Mike Huckabee's Huck Pac 'Restructuring;' Longtime Aide Laid Off
Arkansas Business.com ^ | 7-23-09 | Jan Cottingham

Posted on 07/23/2009 11:53:02 AM PDT by TitansAFC

Former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee's political action committee, Huck Pac, is undergoing a "restructuring," Executive Director Sarah Huckabee said Wednesday.

The restructuring includes the loss of at least one longtime Huckabee aide, Wendy Dooley; the apparent disappearance as a separate entity of the Vertical Politics Institute, a think tank Huckabee formed last year; and the move of VPI's chief to the campaign of Curtis Coleman, a Republican weighing a run against Sen. Blanche Lincoln, D-Ark.

Huck Pac hasn't filed any quarterly financial reports for 2009 with the Federal Election Commission. The political action committee's mission, according to its Web site, is to raise money for "Republican candidates who are passionate advocates for tax reform, a strong national defense, real border security, life, the family, less government, and individual liberty."

Documents filed by the committee with the Federal Election Commission appear to reveal a quadrupling of debt in the last six months of 2008. As of June 30, 2008, Huck Pac reported a debt of $15,000 compared with a debt of $62,293.14 as of Dec. 31, 2008, the latest full report available.

Sarah Huckabee, Mike Huckabee's daughter, said, "We've managed our resources and our team as frugally as possible and we like to be respectful of our donors and the faith they put in us when they give us money. So we've restructured our office but we're not going to stop any activities that we've been doing."

Dooley said her last day of work was July 15. Asked how long she had worked for the former governor, Dooley said she wasn't sure. Asked whether she had quit or been laid off, Dooley said, "I really need to talk to someone before I can answer this."

Sarah Huckabee said Huck Pac wasn't necessarily laying off anyone, but asked specifically about Dooley, Sarah Huckabee acknowledged Dooley had been laid off..................

Huck? Mitt?

You there?

Look, don't run OK? We are really over the RINO thing right now. We would like some actual conservatives to look to for leadership. You two just aren't it.

Thanks.

Have a really, really, really nice day!

Huck Pac paid Holtzman Vogel PLLC $8,000 late last year for legal advice.

Holtzman specializes in: counseling and compliance services to individuals, corporations, non-profit organizations, trade associations, PACs and candidates who are engaged in influencing the public policy arena in Washington and across the nation.

I’ll bet Huck Pac buying copies of Huckabee’s book, called for some legal guidance. Especially if the tens of thousands of dollars paid for “direct mail” was actually advertising a “free” book if you donate money to Huck Pac.

It is time for Romney to hit the road and quit trying to destroy conservatism and Huckabee in that interview said,

HUCKABEE: Well, she may be the person I get behind. You know, it may be a lot more fun to support somebody than it is to go out and be that person. It is a grueling, incredibly demanding schedule to run for president, and the risks are high. I love what I'm doing. I have no idea, my future, and you know, I'm not about to do anything other than right now, I hope Sarah Palin does extremely well because I think she's an important voice for our party.

As a longtime Romneybot you are still showing a streak of dishonesty. Huckabee never had a whispering campaign against Romney or Palin.

Mitt Romney and his campaign have been facing very real charges of such a thing including a very nasty phone campaign against himself in an effort to smear his opponents by them being blamed for it.

-—”Huckabee never had a whispering campaign against Romney or Palin.”-—

Who's being dishonest here?

Huckabee plays dirty, using the old trick of damning with praise. His recent attempt to spread the meme that Sarah Palin might run as a Third-Party candidate was as dirty as you can play (”Gosh, I sure hope Sarah stays in the GOP and doesn’t make a Third-Praty run - I heard she might do that”). Sarah Palin has NEVER given ANY indication she would EVER run as a Third Party candidate. She has been a registered Republican for as long as she has been old enough to vote. Huck purposefully spread a rumor he knew was not true, there is simply no denying this.

Yes, Romney plays the game dirty sometimes, too. Romney's weapon of choice is the proxy (”That was Mitt's campaign manager/cousin/former employee/fundraiser/whatever......he had nothing to do with it!”). As a “longtime Romneybot (your words, not mine),” I take a lot of flack sometimes for pointing-out the obvious with respect to Mitt's methods. I call it like I see it, and how it is.

As John McCain said during the campaign - this is a rough-and-tumble sport. I like a candidate who'll take the gloves off. That being said, Romney's proxys make direct attacks, whereas Huckabee gossips and spreads vicious rumors. I think the latter is worse when used against Party allies, even in the spirit of competition.

Huckabee and Rush Limbaugh both sent out a signal about third parties after that announcement, I took them both as more of an effort to quiet all the people including many here that keep clamoring for Palin to lead their third party fantasies, remember that crowd was going crazy with speculation that week.
I noticed you didn’t even try and defend your lie against Huckabee doing vicious “whisper campaigns” against Mitt Romney and he hasn’t done one against Palin either, your man Mitt though has been having to deal with very real and serious claims that he has been running an incredibly nasty “whisper campaign” against Governor Palin and that fits his style.

In that interview Huckabee also said that he might get behind Governor Palin, that is not something that Mitt Romney would say.

Mitt Romney is playing hardball and he is definitely against Palin in every way.

Being a Romney guy, you are searching for any avenue that can help you push him past any and all obstacles.

Oh really.

Who raised $750,000 in five months for her PAC? (and doesn’t live in the lower 48)

She has been to the lower 48 ONLY TWICE, since the election.

Sarah went to Evansville, Indiana, and sold out the venue, and they had to put 2,000 people in an anjoining hall so they could watch her on TV, give her speech. (which was an incredible speech)

She went to Auburn,NY, the belly of the beast, (Democrats), and in a sleepy town of approx. 10,000, 20,000 people showed up to watch her march in the Founder’s Parade. I watched the news converage. LIVE........ some people drove 3 hours to see her........one man, interviewed, voted for Obama. The reporter asked why he was there. He said, “She is going to make history, and I wanted to see her.”

Sarah raised $35,000 for the Seward Museum in Auburn NY..........how did she do this? She charged people $150 bucks to have their picture made with her...........

You name one Conservative that can do this? Name one?

There aren’t any...........except Sarah..........

We are starting to pencil in dates and events for the next Presidential cycle. Governor Palin has no people or organization to represent her. It is (presumed) Romney people who are covering for her. They could not be more gracious or more fair. They are bending over backward to give her a shot at this.

If you are attempting to claim that Romney never plays dirty, you aren’t going to win a convert here. I’m no internet-only member of the electorate; neither am I forgetful of the last campaign. I certainly ain’t going to buy the idea that Mitt Romney and his team are trying to help his most powerful opponent win. Redstate, for example, has been busting former Romney team members for some pretty harsh anti-Plain stuff for quite some time.

Also, as someone who literally went DOOR-TO-DOOR for Mitt Romney during the primary, I can see it’s going to be a struggle yet again getting people to realize that one of the hardest problems we had was reconciling the questions and mistrust of the potential Romney convert with the “Mitt is pure as the driven snow, and anyone who says he’s ever done anything that wasn’t true to Conservatism is spreading lies” position of all-too-many of his grassroots supporters.

No, I'm just relating what my narrow experience has been. These are not "official" Romney people, either. They are people who strongly supported Romney last year and probably will again (many are Mormon). They have been outstandingly cooperative as far as Palin is concerned.

I'm not sure what it means. It could be that that they are open to a Palin run (with or without Romney), or that they are having second thoughts about Mitt. They are adamant about planning for a long primary season which would indicate that Palin is still in the thick of it. They are being extremely protective of her.

Deconstructed? It was a DIRECT QUOTE! No such “deconstructing” ever happened.

And you’re either being purposefully dumb or outright deceitful in pretending that Huckabee was merely getting ready to throw his suppprt Sarah Palin’s way when he used his usual damning-with-praise technique to spread a vicious rumor he knew was not true.

By the way, I seriously hope ansel12 doesn’t take-up that Huffington Post job I’ve heard rumored ansel12 might take. After all, ansel12 has been a great voice as a poster for Free Republic, and after all of ansel12’s efforts to advance Conservatism, it would be a shame. Ansell, are you thick or what?!! It's disingenuous for you to even think Huckabee didn't open his fat mouth about Romney's religion.

Huckabee questions Romney's Mormon faith Wed Dec 12, 2007 10:49pm EST

By Joanne Kenen

WASHINGTON, Dec 12 (Reuters Life!) - Republican presidential candidate Mike Huckabee said he considers his rival Mitt Romney's Mormon faith a religion, not a cult, but questioned whether Mormons believe "Jesus and the devil are brothers."

Huckabee raised the question on his own in an interview to appear in The New York Times magazine on Sunday, and ignited a new flap in the up-for-grabs race to be the Republican Party's nominee in the November 2008 presidential election.

Huckabee was asked if he considered Mormonism a cult or a religion. "I think it's a religion," he said in the interview, published on the newspaper's Web site on Wednesday. "I really don't know much about it."

Then he asked: "Don't Mormons believe that Jesus and the devil are brothers?"

Huckabee, a Baptist minister and former Arkansas governor, has surged in public opinion polls and is now ahead of Romney in polls in Iowa, which holds its caucus, the first test of the U.S. state-by-state nominating season, on Jan 3.

Romney responded with a sharp attack on Huckabee's positions on issues such as immigration and taxing and spending. "I think Mike was desperately hoping we would get through this without people taking a close look at his positions and his record," he said.

After a debate in Iowa on Wednesday, Huckabee apologized for the comment, made before Romney gave a major speech last week trying to dispel fears about his church, known as The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, particularly among conservative Christians, a key voting bloc.

"I went to Mitt Romney and apologized to him, because I said, I would never try, ever, to try to somehow pick out some point of your faith and make it, you know, an issue," he said on CNN.

He added the comment was taken out of context during a long conversation with the Times reporter. "I asked the question, because I had heard that, and I asked it not to create something. I never thought it would make the story."

In an appearance on Fox News Channel, Romney said he accepted the apology for what he said was a "traditional smear" on the Mormon faith.

"We really shouldn't be attacking a person's religion in this nation," Romney added. "I think Americans are going to ultimately shy away from any effort to define candidates based on their faith."

Religious scholars said under Mormonism all of God's children are brothers and sisters, including Jesus and Satan, but Satan would be considered a disinherited member of God's family who was cast out of God's presence for eternity.

"Spiritually, all God's children are brothers and sisters, so Huckabee would also be the brother of Satan," said Francis Beckwith, who teaches a course on politics and religion at Baylor University in Waco, Texas.

"The way it was expressed by Huckabee is a crude way of putting something that is more complicated than that," he said. "It would be like saying under Catholicism they eat Jesus' flesh. It's a sensationalist way of presenting it."

You're a real sucker for the passive/aggressive attacks defenses aren't you?

If you can't see what Huckabee was doing here, and with the Palin rumor-mongering, you're either being purposefully blind or trying to spin (cause you know, the Baptist minister had no idea what the Mormons believed, even with his years of Theological study and interfaith dialog).

He wanted it in print, and he wanted it there with plausible deniability. He did the same with the “Please don't leave the Party, Sarah” farce. It's called being passive/aggressive, and Huckabee is a pro at it.

The whole point of being passive/aggressive is to pretend you “didn't mean anything by it.” Huckabee does it waaaaaay too often for anyone to pretend it's unintentional. I'm not buying that he's as naive and Forrest Gump-ish as he wants everyone to think he is. He is a smart man, and no neophyte.

The context is that on an hours long ride, alone with the interviewer who is a religious expert and writer that had just published his book on Jews and Evangelicals months before, the interviewer knew more about Mormons than Huckabee.

During the hours of conversation they had on the long drive the simple, ordinary question about Mormon theology was asked. If you think it isn’t a valid question that a Christian might have about Mormonism then post it in the religion section and watch things unfold.

Now go back and look at post 27 to get an idea of how the media works.
