Face-lifts, tummy tucks and hair transplants could be hit with a new tax to help finance the trillion-dollar healthcare overhaul plan, CONGRESS DAILY reports.
The Senate Finance Committee has discussed imposing a 10% excise tax on cosmetic surgery deemed unnecessary for medical purposes.
DAILY's Peter Cohn reveals: The idea was broached in a meeting with OMB Director Orszag in mid-July, after which Senate Finance Chairman Max Baucus told reporters he had heard some "interesting," "creative," and "kind of fun" ideas.

Typical liberal idiocy. Long time ago, the dimrats passed a luxury tax on big boats, jewelry and other high end items. All this did was screw the businesses that build these high end items and put people out of work. This piece of crap will put cosmetic doctors/nurses out of work. Funny thing, they probably are hard core dimrats. How’s the hopey changey thing working for you?

This story is funny, but let me try to make a serious point. Cosmetic surgery is typically not covered by health insurance. People pay for it with their own after-tax income. Why should it be singled out for a tax?
The rich will just take a vacation and go off shore for these procedures. Just one more way to hurt US businesses.

The reason there are so many crooks in both parties is because they have been there TOO LONG. They can't help but put their hands in the cookie jar when it is so easy and they are watching MILLIONAIRES/BILLIONAIRES who make it ON THEIR OWN. They are jealous and think they DESERVE SOME OF IT. I am certain that whatever health care plan members of Congress have such “unnecessary” health care procedures will be fully covered. I pity those with birth defects, burns or even breast cancer who would be denied reconstructive surgery under Obamacare.
