Savannah, NY (--The parents of a Central New York soldier who recently finished training at Fort Leonard Wood are seeking to block her overseas deployment, alleging that an Army recruiter misled the family.
the parents of Hillary J. Poole of Savannah, filed a federal lawsuit Friday in Springfield, Mo.
Poole is scheduled to be shipped Thursday to St. Louis. From there, she is slated to go to Germany before arriving in Afghanistan in October.
The suit says Poole's mother signed her name and her husband's name to enlistment papers in February after being told that the paperwork simply allowed the Army to take her then 17-year-old daughter for an overnight evaluation. The suit says her father never gave consent.
A Fort Leonard Wood spokesman says the Army won't be able to comment before Monday.
Hey, push the birth certificate issue, that one seems to work.
ditto
No kidding, Just what I was thinking.
She did go through Basic and stuff right? This is not like they signed some papers a week ago and now their daughter is on the front lines or something.
exacry
If I had a kid right now, I would say NO to the military as an option until we get a CinC who actually seems sane.
Drop a dime to Orly?
Hope they set up camp outside the Obama’s Martha’s Vineyard
rental home.
And cares about winning!
I think that would be impossible. Unless 'outside' means anywhere within a 50 mile radius.
The obama's (like the other DEM politicians) go to Martha's Vineyard because it is an EXCLUSIVE COMMUNITY.
and thinks victory is the objective, yes that would be a top priority for a sane leader
Yeah. They mislead me too. They drafted me. But I fooled them. I joined the Navy.
You would have to be nuts to go in the army under Barack Insane Obama. The rules of engagement will soon be, you can not engage the enemy until you are dead.
How long was she enlisted and getting paid before they protested this? It sounds like they are protesting only now that she is being deployed.
My brother quit the Navy on a similar complaint. The recruiter told him he would get a degree, and the Navy doesn’t give degrees. I was there, so I know the recruiter lied in his case. When he found out the Navy wouldn’t give him a degree, we had our congressman send a congressional inquiry into the matter and the navy gave him an honorable discharge.
But I hear if you challenge Obama’s eligibility that works too.
That’s a long overnight evaluation going on since February...
Usually I would agree. But the kids today are risking their lives for their country, regardless if we currently have an idiot, POS president. That’s why I respect them. They know the deal. Our SecDef seems to hold his own against Obeyme and that might be a small consolation, but those new kids need it.
On this Ny daughter who’s using that lame excuse, F*** her. This is like going to fireman school and it’s absurd to say that you will never be assigned to a station 100 miles away from your district.
But there wasn't supposed to be war under Obama. What could be safer than seeing the world under the command of the world's favorite Kenyan?
Was your brother in Basic or finished with it?
No need to post anything after that
He finished it. He loved basic. When he got up to Great Lakes Illinois and started studying, is when he found out that he wouldn’t get a degree like the recruiter had promised. So he quit. If they told him to pick up a broom, he would pick it up and then drop it. He turned 21 in command restriction. They had a psychiatrist evaluate him and he told my brother, “Well, you’re not crazy, but you are the most stuborn individual I have ever met.” LOL
In response to the congressional inquiry, the Navy gave him an honorable discharge, but they put on in reason for discharge, “burden to command”. lol He didn’t contest the reason, he was just happy to be out. And he wasn’t about to be deployed anytime soon either.
I know what this is all about. The recruiters TELL potential enlistees that they will go for a physical and that if they pass, they are IN the service. (It happened to my son. The recruiter said it to me.) This, I am sad to say, was and is an untruth. There are papers that must be signed AFTER passing the physical. These are the ones that put the recruit irrefutably IN the service. The recruit decides not to sign, the recruit is not enlisted. The recruit here fell for the recuiter's line. I love the military, but recruiters are under pressure to perform, and this article shows what can happen. The recruiter who was involved with my son got frog-marched into other duty. I don't know if it was for his lies, or not, but he was gone.
How long ago was that? Was the Navy paying for college then?
I used an M1911 at Ft Dix/McGuire AFB during Desert Sheild, shortly before I deployed myself.
That would have been about 1980.
I know the Navy had some programs to pay for college, because they made me an offer to pay for my college if I would enlist when I finished college. It wouldn’t surprise me if they had a college reimbursement program too. But that wasn’t what was promised.
Dad grilled the recruiter and asked him “When did the Navy start giving degrees” and the recruiter said “Oh a while back.” The Navy does not give degrees.
...boy, you just can’t make this stuff up (which is sad)....
BS lawsuit. The military would have let her eventually go home or drummed her out.
BAD legal arguement! Have someone tell them that she cannot deploy because Obama is NOT the legal Commander-in-Chief! At least there is successful PRECEDENT for that!
Dad grilled the recruiter and asked him When did the Navy start giving degrees and the recruiter said Oh a while back. The Navy does not give degrees.
Well, the Navy does give degrees.
It’s called Annapolis.
I had a friend in college that was lied to by an Army recruiter. He told her that she would definitely get a specific job, but after basic, guess what? That’s not where they were going to send her. She contacted the news media and her Congressnman, made a real stink. She got out but during the time she was fighting it and waiting to out process, you will never believe what they assigned her to do. They sent her to OH as a recruiter!
When our daughter was a senior in high school the recruiters called frequently. I kept telling them she was 4’10” and weighed 95b lbs and that she was a musician, a cellist. One of them said she could play in the Army Band, I hung up.
Let her go. Most women don’t belong in the military to begin with, especially those who don’t want be there in the first place.
At what age can a kid join the Army without parental consent these days? Does the age vary between the services?
LOL
The Air FOrce does grant degrees. Check out CCAF, the credits transfer and everything.
I’m missing something in your story.
What is so terrible about having to sign a second time? Isn’t it better to have another chance to change your mind?
obama cares about winning. It's just that he's rooting for his side, the Taliban and Al Qaeda, not for America.
How could you if they decide for themselves? At 18, they can.
I would have to guess that if they are trying to block her deployment that she agrees or there wouldn’t be a story... right?
I couldn’t obviously. I would try to discourage it if the Prez is a wingnut.
Maybe and then again maybe not. Article had not one word
from the daughter. It was all, we were duped, we were lied
to, I committed fraud by signing my husband’s name.
Maybe the daughter is one of those kids that learned about
duty and honor in spite of her parents.
Maybe.
Mike
It seems some people want to join the armed services, just to receive the benefits, but when the tough gets going, especially to a warzone, they no longer want to go. When they signed up, they knew that was always a possibility.
Basic and AIT, if she’s deploying.
Demand the birth certificate and you are home free.
APPARENTLY the mother cheated/committed fraud on the paperwork-’BOOK HER’
Give her the lowest discharge/separation they can get away with and boot her, such as unsuitable, less than honorable, etc.. She wants the benefits, free education, etc., without putting her butt on the line like the rest of our brave military do. She and her family didn’t object to the contract or raise any issues about who signed what, birth certificates, etc., until she got her orders to Germany and Afghanistan.
We don’t need cowardly liars in our military. Boot her worthless butt out now before she gets someone killed. Who would want her watching their back? Not I.
Agree 100%. I really have little respect or concern for anybody who enlists under ostammer.
I don’t get what the recruiter did that you object to. Did you and your son think the physical was a free health check-up courtesy of Uncle Sam or what? If your son had to sign enlistment papers again AFTER he passed the physical, what is your problem with the recruiter? That’s just a second chance for the recruit to change his mind/opt out. If that step WAS NOT in there, then I’d agree there is opportunity to give the recruit the bum’s rush/Shanghai treatment. But with a second signing, anyone who signs but doesn’t want to enlist is probably too stupid to serve anyway.
Has it occurred to you that when the recruiter tells the potential recruit that if he passes the physical, he’s in, he means that that is the only major hurdle to being accepted, given that it’s assumable that the potential recruit wants to be accepted since he’s there in the first place hoping to get in?
Maybe your brother just didn’t understand that he would have to cut the mustard to get into Annapolis to get the degree. Annapolis IS the Navy college, and they do indeed give degrees - very highly sought, prestigious and hard to get degrees, unlike the local state college, lol. I don’t think the recruiter said, “Hey, yeah, just grab a few books, then go open this box of Crackerjacks and you’ll find your degree inside.”
