Obama admin green lights logging(DUmmies are outraged)
MNN ^ | 7/16/09 | Shea Gunther

Posted on 07/16/2009 4:31:57 PM PDT by Typical_Whitey

Secretary of Agriculture Tom Vilsack gave his personal approval for a 381-acre clear-cut in America's largest stand of temperate rain forest. Not cool, President Obama. Not cool at all.

The Obama administration has approved the sale of timber from the Tongass National Forest in Alaska. The 17-million acre forest is the largest stand of continuous temperate rain forest in the U.S. and contains a lot of old-growth trees. It's basically a snapshot of what the world looked like before we rolled heavy onto the scene.

The U.S. Forest Service gave the green light for the sale after approval from Secretary of Agriculture Tom Vilsack who stated in May that he would be the final gatekeeper on all decisions to sell timber from roadless ares of the national forests.

This first sale will come after seven miles of roads are built for the 381-acre clear-cut. This makes Hulk mad. Vilsack said that the main reason he approved the sale was to provide jobs to the area. Here's a radical idea -- those loggers should get new jobs not involving cutting down old-growth trees.

Jobs should not trump mountains, nor should they trump the last great stand of old-growth temperate rain forest left in this great nation of ours. Instead of spending the millions of dollars the federal government intends to pour into road construction to clear cut the area, how about giving the loggers job buyouts so they can find a new career with some scratch in their pockets?

You can donate money to the NRDC to help the fight to keep Tongass safe if you want to get active with your pocketbook.

President Alinsky’s gross HYPOCRISY continues. It will not be long before he has hosed every element of his radical left-wing cheering section, including the “greenies”.

Tom Vilsack gave his personal approval for a 381-acre clear-cut...

Alaska has 15 national parks, preserves, and monuments covering a total of 54 million acres. In fact, 65 percent of the state’s land is federally managed....

So, Alaska has 83,076,923 acres (54,000,000 / .65) and the clear cut is 381 acres. This is making the DUmmies nuts?

Figures! Heck, that is a huge portion of the state after all.

Nothing wrong with clear cutting and these big ole trees....Guess what...they're just big ole trees.

They not only can provide jobs NOW but the mandatory new plantings will provide the same in the future. Cool!!

Beats to hell that disastrous "clear by fire" scenario which kills not just the trees, animals and man...but puts a lot of cr** in the air!!

Conservatives defintely need to develop a more wise strategy for dealing with these enviro whackos— who incidentally are the number one source of domestic terrorism according to the FBI.

Everytime consumption is banned here at home, it increases the depletion of the item outside the United STates.

This depletion is compounded by two factors:

1. Other nations do not go to the effort American does to protect its environment. America also works to restore things like trees after they are harvested. This means net environmental destruction increases with the ban.

2. The additional important and transportation adds costs and other environmental hazards to the end game of lumber or furniture in your house.

3. It destroys US jobs.

In essence, most environmentalism is jingoistic and is actually exponentially destorying the global environment faster.

Here in Michigan there are strips cut through the national forests that are 100 and more yards wide by 20 or 30 miles long.

Why aren’t the enviroweenies squealing about that?

They are but the weenies don’t want them either. Not to mention that someone is taking the wood and making lumber out of it.

371 acres out of 17-million and they are bitching? These liberals don’t know numbers very well at all.

I was with an enviro nut at a meeting. She said she saw some maps (NY) of the forests 200 years ago and now and said we have just ruined the land...blah, blah, blah.

I them asked her what kind of house she had...and her mother's house and her daughter's house...All wood frame!!

Then I told her that NYS had 3 times as much forest land then when our nation began.

Sometimes, you just have to nail people.

381/17,000,000=0.0000224.

More like 2/1000ths of 1%.

Also known as "nothing".
