Toomey Ties Specter In Pennsylvania ; More Say New Democrat Does Not Deserve Another Term
Quinnipiac University Polling Institute ^ | July 22, 2009

Posted on 07/22/2009 5:22:13 AM PDT by reaganaut1

Pennsylvania Sen. Arlen Specter's 2010 reelection lead over Republican challenger Pat Toomey has shrunk to a tie with 45 percent for Specter and 44 percent for Toomey, according to a Quinnipiac University poll released today. And voters say 49 - 40 percent that Sen. Specter does not deserve reelection.

President Barack Obama gets a 56 - 37 percent job approval, compared to 62 - 31 percent in a May 28 survey by the independent Quinnipiac (KWIN-uh-pe-ack) University. By a bare 50 - 43 percent majority, voters approve of the President's handling of the economy.

Specter, first elected to the Senate as a Republican in 1980 but who switched to the Democratic Party earlier this year, holds a commanding 55 - 23 percent lead over U.S. Rep. Joe Sestak in the race for the Democratic nomination. On the Republican side Toomey buries Peg Luksik 47 - 6 percent.

On May 4, Specter led Toomey 53 - 33 percent in a trial heat; his favorable unfavorable ratio among Pennsylvania voters was 52 - 34 percent and voters said 49 - 41 percent he deserved reelection. In a May 28 Quinnipiac University poll, Specter led Toomey 46 - 37 percent.

"Sen. Arlen Specter's 20-point lead over former Congressman Pat Toomey less than three months ago has virtually vanished," said Peter A. Brown, assistant director of the Quinnipiac University Polling Institute.

"Voters see Sen. Specter much less favorably than they once did and are net negative about giving him a sixth term in the U.S. Senate. Independent voters have shifted narrowly to Toomey 46 - 42 percent and say 53 - 35 percent that Specter does not deserve reelection."

Impossible. I was told here months ago that Toomey couldn’t win and that we needed Tom Ridge or some other progressive in order to beat Specter.

McCain, Graham, the twin witches from Maine and a few others are still out there. Sphincter is not the last, not by a long shot.

I don’t give a rats behind whether a Republican wins if he is a liberal(Ridge). To define yourself as a Republican or Democrat is so mindless. I am a conservative. I vote for conservatives. In the past I’ve voted for the lesser of 2 evils(Specter) and what has that gotten me? I also voted for McCain and had he won we would probably have gotten cap and trade and socialized medicine anyway. Keep the liberals in the Democratic Party.

Obama can't get Specter any more than he already has. OTOH, with the buyer's remorse starting to bubble up, Obama may actually drive voters toward Toomey.

Philadelphia is one of ACORN’s largest, most productive vote-manufacturing plants. You can’t win a state-wide election in Pennsylvania unless you stop them. Period, end of story.

Precisely ... imaginary voters don’t answer polls. By the time ACORN is done — not to mention standard Large City Dem vote fraud, Specter probably will have added 2-5 points to his tally.

As much as it distresses me, I might just have to keep my registration Democrat to vote for Arlen Spincter. I soooo want to force him in a rematch with Pat Toomey. The state knows him well. They don't know so much about his snake-in-the-grass opponent Joe Sestak.

I guess it is going to boil down to who is leading in the governor's race. Last I heard, Tom Corbett (our guy) held a safe lead over any probable opponents from RINO country. Do any of yunz know the current skinny?

Think back to the 2006 Santorum/Casey election. Casey’s lead in the closing days of the race was between 4-7 points. He ended up winning by 19. If that’s not massive vote fraud, nothing is.

If we don’t have a strategy to confront this head-on and stop these animals, they’re going to kill this country. In a few short years, they’ll be imposing their will on our children.

No other issue matters if we no longer have free elections. As long as ACORN exists and has its way, we don’t.

Spectre (incorrect spelling intentional) looks like he is DOA even as a D. Instead of retiring respectfully when it was obvious he was going to lose the R nomination he tried to once again put himself above all, and ran the the D’s.

If the D’s are smart, they will run someone other than Spectre next year. Spectre completely alienated all R voters in the state at this point, the D’s who crossed the isle and voted for him when he was an R now view him as a turncoat and many of them won’t vote for him, and the middle folks he won’t get enough of.

Best Spectre can hope for is a razor thin win in the general, but the conservatives will by and large be rabidly behind Toomey, and Spectre tied himself to Fauxbama in his last acts pushing through his stimulus, and as we know that’s worked out great.

Given that I don’t think Spectre can win PA no matter what letter is beside his name at this point.

I suspect you are right, if Spectre does not run as a D in the primary unopposed, I doubt he'll win the D primary. Of course Fauxbama and his minions aren't beyond strong arming their own party to ensure he does run unopposed if they want it to be that way.

That may be and I respect that but he was a Clinton plant in our district and has voted far left on every piec of legislation so far, including porkulus, cap and tax and now healthcare. We are not seeing the promised jobs, only the runaway costs. Those are the facts that will be pinned on him.
