AUSTIN Kay Bailey Hutchison slammed Rick Perry's decision four months ago to reject $555 million in economic stimulus money to help the unemployed, saying Friday that it was "reckless" and showed a lack of both leadership and judgment.
"This is yet another Rick Perry disaster," Hutchison said in a written statement.
When she was first asked about the governor's decision in March to turn down the money, she gently chastised him for not coming up with a better solution.
Perry spokesman Mark Miner said the senator has not been clear on where she stands.
"She's playing a game of Washington politics, and that's not going to play here in Texas. She's taken several positions on the same issue," Miner said.

I’m curious regarding your views on Gov Perry. Would you elaborate?
PS KBH is a twit and a ‘mole’
Typical rino. Perhaps if KBH would start ‘slamming’ democrats instead of republicans and conservatives she would have a future.
(eye roll)
I agree with you. At the very least she should keep her mouth shut about other Republicans.
She’s already over stayed her welcome here. Time for her to go.
>> As much as I can’t stomach Perry, KBH is far worse.
That’s my conclusion. And Huckabee (a.k.a. “McCain II”) in her corner isn’t helping to change my mind, either.
You know and we know that the whole stimulus thing is a bunch of BS, so stop defending it.
Kay Bailey is worthless.
KBH: Half Human. Half Northerner. All RINO.
I though it was block the border fence, Kay Baily Hutchinson , The Texas Witch. I always said bitch but someone, probably on her staff, objected.
I’m with you. It’s like trying to figure out who to root for when the Eagles play the Redskins. They’re both evil, but at this time the Eagles are more eviler. That said, as much as Perry hacks me off sometimes, he was better than Kinky, one Nutty Grandma, anything the Rats put up, and he’s better than KBH. I’ll have a lot easier time pulling the lever for Perry than I had pulling it for McCain.
And why would she want to run against Perry?
I don't have a good feeling about her just based on those things and I don't know that much about her voting record.
She runs as a "fiscal conservative" while voting with libs to raise taxes and deny freedom.
Watch carefully how she votes for Sotomayor.
“I heard that KBH refused to accept an anti-nationalized health care petition from tea party people in Dallas recently.”
If true, she is toast here in Texas unless she finds a ‘spoiler’ and I am sure Huckabee is advising her on just how to do that. They all make me sick. Perry has his faults too..but not like her. At least he has some fight and spine left in him, which is what we need right now. KBH as governor of this great state would be an utter nightmare.
Perry has veered hard right. I haven’t seen what KBH will do, yet. Right now, what we’ll see is not what the candidates actually believe, but what they think will get them elected. If KBH runs a moderate McCain campaign, I think she’s misreading Texan viewpoints. Even in Texas, though, the McCain moderate/Rockefeller wing is very strong in the Metroplex power circles. They just can’t get anyone elected. So, they pretend to be conservative. KBH is most likely the strongly preferred candidate in those circles.
Are you a Texan? Because if you are, I gotta say you Texans are spoiled. Perry is about 26 billion times better than the Republican governor we have here in California.
I met Perry yesterday and was impressed. His views on tort reform, the 10th Amendment, illegals, business regulation, and taxes seem sensible. Also, he’s an Aggie which should irritate my UT relatives.
Any Governor who is willing to invoke the 10th amendment in order to reject Obamacare is okay in my book.
KBH lost respect from us a long time ago.
Truer Words. Never spoken.
I know a number of people and some family members who reside in various ones.
For the most part, they are NOT RINOs, except for one or two. One is a woman who is very pro-KBH and despises Perry. I know that he's another wussie but certainly preferable to KBH any day!
You are correct. I vowed I’d not vote for Rick Perry again. But I’m NOT voting for a Democrat, and I’m NOT voting for Kay. We’ll see who’s on the ballot when the time comes.
Yes, that’s impressive. I think we should congratulate the those who realized that this amendment gives legal basis for rejection of Obama’s anti-Constitutionalism.
KBH doesn’t “get it”.
She doesn’t understand that the fedgov is not supposed to be a big, benevolent being that hands out goodies.
Also, those goodies always come with strings.
Always.
They both stink. Posers.
Same here.
“As much as I can’t stomach Perry, KBH is far worse.”
Agreed. Perry strikes me as an arrogant, narcissistic boob with no real convictions, but at least he is trying to run to Kay Baby’s right.
Kay Baby must be hoping that many Democrats will vote in the Republican primary. Otherwise, she would stay in the Senate.
This Texan will be voting for Perry warts and all. I don’t like that he tried to force Gardisil on pre-teen girls and tried to let a company in Spain build and run the TTC. Still he is far better for Texas than KBH. The last straw was when KBH was at a women’s forum with Hillary Clinton in Dallas a few months ago.
Perry has never acted to stop the flow of illegals into Texas. If he is serious though about exempting Texas from Obamacare, I have to vote for him.
I wouldn’t vote for KBH if she was the last person to vote for on earth.
I do not intend to take your thread off topic, but I need to solicit some opinions from the txgov2010 ping list on whether or not an article like this is directly related to the governor’s race and should be pinged or if it’s just typical mud slinging in preparation for actual campaigning and should not be pinged. Thanks in advance for your patience.
Please let me know if this article does or does not fit the purpose of our txgov2010 ping list. If you're indifferent, no need to respond. If you have a strong opinion one way of the other, please speak up so I can gauge what we're looking for in the way of campaign news.
Thanks,
Tex
Freepmail me or ping me from the original thread to get on/off the 2010 Texas Governor's Race ping list.
Fits. No question.
KBH gone nuts ping.
“So, they pretend to be conservative”
You’ve got that right. KBH seemed sorta, kinda conservative a few years back, but I think it was definitely not real, and she has shown her true colors more and more the last couple of years.
KBH is terrible and liberal and stupid and bad for Texas. I rest my case.
This article is a great example to keep us Texans informed. I recently sent two letters to KBH and after a long time, I received back a form letter that had nothing to do with the issues I addressed.
I told her if she didn’t sponsor or join a bill for term limits or if she took lobby money from any source or voted for a health care plan other than one she and all gov. employees joined, that I would vote against her and all incumbents who did likewise.
Back in Clinton’s day I wrote her a blistering letter because she did not stand up to him on bombing the Serbs. Is it verified that she plans on running for Gov? Inquiring minds want to know.
I think she plans to make her formal announcement next month, but yes, it’s pretty much confirmed. She has a $12.5 million war chest at this point, most of which she transferred from her federal senate campaign funds.
I asked for a refund of my senate donations. She’s not using my senate donation for governor. Forget that.
Kay Bailey Hutchison, the pro-abortion, pro-pornography, senator from American Airlines should have been sent packing long ago.
Huckabee is worse than she is. He’s more liberal than her or McCain.
Oh, my !!
Kay Bailey is wonderful and she loves the state of Texas whereas Rick Perry loves Rick Perry. And he lied about the stimulus pkg. Said he would not accept any part of it. Then requested part of the stimulus pkg.

REMEMBER THIS, FELLOW TEXANS:
One reason DHS has been able to do this is an amendment that Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison (R.-Texas) slipped into an omnibus appropriations bill that Congress passed on December 18, 2007. Hutchisons amendment put a loophole in the fence law that allowed the secretary of Homeland Security not to build the fence Congress had mandated the year before. http://www.cnsnews.com/news/article/43422
