Report: Palin “testing the waters” for a radio deal
Hot Air ^ | July 28, 2009 | Allahpundit

What’s to “test”? She’ll draw the entire conservative base and a goodly chunk of the left as they tune in to channel the hate. Pay her whatever she wants and sign the deal. Alaska’s now former Governor is coy about her future political plans, but radio is at least one option she’s leaving on the table. While not exactly shopping the GOP’s 2008 vice presidential candidate, sources say Palin representatives have been quietly testing the waters to see how much interest radio syndicators have for her. Sources say Palin hasn’t committed to radio either, but rather it could be a possible next step for her

I like the idea of radio commentaries as opposed to a runnning show. Reagan did such spots.

She should fill in for Rush a couple of times, just to see if she liks it.

She’ll be good on the radio, for what she has to say

Maybe the experience will train her to drop her voice an octave and be even more effective and easier on the ears

I agree - with hours of talking to troll through, the slimes of the Democrat party would use her own words, out of context, to kill her chances of election. Michael Moore needs work and we all know what an “editor” he is.

She should be in demand for EVERY conservstive organization and she should go right into grassroots organizing for 2010

Only if you think her appeal is purely visual rather than intellectual.

Rush had the right of it, after a radio program people talk about the ideas you presented - after a TV program people talk about how you looked and what you wore.

If she wants to show her intellectual metal, then radio is it. It is positively Reaganesque.

"commentaries, fill-ins, but no show. that would be a career killer."

Since MN elected Stuart Smalley as a US Senator, I would say nothing seems to be a career killer anymore. Having said that, daytime talk radio is already a very crowded place. I'm not sure what time-slot she'd fill. Would she go head-to-head with Limbaugh or Hannity? And, morning talk just doesn't seem to have the market that afternoon talk does.

Lastly, there's the "voice" thing. Many people just find her voice irritating. The tenor, timbre and quality of one's speaking voice is paramount in radio, not as much in television. I can see her being successful for short periods of time - small doses. But, I'm not sure if she'd keep a big enough audience over a three hour program.

Huckabee is doing those spots too, daily on about 300 radio stations.

I don't agree with that or a radio show for Palin.

Too structured for her at this time, she doesn't need that.

She needs to speak to people in person.

Like she is doing early next month at the Reagan Library.

I don't think she will have any problem setting up other speaking engagements.

Those that set programing would probably put her up against Rush, which would be counter productive.

Her best contribution would be in pseaking engagements and TV appearances.

She needs the freedom now to travel and stump for good candidates, and discuss issues.

Having a radio show would just tie her down unnecessarily.

We need her out and about.

If she raises money for good House and Senate candidates, she will not only help America, but she will build an army of political allies.

She is also needed to help set the table on the issues for the 2010 elections.

Because if we lose more ground in 2010, America is finished, and America will have its first king.

I think that's a great idea. Commentaries will let her get her ideas out and not tie her down to a fixed schedule. A regular live show will open her every word up to scrutiny by the gaffe police. She'd be ten times more accurate than your average MSNBC host but she'd receive a hundred times more scrutiny.

A five minute Sara Segment would be a welcome addition to one of the three hour programs like Hanity or Rush, which can get a little repetitive.

I don’t think a radio show for Palin is a good idea if she ever want to run for president. It could sink her chances if she doesn’t do well on radio

Obama is popular with the democrats, but he will sucks badly on radio.

If it is true, I am going to have to caution Gov Palin here. Broadcasting is not about being an ideologue. It requires a set of skills of its own. Just because you are an ideologue and popular with people doesn't necessarily mean you are going to succeed in radio. Rush is enormously successful because, above all, he is a highly trained broadcast specialist. If Rush did nothing for three hours every day except verbosely describe paint drying, people would still listen to him and he would still pull in ad revenue.

Radio talk show host is a very hard job. The pros make it look easy because they have decades of experience. Unless she is well rehearsed and polished this could be a disaster.

She would be better off doing commentary like Ann Coulter. Short snips interacting with a host. She would make a lot of headlines this way without becoming over exposed.

Listening to radio can cause the loss of ability to capitalize and punctuate.

In the extreme it can cause you to write like a moron.

Palin would be fine for radio....if a a whiny, nasal-voiced Mark Levin can be successful on radio, Sarah has no problem in that regard.

She would be fine in the 9-12 AM eastern slot. Glenn Beck owns that hour...but Sarah could easily gain enough audience to be successful at that time.

"If Rush did nothing for three hours every day except verbosely describe paint drying, people would still listen to him and he would still pull in ad revenue."

Very true. Rush does make it look incredibly easy. You can get a sense how difficult it really is when Limbaugh has a guest host from time to time. Mark Steyn, who's a brilliant guy, sometimes struggles getting to breaks, or handling rambling callers. No one can deliver a monologue like Limbaugh, perhaps in the history of radio.

Could be good, one way or another she needs to be in the public eye, so to speak, on a daily basis. Radio can be done from anywhere, which would probably simplify her life right now, vs having to relocate or commute to the lower 48.

Of course she’d be fabulous. She’s the new “Great Communicator” after all...

Let me get this straight. Some people think Sarah should “fill in” for Rush to see how she likes the radio game? So you’re suggesting Rush provide on-the-air-training for maybe his greatest competition?

How stupid do you think Rush is? Rush may be the greatest present day living conservative but first he is a businessman.

That some suggest this only shows how utterly blind, and IMO wreckless, some people can be.

BTW - If Palin goes to radio it is a signal that she will never, and I mean NEVER go back into politics.

Also, for those of you who are incapable of reading the tea leaves, Sarah is going for the gold. She has capitulated in being the savior of the conservative movement but will gladly accept being thinly portrayed as such for a significant fee or honorarium.

I don’t blame her, I would as well. But those of you who are messiah inclined...I’d keep your boots on. Sarah will become a significant mouth piece for conservative ideals but will make little impact outside conservative circles.

Much like Rush.

Palin has history as a TV sports reporter along with a degree in Journalism. If she were to have a good producer and call screener she’d do well. At the risk of being flamed I’d suggest she do this with the Townhall crew. They’re less confrontational and more interested in generating discussion than the Seans and Mark Levins. I’d break her in as a sub for Bennett like Steele and Rick Santorum do.

I think once she has set the table she can then discuss
on the radio the issues for the 2010 election. The show
could just be an hour...I don’t see that tieing her down...
