Posted on 07/26/2009 8:40:17 AM PDT by Zakeet
Here are some stats and maps regarding the unusually cold July that is happening over a large portion of the U.S., especially the Northeast quadrant (yes, it's been unusually hot in the SW, see below). Note: Since I am on vacation at the end of the month, I will not be able to update these but AccuWeather.com will be running news articles about how cool July was in these areas, come the first week in August.
First, some stats. 1,044 daily record low temperatures have been broken this month nationwide according to NCDC -- count record "low highs" and the number increases to 2,925, surely to pass 3,000 before the end of the month. Some thoughts on the 'low highs" below.*
The period of July 17-20 was the worst, with over 1,600 stations breaking records. It's worth noting that these stats include all records across the nation. Of the record lows, through July 20th (thanks to William Schmitz @ SERCC, check out their Twitter Feed), this was the regional breakdown:
Southeast (AL/GA/FL/NC/SC/VA): 248
Northeast (MD/DE/PA/NJ/NY/CT/RI/MA/NH/VT/ME): 193
Even if you zoom out to the U.S. you'll see the majority of stations are reporting departures below normal thus far -- only Arizona, New Mexico and Texas have all stations reporting above normal.

Global Cooling, caused by Global Warming, is now becoming a major problem
Darn that man-caused global warming.
Darn it to heck!
I’m so tired of cold weather. We don’t have bees or butterflies or any insects. Can’t get my veggies to grow.
Clear, unambiguous and irrefutable proof beyond a shadow of a doubt of ... Global Warming!
Also, when he have 1600 records high temperatures in July, that’s also proof of ... Global Warming!
We are on a critical stage drought alert that restricts our water use. Animals and vegetation are dying at a rapid pace.
But...Global Warming is not the reason, it's because we haven't had any rain!!!
It's hot down here I'm tellin ya!
And God sent Global Cooling just to have a little fun with the Communists.
In in SF Bay Area...last year thousands of bees on my Salvia on the patio...this year 3 or 4 listless bees. Hummers are back in force, though, so might be bee mites. No fireflies in June when I visited my Mom in SE Pennsylvania.
Proof of Global Stupidity. Anybody who believes Carbon Dioxide will create Global Warming is a blithering ignoramous and a Moonbat.
The next GW PR campaign:
“If you believe your own eyes, polar bears will die!”
We hardly ever need even a fan. It is cold in Michigan (Indiana 13 miles south of here).
Why does map one have “redistribution prohibited” printed at the bottom?
Al Gore...Calling Al Gore! Your office on the phone and they seem in a panic. Al Gore , please.
SE Michigan here......ran the A/C for a few hours only one day so far this “summer”, LOL
I do not believe it will have ANY effect whatsoever. It is a hoax and an International Socialist One World Plot. Where do you think all the Communists have gone??? Do you think they just dissappeared. Wake up man. The Greens are the Communists. It is all about taking down the USA and the Constitution.
69 degrees here outside Jackson. Perfect weather for building the new porch/greenhouse. (I’m taking a break, git off my back)
The Goreon’s cash register just died.
What’s the record for records?
I think one of those missing “days over 85” got sent to Wasilla by mistake. We had a 92.5 on July 5. Broke all records by about 10 degrees, I believe. We’re sorry we used it all up. There just wasn’t anything left of it after everybody soaked it up on the beaches, on boats, and sundecks. We’re sorry. We promise we’ll try not to be so selfish with it next (??) time.
By this time last year we had Dolly.
Things a little slow this Hurricane season.
Yeah, I expected something by now.
I traveled to New Orleans in September 2005 after Katrina with a FEMA affiliated church group to work in the evacuee centers west of the city. That year was a doozy. Al Gore attended a national conference of property insurers where he advised them to expect an annual increase in the intensity of storms and to adjust their rate tables accordingly. That goof Bobby Kennedy Jr. was blaming Bush directly for Katrina.
My brother in Florida told me that statistically we shouldn't get any hurricanes in 2006 since 2005 was so active. As it turned out, we had hurricanes in 2006 but none made landfall in the U.S. So her was right.
Never mind green jobs - I need to go for a drive, today.
No wonder I didn’t see this when i searched, wrong title. (I used the corect title). Sorry.
I searched under “records” and it came right up.
That graph showed the number of days over 85 degrees this July — and I’ll guarantee you, it ain’t that way in Oklahoma... LOL...
hmmm, I searched on 3,000, lol, no big deal, AGW is one of my pet peeves, been following things closely for many years.
3rd year I’ve haven’t had to put in the window A/C.
DTE is very upset right now!!!
Texas is paying the price for all the coolness you’re enjoying in the East. We’ve set more record highs down here than I can recall - and the associated drought is one of the worst in recorded history. The persistent ridge/trough pattern is more winterlike than mid-summer. Let’s hope it changes soon as the water situation is reaching critical levels for many areas.
Wow, just passing ‘cap and trade’ in the House fixed man-made global warming!
That is why you are Admin Moderator and I am just jpsb. lol. Thank you for all the hard work you do. Much appreciated.
I remember summer 1979ish, 90 straight days of over 90 and 30 something days of over 100. Yes this summer is hot, but I’ve seen hotter. But you are right about the drought, this is the worst drought I’ve seen in S.E. Texas. Almost wishing for a topical thing to bring some rain to us. Even the grass is dying! I’ve never seen that before.
The only hot air comes from Gore when he opens his mouth!
