At least four people have been killed in two separate explosions at luxury hotels in the Indonesian capital Jakarta, say reports. The country's Metro TV reported that one blast hit the Ritz-Carlton and the other, the Marriott Hotel. Television footage showed the facade of one of the hotels had been torn off by the blast. The BBC's Karishma Vaswani, outside the Marriott, said ambulances are present and security is extremely tight. South Jakarta police Col Firman Bundi said the four who died were foreigners, reported AP. "There were explosions heard from two separate places, one the JW Marriott, the other in the Ritz Carlton," he said.

Wait, don’t they know that 0bama likes the Muslims?
Bloody Lutherans....
Obama, quick, apologize for the U.S. to them.
They have been there for years — they originated from Arab countries and brought their peaceful religion with them just like they’re doing here.
JW Marriot was hit several years ago by Jemah Islamia. Most of the casualties back then were Indonesian Muslims (80 to 90 percent).
Muslim 86.1%, Protestant 5.7%, Roman Catholic 3%, Hindu 1.8%, other or unspecified 3.4%
Must have been the Lutherans or Baptists. Possibly some nuns from Mother Teresa's Roman Catholic order.
Can't be, no cod for Lutefisk in the tropics. Must have been the Holly Rollers, the Papists, or even more likely the Jooz. It's almost always the Jooz who cause these problems.

Explosions in Jakarta
By Kenneth Conboy
Two bombs have apparently exploded in Jakarta between 0740 and 0750 local time. The first took place in front of the J.W. Marriott hotel, which was the scene of a 2003 bombing by Jemaah Islamiyah. The second reportedly took place near the Ritz Carlton, which is directly across the street from the Marriott. Further details are still pending.

“Twin blasts rock two hotels in Indonesian capital”
By BILL ROGGIOJuly 16, 2009 9:52 PM
SNIPPET: “Eleven people including six foreign guests are reported to have been killed in twin bombings at two luxury hotels in the Indonesian capital, while at least two more people have been killed in other bombings throughout the city.
Near-simultaneous blasts struck the Marriott Hotel and the Ritz-Carlton Hotel early on Friday. The first bomb was detonated at the Marriott. The second bombing at the Ritz-Carlton took place less than five minutes later.
Dozens of people have been reported to have been wounded in the blasts. The facade of the Ritz was heavily damaged during the explosion.
No group has taken credit for the bombings, but Al Qaeda affiliate Jemaah Islamiyah and the Tanzim Qaedat al-Jihad, a splinter group of Jemaah Islamiyah, are the prime suspects. The targets of the attack - foreigners at posh hotels - and the mode of the attack - near-simultaneous detonations - match the profile of attacks used by the al Qaeda-affiliated groups
The bombings in Jakarta are the first such attacks in Indonesia since October 2005, when Bali was rocked by a second suicide attack; 20 people were killed and hundreds were wounded.
In October 2004, the Australian Embassy in Jakarta was hit. Nine people were killed and hundreds more were wounded. Jemaah Islamiyah took credit for the bombing.
In August 2003, Jemaah Islamiyah detonated a bomb at the Jakarta Marriott, killing over a dozen and wounding hundreds.
Jemaah Islamiyah was also behind the deadly attack on the resort in Bali in the fall of 2002 that killed more than two hundred people, including eighty-eight Australians.”

“TERRORISTS TARGET HOTELS AGAIN-—THIS TIME IN JAKARTA INTERNATIONAL TERRORISM MONITOR—PAPER NO. 543”
By B.Raman
SNIPPET: “ 9. Since luxury hotels patronised by local and foreign social and business elite continue to be among the favourite targets of terrorists, standardised physical security enhancements have to be drawn up. The past enhancements were essentially meant to prevent car bombers and other suicide bombers through tightened access control. How to prevent the fabrication of explosive material and an assembly of an IED inside is a question, which needs urgent attention in the wake of the latest Jakarta blasts.
10.No one has so far claimed responsibility for the Jakarta blasts, but the needle of suspicion points to the Jemaah Islamiyah.
11. Annexed below is a list of attacks on hotels since 9/11. This does not include the attacks on night and tourist spots in Bali in 2002 and 2005 and in Sharm-el-Sheikh in Egypt in 2005.”

CIA Caught ‘Off-Guard’ By Jakarta Hotel Terror Attack
ABC News ^ | By BRIAN ROSS, MATTHEW COLE and RICHARD ESPOSITO

U.S. intelligence officials were caught “off-guard” by the Friday terror attacks against two U.S.-based hotels in Jakarta, Indonesia.
A senior U.S. official told ABC News the attacks came as a “surprise.”
A second U.S. counter-terrorism official said the CIA and other intelligence agencies had given no indication to the White House of “any threat reporting in the last 18 months” involving the Indonesian al Qaeda affiliate, Jemaah Islamiyah.
“Any suggestion that the CIA has not taken the JI threat seriously in recent years is wrong,” said a CIA spokesman. “No one from the CIA has ever said that this terrorist group was completely down and out.”
U.S. officials had been confident that the group had been dismantled after almost of all its leaders were killed or captured in a joint operation involving Indonesian, U.S. and Australian personnel.
“They were quiet but they weren’t dead,” said former White House counter-terrorism official Richard Clarke, an ABC News consultant.

“Captured on camera: The moment suicide bomber blew himself up in luxury Indonesian hotel killing eight”

SNIPPET: “These are the last seconds in the life of one of the two suicide bombers who brought death and carnage to two luxury hotels in the Indonesian capital Jakarta.
Captured on CCTV in the reception of the five-star Ritz Carlton hotel on Friday morning, the man in a baseball cap pulls a small wheelie-bag behind him as nearby porters load baggage on to trolleys.
Moments later, the screen is filled with smoke as the devastating blast rips through the hotel where Manchester United were due to check in on Saturday as part of their Far East tour.”

Wanted
Noordin Mohammad Top
Date of Birth : August 11, 1968
Place of Birth : Johor, Malaysia
Sex : Male
Nationality : Malaysian
Aliases : Noordin Muh Top, Noordin Mat Top, Noordin Din Moch Top
Noordin Mohammad Top is one of the most dangerous members of Jemaah Islamiyah (JI). He is believed to be a top recruiter, strategist, and fundraiser for JI.
Despite being one of the top targets of regional security forces, Noordin has repeatedly escaped their grasp. A Malaysian national, he and Dr. Azahari bin Husin were the masterminds behind several suicide attacks in Indonesia, including the Bali bombings in October of 2005 that injured several Americans. Noordin is also suspected of having orchestrated several other terrorist attacks in Indonesia, including the October 12, 2002 Bali attack, which killed 202 people and injured 209; the August 5, 2003 Marriott Hotel bombing in Jakarta, Indonesia; and the September 9, 2004 bombing of the Australian Embassy in Jakarta, which killed several individuals and wounded over 140 others.
Noordin has been the leading proponent of targeting Western interests in Indonesia. In addition to the two Bali and two Jakarta attacks, Noordin has ordered his operatives to conduct reconnaissance on a large foreign-owned power plant southeast of Surabaya. In January 2006, he announced the formation of a new organization, Tanzim Qaidat al-Jihad, although it is still unclear whether this is a distinctly independent organization from JI.
Noordin has been designated by the U.S. Treasury Department and the UN Security Council as a terrorist financier. He remains one of the most important JI figures at large. He is a charismatic leader and a recruiter, and has proven to be innovative and single-minded in his desire to implement the al-Qaida line and target Western interests.

“Bomb Making Materials Found in Indonesian Islamic School”
By Kenneth Conboy
SNIPPET: “The Indonesian police earlier this week found suspected bomb-making materials hidden underneath a house used by the al-Muaddib Islamic boarding school in Cilacap, Central Java. These materials were uncovered during a second raid on the house performed on 14 July. In addition to chemicals used for making bombs—including sulfur and potassium—they found cables and detonators.
The owner of the building, 60-year-old Bahrudin Latif, reportedly fled before the police conducted their first raid on 23 June. This came after an anonymous source told police that Bahridin’s daughter, Ari Aryani, had married Jemaah Islamiyah fugitive Noordin Top.”

Sex : Male

Aliases : Aris Sumarsono, Zulkarnaen, Daud
Zulkarnaen, whose real name is Aris Sumarsono, is called Daud by fellow militants. U.S. and Indonesian officials stated that Zulkarnaen became operations chief for Jemaah Islamiyah (JI) after the arrest of his alleged predecessor Riduan Isamuddin, also known as Hambali, in Thailand. Zulkarnaen is described by those who know him as a small man of few words.
Zulkarnaen has been identified as possibly the highest ranking leader of the Southeast Asian terrorist group Jemaah Islamiyah. He is believed to head the elite squad that helped carry out the suicide bombing at Jakarta’s Marriott Hotel that killed 12 people in 2003 and helped to prepare the bombs that killed 202 people in Bali in 2002.
Zulkarnaen is one of al-Qaidas point men in Southeast Asia and is one of the few people in Indonesia who have direct contact with Usama bin Ladin’s terror network. Zulkarnaen earned a degree in biology from an Indonesian university, and in the 1980s he was among the first Indonesian militants to go to Afghanistan for training to become an expert in sabotage. Zulkarnaen now leads a squad of militants called Laskar Khos, or special force, whose members were recruited from some 300 Indonesians who trained in Afghanistan and the Philippines.
Zulkarnaen was a protégé of Abdullah Sungkar, founder of JI and the Islamic boarding school al-Mukmin where Zulkarnaen and other senior militants studied. In the mid-1980s, Sungkar sent a small group of Indonesians to Afghanistan to train in a camp led by Mujahidin commander Abdul Rasul Sayyaf. Before Sungkar’s death in 1999, Zulkarnaen was often seen by his mentor’s side, helping to organize conferences and arrange the agenda of the elder radical.
Zulkarnaen is believed to have helped organize fighting in the Maluku islands in the 1990s, and organized a meeting among militants who trained in Afghanistan at different times, enabling them to join forces.

On October 12, 2002, a suicide bomber entered the Sari Nightclub in Bali, Indonesia, and detonated a bomb in his backpack. Fifteen seconds later, those fleeing the club were met with another attack when a powerful car bomb was detonated across the street at Paddys Irish Bar. The final death toll was 202, including seven Americans. These victims were citizens of more than 20 different countries, primarily young tourists on vacation. Hundreds of others suffered severe burns and other injuries. Several members of the Jemaah Islamiyah terrorist group have been convicted in relation to this attack.
Dulmatin is believed to be one of the masterminds responsible for planning these attacks, which comprise the deadliest act of terrorism in Indonesian history. He is an electronics specialist with training in al-Qa’ida camps in Afghanistan, and is a senior figure in the Jemaah Islamiyah terrorist organization.

“Investigation underway in Jakarta following terror strikes; Noordin Top suspected

PHOTO CAPTION: “The head of the JW Marriott hotel bomber, who was identified as Nurdin Aziz .”
SNIPPET: “No group has taken credit for the bombings, but Al Qaeda affiliate Jemaah Islamiyah and the Tanzim Qaedat al-Jihad, a splinter group of Jemaah Islamiyah, are the prime suspects. The targets of the attack - foreigners at posh hotels - and the mode of the attack - near-simultaneous detonations - match the profile of attacks used by the al Qaeda-affiliated groups.
Former Indonesian security chief Hendropriyono, who oversaw the investigation that netted al Qaeda operative Omar al Faruq in 2003, told Metro TV that the strategy and tactics of yesterday’s attacks point to Noordin Mohammed Top’s involvement. Top, a Malaysian national, masterminded the 2005 Bali bombings and is suspected to have split with Jemaah Islamiyah leadership in early 2006 to form the hardline Tanzim Qaedat al-Jihad. He has not been publicly seen or heard from since the appearance of a draft propaganda video he produced in November 2005, shortly after the Bali bombings.
The investigation into yesterday’s attacks is underway, and Detik News reported that a tip led to a potential breakthrough in East Java. Police received a fax accusing the owners of a timber manufacturer in Gresik city of funding the operation. CV Almenta owner Felix, his son-in law Irawan, and Irawan’s younger brother Nanang were detained overnight and are being interrogated. The three suspects deny involvement.”

SNIPPET: “The Marriott and Ritz-Carlton, which are located next door to each other, were reputed to have tight security, in part because of the previous hotel attack six years ago. Metal detectors were stationed at the entrances, while at the Marriott vehicles were not allowed to pull up to the lobby. On occasion, security guards opened the luggage of entering guests. But the terrorists were able to somehow evade the security measures by smuggling in bomb materials. On Saturday, a police spokesman said that one bag carrying the July 17 bomb materials had set off a metal detector but that security guards let it through after the owner said it was just a laptop computer. Spotty enforcement, it appears, is just as common as stringent checks at Jakarta hotels. Just hours after the Friday morning bombings, for instance, another luxury hotel in Jakarta performed a cursory check of an approaching taxi, not even bothering to use a metal-detector wand or mirror to check the underside of the car. A bomb-sniffing dog was on-site but was snoozing beside the security checkpoint.
Indonesia’s state-run news agency reported on Saturday that a security supervisor had actually spoken with one of the bombers, shortly before he blew himself up at the Marriott, asking where he was going with a backpack strapped to his chest while also pulling a wheeled suitcase behind him. The man apparently answered that he needed to deliver something to his boss, according to the Antara News Agency. Eerie closed-circuit video footage from the hotel of the moments before the detonation shows a man strolling through the lobby rolling a suitcase behind him. Seconds later, a burst of light obscures the camera’s view and the room is engulfed in smoke.”

Explosives Used in Hotel Bombing ‘Identical’ to Those Used in Bali

Jakarta, Indonesia (AP) - Explosive material recovered from the scene of two suicide bombings at hotels in the Indonesian capital is “identical” to that used by the Southeast Asian terrorist network Jemaah Islamiyah in earlier attacks, police said.
An unexploded bomb left in a room of the J.W. Marriott in Jakarta resembled devices used in attacks on Bali and one found in a recent raid against the network on an Islamic boarding school in Central Java, national police spokesman told a news conference Sunday.
