Police Sgt. James Crowley told WHDH-TV that scholar Henry Louis Gates Jr. was "agitated" when he arrested for disorderly conduct.

Sgt. Crowley said he tried to speak to Gates, however he responded "why, am I black man?" Sgt. was also called a "racist." Crowley said this response is not one he would expect from a reasonable person

As the situation progressed, Gates became increasingly frustrated. As Sgt. Crowley was leaving, he said, Gates told him "he picked the wrong guy to mess with" and "I'll see your momma on the porch.

When it comes to his comments about Gates after the health care speech, zero should have kept his lips buttoned. He has substantially aggravated the situation by saying that the police acted “stupidly” and is rightfully taking the heat for it. He said he didn’t know the details of the arrest and should have left it at that, but his ego wouldn’t let him.

Once again, zero has proven that he is a racist jerk and an idiot.

This is key. The Sergeant apparently had considered the incident over at this point. Gates (reluctantly) provided the requested identification and it proved that he was the resident of the house. The cops were going to leave it at that. But Gates just couldn't let it go.

Gates was not arrested inside his house but outside when he followed the cops - who were attempting to leave the residence - out the front door and began berating them. The cops basically said "Enough" and arrested him for disorderly conduct (not breaking and entering).

Gates just couldn't keep damn mouth shut. He just had to have the last word on the subject and "agitate, agitate, agitate." Like I read on other posts on this subject, he should have been grateful that someone was concerned that his property was being threatened. But no, instead he escalated the situation by throwing racism around and pushing the old "don't you know who I am?" button and it got his dumb ass arrested.

Anyway, that's how I see it.

The thing that surprises me the most is that there is no indication that the police ever drew their weapons. Responding to a break-in report and seeing someone inside the house, I wold have imagined that they would have prepared for violent action.
