Crowd of 1,000+ turns out for Palin's Wasilla picnic
Texas for Sarah Palin ^ | Saturday, July 25, 2009 | Josh Painter

Posted on 07/25/2009 5:19:13 AM PDT by Josh Painter

Dwarfing the numbers that traditionally show up for the governor's annual picnic in Wasilla, Alaska, more than a thousand people turned out Friday for Gov. Sarah Palin's last such event that she will host as governor in her hometown.

Some in the crowd came from as far away from Wasilla as Louisiana and Texas. Adrienne Ross, media director, New York State organizer and an executive board member of the 2012 Draft Sarah Committee was there, and she posted an after action report with lots of photos on her blog Motivation Truth here.

Alaskan Tammy Swofford was also there, and she blogged it (also with photos) here. another Alaskan, June, who blogs at Sunhusky's Alaska, blogged with photos here. Another Alaskan transplant, Ben Wargo, blogged it here.

As for the legacy media, KTUU's story and video is here. KTVA's story is here. The AP story is here. Raw AP video of the governor signing autographs, serving hot dogs and mingling with the crowd is here. A video of her speech to the crowed is here.

After the picnic, the governor tweeted:

"Great 3rd(& final) Governor's Picnic in hometown tonite;loved the focus: honoring military&Blue Star families;no politickin' just patriotism"
Looking ahead to the Saturday and Sunday picnics, Gov. Palin sent this message:
"Tomrrw host Anch Gov's Picnic; LtGov Parnell/I love these events- literally getting to serve you! Then Sunday Frbnks Picnic/Transition speech"

No, you’re not. I’ve always heard that about southern Baptists. I went to a christian school in Oklahoma and one of my classmates told me that this SB guy came up to her and told her she was going to hell for wearing pants. She couldn’t believe it, neither could I. We just steered clear of him for the rest of our schooling. I imagine his head has been exploding for the past 11 months now.

I don’t see that. I am Baptist and I know a Baptist preacher and many, many Baptist friends and all are for her.

Whenever I visit a Baptist church on a Sunday, I make sure I’m wearing a dress or skirt for that very reason! Just trying to be respectful and abide by their customs.

If she knew football like she knows politics, she’d be wearing a Giants sweatshirt.

It might be where you live. We are about as isolated and rural as you can get. But then again, my preacher friend may be an anomaly and just letting his 'man bias' get in the way.

That’s silly. I have been to Baptist churches many times and women wear pants and even jeans.

Not around here they don’t!
Maybe on Wednesday nite bible study, but on Sundays, the tradition of “Sunday Best” still holds.

Nothing wrong with that. I haven’t worn a dress since ‘93 and my church is casual dress.

You can remind your friends that the Lord raised up Esther to save the Jews from destruction. In the New Testament, woman aren’t supposed to be over men in ministry/teaching the Word. Maybe Sarah is being ‘raised up’ for a similar reason; to save the US from destruction.

I'm beginning to think a lot of these folks would prefer she stay in the kitchen, so to speak, and not be an example or leader.

She's done her time in kitchen. Five kids prove that. And I would not consider any media-overblown family issues as disqualifiers for any goals or dreams she may entertain.

While I am not a fan of ordaining women for reasons(Scripturally based) that I will not delve into here, I think that care needs to be exercised when trying to bring Scriptural prohibitions into areas where they may not apply, such as women in elective office. What I see Sarah doing is filling a vacuum of leadership and character created by compromising RINOS such Huckabee and Romney and McCain and the rest. What really shines her star is her credibility. She doesn't have to proclaim that she is one of us, we know it instinctively! And we laugh when these other RINO clowns choke on their own proclamations of commonality. They are pitifully transparent. We are so over them.

I think your friend is just jealous because he's not Todd Palin!

Anybody got a Youtube clip of this? If all of this is true it's time to get The Huckster fired from Fox News or stop watching them.

Nope, do not see it on Youtube. But the Democrats continue to act like a bunch of sexist pigs. This guy was a bigshot from Biden's campaign. Not sure what his name was, but he should have had his butt handed too him for such a sexist comment.

That’s how I like to think of it about her.

But at the same time, if a woman is called to preach the Word-I don’t have the least problem with it. The usual “rules” don’t apply in the end times, imo. God will use whom He will.

Very well put, Tonytitan!!
She is indeed filling a vacuum! Much like Debra, when there was no man with a spine to lead Israel, she took up the slack.

As for my friend....he certainly ain’t no Todd, that’s fer sure! LOL
Sarah is one lucky gal! ; )

LOL! That's kind of like the kid who get caught with his hand in the cookie jar just as dad walks into the room.

It would seem that if you're going to disobey Gods directives, just as he's 'walking' into the door isn't the best time to do so.

We both err in assuming to know the mind of God.
We’ll all know the truth one of these days. But I am sure of my salvation just as you are of yours.
I ain’t up to a theological debate right now, it won’t change my mind or yours.
I gots to get to work now to support my younguns.
Have a bless’d day, Mr. Eagle.
