Louisiana casinos won $193 million from gamblers in June, a 14 percent decline from the $225 million haul in May and a nearly 10 percent drop from last year's June haul of $214 million, State Police reported Tuesday.

Winnings were down at all New Orleans area casinos between May and June. The only metro area gambling hall to post a gain between June 2008 and June 2009 was the Fair Grounds Race Course and Slots, which was still in its infancy this time last year.

The state's riverboats reported a 12 percent decline in revenue in June compared with May 2009 and a 10.6 percent drop when compared with June 2008. Revenue was down at both New Orleans area riverboats, the Boomtown New Orleans and the Treasure Chest Casino.

If Texas ever lets Galveston and the reservations open casinos LA is going to really feel it. But I don’t see that happening anytime soon.

As the public gets to keep less and less of their earned money, all leisure industries will suffer and it will only get worse until we remove O.

Harrah’s won’t get any of my tears if they go under.

Word on the street is that the Big H (or the holding company that owns the Big H) is waiting for commercial real estate to rebound before they start selling their properties. If true, Harrah's is already dead.

Why should I go to N.O. to lose money when I can do that in my own state?

I don’t have a problem with people wanting to gamble, but I think the more places you can go to for gambling just makes everybody else’s piece of the pie smaller. But yet they continue to want to expand the gambling choices.

I’ll won’t worry about their lose.

They’ve only spent about 20% of the stimulus. They should be turning around soon as that money gets into the welfare system.
