The White House is some 472 miles from Georgetown, South Carolina. But long before Michelle Obama was born, her great-great grandfather, Jim Robinson, likely toiled in the fields here six days a week, from sunup to sundown.

But long before Michelle Obama was born, her great-great grandfather, Jim Robinson,

Someone should let Chris Parry know.

Maybe not. It would just confuse him big time.

So what? Then I guess that means that I’m guilty of being a slaver because I’m white just like she can claim some sort of standing as a descendant of a slave because she’s black?

My ancestors, even though primarily Southern, did not own slaves but they fought for their “country” (Mississippi, Alabama & Virginia). I’m pretty certain that they fought the War of Northern Aggression rather than FOR slavery, reading some of the letters within the family. But they were poor as church mice. And in our family you still don’t mention the name of...Sherman. If they see this post, I’m dead meat.

For my Yankee friends that think this might be silly, I warn you, don’t do it (mention that name), not in front of my kinfolks that is. {;O)

I,too, come from a group that has experienced enormous oppression both in their ancestral homeland (Ireland) and here in the US.But there are several differences between me and Mrs Hussein....

1)I'm not looking for "reparations"

2)I don't have a degree from a single Ivy League university, let alone two.

3)I've never made anything near $300,000 a year

4)I would never,in a thousand years, wear (or own) a pair of $500 sneakers although I could *afford* to own such a pair.

5)I would never,in a million years,wear a $500 pair of sneakers to a soup kitchen.

6)In spite of everything,I've *always* been proud to be an American.

Well hells bells, my ancestors came here to colonial Georgia
as little more than slaves themselves (indentured servants).
Worked alongside the slaves and finally became sharecroppers.
Where’s my bailout?

But Michelle Obama's great-great grandfather was a teenager when slavery was abolished, so as a free man, he started to leave a paper trail.

Which party freed him and which one tried to keep him a slave and then kept him down after abolition?

My great, great, great grand daddy and granny worked in the cotton fields from sun up to sun down with bloody hands bandaged ..My granny with her youngest child on her back..They had to work to put food on the table..To bad we can't hear about those poor farmers that did their own work instead of having slaves,,The slaves by the way that were sold to English and Americans by their own Chiefs..Now their chiefs are robbing their ancestors when we send money to feed the poor..

That would be the same party that owns them today! The only difference is the government is helping to keep them down in order to make them victims and dependent on them! They are trying to do the same damn thing to US! We can't have anyone but government running our lives because we are too stupid to know what is best for us. /s

Big frakking deal lady.

Mmo's side ... we either successfully invaded northern England several times or were known as a pack of cattle and horse thieves depending on which side of the border you lived on. Eventually the Crown kicked their a$$es all the way to the colonies.

Dad's side: Kicked out of Germany in the 1700's .... not sure but thank God ...

Everyone's family in America that got here before about 1920 got their butts kicked out of every decent country in the world or they LOST bigtime.

AMEN! My family never owned a slave and I'm sick of lefties trying to put the blame on others for decades now. If BILLIONS in reparations aren't enough through WELFARE then NOTHING will ever be enough!

I guarantee there isn't a welfare recipient today that knows or even remembers any slaves in their family!

I thought we were supposed to 'get over' the past and try to make the world a better place?! I seem to remember that was what we were told when Bill Clinton got caught with his pants down.

You know, glad you mentioned Grant, in our family, he was always respected! The soldier’s soldier, I think they could relate better to him, besides, look how he treated Robert E. Lee and the South (allowing them to retain their horses/mules to make a living and other points). No, Grant was also a man of character. We’ll defend Grant.

JeffChandler got me to thinking about Wilburforce who for something like what, 20 years? Submitted a bill to abolish slavery to Parliament. He was ridiculed, threatened, smeared and castigated but he stuck by his principles. That’s it! PRINCIPLES! You Betcha! Grant had principles...
