest keep the world turning. The gifted carry a heavy burden, they make things work! They seek no special status, only that they be left alone to exercise their special gifts to the benefit of all.
It is a sick sort of madness that seeks to put them down. :-(
Yes, he was punished for his success.
The argument is that we don’t want the others to feel bad.
Well, growing up, I played 2nd string right field in our city’s park board sponsored little league. I was not very good-I knew it then and I certainly know it now. I played as much as I did because my mom had a Ramble Station wagon and could haul all of us around. When our team did well and when one player did a fantastic job I was excited as everyone else. My self esteem was not diminished when the team did well or one player was cheered to good pitching and so forth.
I think by recognizing someone who does well does not demean others who do less well. I don’t think kids believe it either. This is coming from the educational establishment.
This is what happens when you let psychologists take over the teaching profession.
the author shouldn’t bother complaining..the time to save her country is long past, the UK is already lost, and we are close on their heels.. we’ve got to deal with the same stuff over here, which is why every parent should pull their child out of public school and either homeschool or send them to private school. I am not a poor single mother, but I sacrifice rather than send my daughter to public school. If we all did that, someone might get the message.
He was. That's the point. All too common in all too many schools.
All too common in our world.
We're supposed to be ashamed of being from the best country.
The underdog is to be considered the true champion.
Losers are in, because they're losers at the expense of the winners--which everyone knows means the United States generally and true Americans specifically.
Just look at the people and nations our president is buddying up to. He's bought in completely to "the evil imperialist America is responsible for every problem in the world" baloney.
That's what the worldwide Socialist brainwashing has brought us.
Loathing of success and individual achievement.
We're expected to accept being cogs in the wheel of mediocrity under the leadership of clueless megalomaniacs like Obortion .
Using classical libtard techniques, the mom should express her sadness that every employee of the school is too stupid to be able to understand or define the word race.
She should find opportunity to drone on and on about it at, say a local town council meeting and then post the same on YouTube. Mentioning teachers by name would help.
She should then have her child go tell all the school kids where to find it, and get all of them joking about it and making fun of the principal and teachers in class often.
Wait until he earns a very high income. They’ll cut him down to size.
Submit to the collective.
What was that line in Patton “No winners, no loser, only the dead and the worse then dead”.....
Open up the post from the source and look at the first picture. The poor kid looks like he’s in special ed, actually reminds me of Prince Charles or whoever that Brit clown is.
It’s like the time when my little brother was playing little league ball back in the ‘70s in CT. The umpire was so f’in stupid he put his shin guards on upside down. Couldn’t call a strike if it was right down the middle, always balls. Libtard.
When my son was on the football team in high school, even if they scored and turned the game over in the last minute of play, they would get a penalty if they showed enthusiasm. It was called excessive celebrating. Nauseating.
I would have told my kid that he won and to ignore those other losers, including the teacher.
